Chapter 6: Escaping the spiderweb (2)

[Everyone and everything in this world has magic, including you, host. The stronger the magic is, the stronger it will get. Sadly enough, you are not strong enough to use magic as a host.]

"I see, so when will I be able to use this magic thing?" Ben asked with a little disappointment in his voice.

[The answer is the same as your first question. Through evolution. As I said earlier, every being has magic, and the more magic they get, the stronger they will become. Being stronger is one of the instincts of all living beings.

[Think of it this way: your body is a vessel, and magic is like water, so you can store a certain amount of water in the vessel. But the question is, Just how much water can a small vessel hold? ]

[Just as your vessel gets stronger, the more water it can store inside it. But there will come a time when the vessel can't get any stronger; in that case, we need to increase the shape of the vessel, adding more material to it. ]

[The same is true of evolution. You can get stronger by leveling up, but there is always a limit. To surpass this limit, you need to go beyond your body's restraints by modifying your DNA and evolving into something new.]

"That makes sense." Ben rubs his chin with tiny mosquito hands and asks, "But isn't there a loophole? What if I keep leveling up without choosing to evolve?"

[In that case, host, your strength will exceed your capacity, and your body will crumble into shreds like a meat bomb.]

"Oops, bad idea." Ben gulped, imagining his cute little mosquito body blasting into meat shreds like a popper at a party. With a swift movement of his hands, he closed the notification screen and looked at the world around him.

The soft wind, the humming sound, and the fresh air It was such a peaceful place that he was feeling dazed. Tired from the mental suffering in the null void, his eyelids were growing heavier and heavier with each passing second. If that wasn't enough, then the system's explanation about magic put him in more sleazy mode.

Ben wanted to test out his new two skills after reading the skill description, but a sudden drowsiness occupied his body. His legs stumbled; he tried to walk, but it was as if he couldn't lift the weight of his body.

He found himself sinking into the soft grass, surrendering to the exhaustion that had consumed him. As he lay there, his mind began to drift into a hazy state, the world around him becoming a blur of colors and sounds. The tranquil air seemed to whisper lullabies, coaxing him into a deep slumber he couldn't resist.

"""Buzz"""

"""Buzz"""

Just when Ben was about to drop into sleep, a faint buzzing sounded in his mind. It had been a long time since Ben could sleep; he didn't want to exit out of this comfortable zone, but the annoying buzz continued to intensify.

Ben's drowsiness slowly started to fade away with that annoying vibrating sound. Annoyingly, he slowly lifted his heavy eyelids to see before him. It was a red holographic screen projecting a notification, but it was too blurry for him to read.

Internally cursing this annoying alarm sound, Ben squinted his eyes to look at the status screen, and what he saw there was enough to make his sleep gone for a week.

[EMERGENCY ALERT]

─» You are in danger!!

[EMERGENCY ALERT]

─» You are in danger!!

Ben's eyebrows frowned looking at the screen, and he instantly knocked to consciousness. With a sudden push of his legs, he tried to stand up, but he felt something stopping him from regaining his position.

"What the.." Ben frowned at the absurd situation. There were very few green threads attached to his legs and a few with his wings, stopping him from moving. As if this shock wasn't enough, the next thing he saw excited the level of creepiness he ever witnessed in his eyes.

A notification popped before his eyes. Ben looked at the scene before him. It wasn't the tree near where he slept; it was a completely different place, hanging in the air. Ben was stuck in a massive web of spiders.

In this mass web range, he wasn't alone; surrounding him were more than hundreds of insect bodies. Fly's, mosquitoes, or bees' bodies hung in the air, half-eaten, slowly rotting away by the green thread of webs.

Realization hit Ben; he was stuck in the graveyard of predators, where his life could be claimed by any being at any moment. He was probably even alive because the spider decided to save him for dinner.

"Gulp."

Ben's heart raced as the realization hit him: he was ensnared in a spider's web. Panic surged through his tiny mosquito body as he frantically struggled to free himself. His wings buzzed in desperation, but one of them was ensnared in the sticky green web, rendering it immobile.

"Just when did I get caught in this web? Fu*k me sideways!" Ben cursed internally, mustering all his strength to break free. However, the resilient green web held fast to his body.

[I am guessing that your sudden sleepiness was somehow related to the spider's abilities. This is probably how it traps and hunts its prey; call yourself lucky to be alive till now.]

Ben was shocked; this world was no longer the peaceful 20th-century earth; he was in a forest, a forest full of mystical creatures where being strong was the only way to live. The hundreds of hanging corpses before him were just proof of how ugly this world could get.

Beads of sweat formed on his tiny mosquito body as he struggled against impending danger. The condition he was in, coupled with the thought of facing a mutant spider, sent shivers down his spine.
