Chapter 45: Chapter 45 – The Past

The next few days Feng rested all day in the room, all because lady Hiliana’s doctors suggested doing so. It was boring and, truth to be honest, quite stifling.

She rolled over in bed holding the book in her right hand. “How do people stay inside all the time? Its so boring,” she mumbled, turning the page over. It was the same book about manifesting. She had read it over ten times, yet the book got complicated each time she read through it. “And why is this so complicated? Its just magic, you go swoosh and things appear,”

“That’s not how magic works,” a small voice whispered from behind.

She glanced back to see Ethan holding small book in hand. Feng sat up immediately. ‘This kid is talking an interest in magic!! Wow, I’ve achieved something great,’ calming herself she continued. “How does it work then?”

“All these elements are in our body and in the environment is magic. We as mages pull this magic element into our body and manifest it with the help of spells.” Ethan whispered. Noticing Feng’s sparkling eyes, he slightly felt proud.

“Tell me more,” Feng urged him to go on.

“It’s just like drinking water. You take it in your body and use it to purify the blood and it comes out of us as a waste. Magic is just like that. We take it in a form the environment and use it to purify to strengthen our spell, after which we let go of it.” Ethan mumbled softly. “Let me show you,”

.....

He held out his palm and suddenly small blue lights started flickering there. They were minuscule, almost looked similar to those luminescent bacteria in some beach Feng had seen in social media. “Wow.” Feng moved closer and touched one of it.

Ethan moved his hand back immediately. “You really shouldn’t touch the energy that doesn’t match you. It will damage your core.” He urgently whispered.

“Oh, sorry,” Feng sat back with an awkward laugh. “Got carried away.”

“It’s okay. Wait, I’ll show you how to refine it.” Ethan moved his fingers around and the little light particle merged into his skin. “Now my hand is more powerful than my body.” He softly mumbled something, and a small tornado appeared in his palm.

“Cool!!” Feng really wanted to touch it, but she learnt from her past mistake. She curiously watched as the wind go round and round and round. “Wait, Ethan, how do you even know magic spells?” she whispered with a frown.

Ethan’s heart thudded loudly. {‘Shit, I messed up.’}

{‘What did you do?’} Aiden’s soft voice came from the restroom.

{‘I showed Feng a spell,’} Ethan said while he stared intently at Feng. {‘help’}

{‘Okay okay, just act pitiful when I tell you to,’} Aiden came out of the bathroom and rushed to Feng. “Feng, Feng, do you want to see my spell to?”

“You can use spell as well? How?” Feng pinched his slightly damp cheeks.

Both the twin’s heads drooped slightly.

Feng panicked a little. ‘Did I say something wrong?’

Aiden glanced up and whispered, “we....we have seen our parents use it once. It.... was nice,” he mumbled.

‘Parents!! They remember their parents. Wait, they said that I should treat them as orphans. Doesn’t that mean...?!’ Feng suddenly sat up straight. “Did you parent bully you! How could they raise their hands against such cute children!” she shouted.

Both Ethan and Aiden did not expect this. {‘hey, what the hell? This world’s parents are not like that. Don’t tarnish their name in front of Feng. You can blame our stupid fucking brother if you want.’} Ethan’s small hand clenched tightly.

{‘Yeah that fucking spineless bastard sold us off to a slave trader,’} Aiden said with a murderous smile. But he quickly hid this look and glanced up at Feng. “It... was not our parents... our... brother... he.. he,”

“Oh, baby, you don’t have to say anything.” Feng hugged him tight.

Ethan walked over to her. “Our parents were very kind but our brother..... He did not like us.” he mumbled.

Even when he was talking about it, his hands started trembling a little. This was the actual truth. When they got born into this world the first time, they both were overjoyed to have a second chance in life.

But that chance was not as they had expected. The first four years of their birth their parents were very happy and started the well. Even their step brother from another mother treated them well.

But when his father passed away, that was when true hell arose.

Their mother was an influential lady with a powerful family, but their elder brother Robin did not like this. One day he secretly poisoned their mother.

The kind lady died without even knowing this.

But Ethan came to know of this by accident.

One day they were playing hide and seek with his brother and he was hiding in robin’s closet.

How that man who claimed to be their brother was boasting to his friend how he killed his stepmother and he would do the same to his runt like brothers.

Ethan ran to Aiden and let him know of this.

Both started to be wary of robin. But he got to know. One night he secretly handed added sleeping pills to their food. When they did not die, he got annoyed.

“Sell them if you want! Get rid of them! I don’t want anyone else sharing a claim to my throne,” Ethan, who was slightly awake, heard all of it.

And after that their life turned to a living hell.
