Chapter 43: Chapter 43 – Adoption

Feng knocked on the opened door gently and poked her head inside. “May I come in?”

“Come in come in,”

Lady Hiliana waved at her and gestured for her to take a seat next to her. She seemed to be reading through a document with keen interest.

“Did I come at a wrong time? I can always come back.”

“No, silly girl. These documents can wait. Now tell me how are you feeling? Do you feel good? Is anything hurting? Sorry I was not able to come to you. I just had .....” she tiredly gestured to the piles of document in front of her.

“No worries, I am good, actually. Um... Alvin said that you wanted to talk to me about something?” Feng awkwardly mumbled. It might have been a silly joke from the kid, but she really wanted to know if it was true.

Lady Hiliana removed her spectacles and smirked at her. “That kid really can’t hide it for long. He must have been exited,” she chuckled and leaned down towards the drawer of her study table. “Wait a minute, where is it? Ah, here it is.” she pulled out a small document and handed it to her.

.....

Feng took it with hesitant hand and opened it. The topic read, ‘formal adoption form.’ She confusedly glanced up. “I am getting adopted..... lady Hiliana it is an honour that you are doing so much for me but..”

“Read though it fully, little girl,” the old lady softly flicked her forehead.

Feng followed her request. The firm was actually an adoption form, but it was saying that lady Hiliana of the house was formally adopting her.

Her hands started to tremble a bit. ‘What is this? She is going to adopt me? That’s too kind of her.’ her lips rose in a small smile but thinking about the twins her smile disappeared. “I am happy that you are willing to take me as your family lady Hiliana but..... I don’t think I want this.”

The old lady looked stunned. Her smiling face turned sad, making the wrinkles near her eyes more prominent. “If I may ask, why? Did... did we treat you badly? I assure you the first maid was a big mistake of mine and I really shouldn’t have let you stay in our drawing room and.....”

“That’s not it. You have been anything but kind to us lady Hiliana. You are the best person I’ve ever met. But.... but I can’t leave the twins alone. You see, we have gone through difficulties together. And the kids they can’t be without me.” Feng smiled a little. But her eyes teared up a bit.

The old lady chuckled all of a sudden. “Oh silly me, I forgot to tell you that I asked the boys of their opinion. They rejected me.”

“What! Why?” Feng whispered to herself. From their behaviour she knew that the boys actually liked lady Hiliana but why did they reject her offer. “I’m sorry they were rude to you. I don’t think they meant it in a bad way. They are just kids, you see. Please don’t take it badly.”

The old lady smiled widely. “No, in fact, I admire them. I admire you all. The relationship you three have is deep and profound. I have not seen it in a long time,”

She fondly caressed her face. “Feng dear, even if I don’t adopt them, they are still my ward. I wild treat them very well. As for your choice it’s better to talk to them once before you give me your final answer.”

Feng nodded. ‘I will definitely talk to them alright. The kids probably don’t trust people that easily but I’ll make them see that lady Hiliana is genuine,’ she thought with renewed passion.

“Then I’ll let you know of my decision later, lady Hiliana.” Feng ran to the door and glanced back at her slightly hunched form. “Please take a rest.”

The old lady glanced up and smiled at her dazzlingly. “I will, my dear. I will,”

Feng happily ran back to their room and pulled the covers down. “Both of you, don’t you have something to say to me?”

Ethan groaned with a frown on his face, while Aiden just smiled like a sweetie.

“What is it, Feng?” Aiden sat up and glanced at her expectantly.

“I am talking about the adoption.” she glanced at them both sternly. “I know you both don’t trust anyone much, but you guys have to let go and believe me this once. Lady Hiliana does not have any bad motives, nor does she want to hurt us in any way. I think she is just a kind old lady,”

Ethan yawned and sat up. “We know that,”

“So.” Feng gestured for him to continue.

Aiden jumped off the bed and hugged her waist. “It’s because...”

Ethan seriously looked at her. “It’s because.....”

“We want to be your men,” both said at the same time

“Huh!” Feng blinked at them. “You are boys though.”

Ethan grumbled and got jumped down from the bed with his short cute legs. “We are men,” he said with a frown.

“I see two little boys who have not even grown past my knees.” Feng glanced at them with her eyes narrowed. “So you rejected a chance to have a family for being my man?”

“Yeah,” Aiden cheerfully looked at her. “We can’t be your man if we have the same surname, right? Then we will be called siblings.”

“Yes, the correct term is incest. Don’t want that,” Ethan said sternly.

Feng Mei intently glanced at the two. Their eyes were steady as hell. ‘What... they are telling the truth. I know that kids always declare that they would marry their parents and so on, but doesn’t it seem more serious than usual?,’

The kids let go of her and started arranging the bed sheets. They stood on their tippy toes to arrange the bed. “Cute,” she whispered with a small smile. ‘I might be just imagining things.’ She shook her head at her crazy thoughts and ran to them both and helped set the bed.
