1972 Desperate Calls

Sam walked down the stairs slowly.

He watched as the young man struggled forcefully. The guards are much stronger than him and they could have accidentally killed him if they are forceful enough, but it seems like they were told to control their strength.

He turned to look at the dean for a moment before continuing down.

The young man is in desperate state. He is shouting at the guards. Asking them to let him go.

The guards looked at the dean in askance.

The dean sighed and nodded his head. One of the guards clenched his teeth before he broke the legs of the young man. The young man didn't even scream in pain. He just tried to use his arms to climb up.

"Let me go. Let me go just once. Please let me go."

His voice is full of anger and despair.

Sam noticed his cultivation level. He is just in the Astral Plane. Not even the peak of it. He is just in the late stage. He was surprised by this. Not many people of that level are in this part of this realm. Except for the people who act as attendants and lackeys or someone that is working like the waiter Sam came across, there is practically no one this close to the academies.

When Sam arrived and halted at the spot, the guards stopped for a second.

Even the young man stopped screaming and looked at Sam who is looking at him dead in the eyes.

Sam looked at the guards and said.

"I will take it from here. He will not interrupt the tests. You can leave him alone."

The guards exchanged a glance and then looked at the dean, who didn't show any reaction. They backed down a bit.

Sam looked at the young man who had his arms and legs broken. His face is bruised. His hair is messy. He had pale skin, but his body is a bit rugged. He is built way too big, particularly his upper body is bulging with muscles.

"Please let me go. Please let me go upstairs once. I need to meet her. I need to meet jade. I need to tell her that I arrived in this realm just for her. I need to tell her that I am safe."

Sam looked at him silently.

The young man kept on pleading. But there is no change in expression on Sam's face. After a few minutes, he crouched down and touched the young man's head.

His spiritual energy spread as he activated the observation ability.

Sam examined every nook and cranny of the young man's body and the young man could feel it. He could feel Sam's energy and in turn the 'vision' penetrating to every single cell of his body.

A few thoughts flashed across his mind.

All his life there is one thing that always let him down. His talent. He has been chasing after Jade since he was a mere mortal and since then no matter what difficult situation he came across, his talent has become his obstacle.

No matter who he asked for help, they rejected because of his talent and worst part is they tried their best to stop to curry favor to Jade's father. When Sam examined his body, that is what he thought.

Another person who is repelled by his talent.

Tears streamed down his eyes and he looked at the sky.

"Why couldn't you have given me some talent. Some potential that I could use? Why?"

He asked in anger and sadness.

"Who are you talking to?"

Sam asked as he looked at the young man with amusement.

The young man had a puzzled expression on his face.

"Who are you talking to?"

Sam repeated the question.

"To the gods."

"So, have they talked to you back? At least once before?"

"No."

"Then why are you talking to them? Do you think the gods will just answer you if you cry like a baby?"

"Wha..?"

"I really don't like you that much. I might people who go after what they desire with everything they have. But I also don't like people who aim for more than what they deserve.

That woman right there has a one in a million talent. She has infinite riches and she has status that will make every guy in this realm massacre a planet just to have a shot at having her hand in the marriage.

She has every right to desire anyone in this world as her partner. But what right do you have to desire her the same way? Forget about love for a second, even if the odds have changed and you married her, do you even have means to defend your position as her husband?

You will be her weakest link.

All the guys who couldn't do anything to her until now, will have you as a hostage to do anything they want with her. You might just be the biggest loss she has to suffer in her life."

The young man gritted his teeth in unwillingness.

Tears streamed more and more.

"What do you want me to do? Kill my love for her? I prayed to every god that ever existed, but none of them showed me any pity. I tried to forget her, but these bloody gods didn't even give me that choice. I cannot forget her.

Every time she is out of my sight, I am feeling breathless. I want to cause destruction around me. I want to destroy the earth and air that is separating us. Tell me, how do I control this urge?

I tried every god, but they didn't respond and I even tried the devil but he didn't respond either. I would sell my soul and more if I can be with her. But I cannot."

"So, the gods and the devils didn't respond to you. Then I will respond to you. What are you willing to pay? What do you want and what are you going to offer in exchange?"

The streams of tears suddenly stopped. The young man was stunned. He didn't even know what to say. To the point even his despairing heart paused for a moment.

Sam looked at him with a smile and said.

We might have to change the locations for the rest of this conversation.

The next second, a glow of green light entered the young man's body and healed his broken limbs.

"Follow me, we have a lot to talk about."
