The king's face was not looking very good. He looked at Ishtar, who was staring right back at him, showing him no respect at all, and then at Angelica, whose expression was very cold and was at a loss for words. He did not dare anger the goddess. If he did, he was sure his life would be forfeit. But what he could not stand was that a lowly slave now stood above him. He had been trying to get the goddess to come and speak with him so he could gain her favor, but it seemed it was all for naught. He had wanted to make use of the girl the goddess had taken a liking to, but he never thought that the girl would actually end up taking the little girl as her daughter.
He could only grit his teeth as he lowered his head. "My apologies. I only wished to congratulate the girl on her new status."
Angelica snorted. She knew what the king truly had in mind but did not plan to expose him. "As long as you understand. Because if anything happens to my Daughter, I will destroy this entire palace."
Angelica's words were followed by a massive pressure that knocked the king out of his seat and pressed him against the floor, making it hard for him to breathe. He could not even look up to see Angelica walk away with Ishtar. Only when the door closed did the pressure disappear as he gasped for breath. His fear filled eyes could only stare at the floor.
"Your majesty!" One of the retainers quickly went over, but the king only waved him off.
"Leave me. And tell the entire palace that no one is to mistreat Angelica's new daughter, Ishtar. If they do, I will personally skin them alive. She is not to be touched, no matter what. Make this clear to the noble families." The king's entire body was shaking. He was soaked in sweat and looked a wreck, but he knew what mattered most right now was that no one got any funny ideas.
"By your command." The retainer quickly ran off to do as he was told.
After the retainer left, the king finally moved towards his throne and leaned against it. "I was stupid to think I could even try to pull tricks on a god. Luckily she did not get too mad and only gave me a warning. But that pressure. That is just…."

"I…." Ishtar did not know what to say. She was unsure of what she thought.
"I never say things I do not mean. Since you will be coming with me, then you will be my adopted daughter. I will be sure that you can grow powerful and live a fulfilling life. My Mama, my Handsome Papa, and all my family members will be with you from now on and will help you in any way they can. If you want to grow up strong or if you just want to spend your days enjoying life, you can. We will support you in every way possible. But you must first reach immortality. I will not allow my daughter to die of old age." Angelica smiled warmly at Ishtar. She wanted Ishtar to live how she wanted, but she must fix her mortality. "Then…. Mama?" Ishtar looked up at Angelica with watery eyes. They threatened to spill over at any time.
