Chapter 671 What's Wrong?
Damien had a glowing expression as he was about to kiss his wives, but suddenly he felt a disturbance across the barrier, making him turn his face to the side.
Lily, Reva, and Yuria also noticed it as they looked up to see the Lancaster Emperor slowly descending from the air with a amiable smile.
Everyone was surprised by his sudden arrival even though they had been expecting him. But it was just that he was late as the wedding was almost over.
"I am sorry for being so rude, but I got held up with some important matters in the central lands, as we all know. Oh…I guess I am too late…" The Lancaster Emperor chuckled awkwardly as he looked around.
Elor and the others immediately stood up to greet him, "It is all good, Emperor Lancaster. We know how busy a man you are. We are already glad that you graced us with your presence."
"Hoho, Emperor Lancaster, you missed quite some lovely moments, but it is indeed quite a good thing to see you, old friend," Marvin said with a nostalgic smile as he stepped forward to greet him.
Everyone could see that the Rong Ancestor and Emperor Lancaster were old buddies, meeting each other after a long time. Since the Rong Ancestor was sick for all these years, it wasn't a surprise they never talked to each other for so long.
"Ah, Marvin, it only feels like yesterday, but you have really changed so much. I am sorry I didn't visit you. I thought you wouldn't want to see me after what happened," Emperor Lancaster said in an apologetic voice.
Marvin, who was feeling very happy after seeing Lily get married, was in a good mood as he shook his head and said, "You had an empire to look after, and I understand that your hands were tied," Marvin reassured as he placed his hand on Emperor Lancaster's shoulder.
"Damien…what's wrong?" Reva asked with a narrowed gaze as she looked at Damien's blank expression.
Lily was feeling happy that the Lancaster Emperor showed since this meant that he was really willing to give support to the Forsaken. But the moment she felt strange unrest in Damien's aura due to the connection she had with him, her eyes flickered in confusion as Reva asked Damien.
Yuria's brows raised as she looked ahead before looking at Damien.
When the Lancaster Emperor first showed up, he wasn't surprised to see him coming on his own since, after settling down on this island, Irene and Elor reconfigured the formation circles around the island.
They made it so that any Forsaken member with a 'key' to access the formation circle could come and go out of the island. This also meant that they could just hand over a key to a trusted outsider like Leon or the Lancaster Emperor since he wanted to visit.
Damien was also about to welcome the Lancaster Emperor when he suddenly sensed something. He thought that maybe it was just his mind playing tricks, but the longer he looked at him, the more he felt it.
He didn't want to believe it, nor could he come to believe it. He just didn't know what to do or how to react.
But he suddenly saw the Lancaster Emperor turn his gaze towards him and smile in a very unsettling way.
'No…'
Marvin was happily talking about the wedding when his expression suddenly froze, "Ugh…"
*Sspkk…* The sound of flesh being twisted subtly echoed in front of Marvin as he looked down with shock and confusion.
A blade was lodged into his chest, and the hand that was holding the blade belonged to the Lancaster Emperor.
Everything just happened too fast as a deathly silence descended on the area.
Within a split second, Damien's eyes began to turn jet-black as streaks of jet-black lightning started to dance around his body.
*BOOM!*
He left behind a thunderous shockwave as time began to slow down for him…everyone standing around him as if they were statues…their expressions frozen in shock and confusion.
Only the sound of his own lightning was echoing beside his ears as he gnashed his teeth in anger, 'No…no…how could I have let this happen…' Damien felt something in his chest twisting together as he saw Marvin stumbling back.
Damien could feel his blood flow to the extremities as he clenched his hands into a fist to deal the most powerful blow he could at the Lancaster Emperor while saving Marvin.
But before he could even reach him, the Lancaster Emperor suddenly kicked Marvin's chest, and his body was sent flying backward.
Damien's eyes widened as he suddenly flashed towards the side and caught Marvin's body, though his feet were dragged back through the ground by a few meters.
Time began to flow normally for Damien as he came to a stop with Marvin lying in his arms.
"Emperor Lancaster, what is the meaning of this!!" Elor roared as everyone else quickly surrounded the Lancaster Emperor, who was still smiling with a bloodied blade in his hand.
"Grandpa!!" Lily's devastated cry resounded from behind as she immediately jumped down from the stage and rushed towards her ancestor.
Damien silently and gently placed Marvin onto Lily's lap as he tried to figure out the best way to heal Marvin.
"He's a dead man. There is no pill or nothing you can do to heal a ruptured ethereal core," Luna said with a sigh while Kalypso watched with her head drooped, not knowing how to help her Master.
"You think I don't know that? But I can't just give up…He is Lily's…" Damien felt like punching himself out of guilt for not being able to save him earlier.
"Grandpa…Here, s-swallow this pill," Lily said with a fragile voice as she tried to place a white pill on Marvin's mouth.
Damien immediately stopped her as he said in a slackened tone, "Don't do that. His ethereal core will burst if you feed him a pill."
