Concubine Lin eyed the Matriarch's expression and quickly pulled on her daughter's sleeves but Lu Zhenzhen roughly shrugged her mother off and stared at Lu Xuilan with a gloating expression.
Standing at the side, Fang Lan's heart ached for her daughter. She knew Lu Xuilan was just being helpful but Lu Yunyue and Lu Zhenzhen had viciously turned things around. Her hands clenched. She wanted to speak up for her daughter but Lu Xuilan turned around at that moment and gave her a reassuring smile.
Fang Lan slowly released her fists. Ever since Lu Xuilan returned from the mountain almost three weeks ago, her once reserved daughter had become much more capable -making her worry less- so she didn't step out for fear of ruining Lu Xuilan's plans.
On the dais, the Matriarch's chest heaved slightly as she asked, "Lu Xuilan, what is the meaning of this?"
Lu Xuilan sneered inwardly. She was doing the old lady a favour but the senile woman could not differentiate filth from treasure.
Her eyes trailed to Lu Yunyue only to find the girl in question smiling calmly at her. She scoffed. How could she let herself be bested by a bunch of little girls?
Knowing what kind of person the Matriach was, she simply looked down at the items in her hands and sighed regretfully. "I had gotten these things from a wandering master in the mountains.
-Not to mention people in the countryside, I'm afraid no one in the Imperial family has ever set eyes these treasures. Grandmother is a woman above women and I thought only she deserves such unique things but since Eldest sister thinks they're dangerous...
-I would hand them over to my mother." She curtseyed. "Forgive my ignorance Grandmother." And then she turned around to walk over to Fang Lan.
Watching Lu Xuilan march confidently to Fang Lan with those unique gifts, the Matriarch felt uncomfortable on her chair. Items that even members of the Imperial family had never seen before... How precious they would be!
She would be the only one in the Capital... no. Lu Xuilan had said a wandering master so it was possible that she would be the only one in all of Xiangshan to own such precious items!
When Lu Xuilan was just three feet away from Fang Lan,
"Wait... Bring those items over."
Lu Zhenzhen's eyes widened. "Grandmother!" The Matriarch gave her a fierce glare and she quickly shut her mouth with a large gulp of air.
Behind the Matriarch, Lu Yunyue also had a look of surprise on her face but she maintained her composure. The Lu Matriarch's greed was known to all afterall. In fact... this might not necessarily be a bad situation.
If the Matriarch got ill from injesting that weird tea then Lu Xuilan's position in the Lu household would only fall lower and lower. At that thought, Lu Yunyue lowered her head with a smile and focused on gently rubbing the Matriarch's neck.
Lu Xuilan slowly turned around and walked over to the Matriarch. "Grandmother."
The Lu Matriarch cleared her throat. "Those things... What are they called?"
Lu Xuilan smiled. "In the cup is soothing tea. It relaxes one's muscles and reduces blood pressure. As for this..." She shook the neck massager in her other hand. "It's a neck massager for massaging one's neck."
The Matriarch raised her brows and other people looked at the U shaped object in Lu Xuilan's hand. It was white and smooth and with no knowledge of what it was made of, a person could easily think it was made of jade.
Lu Peng could not hold himself back from asking, "Such a thing could massage a person's neck?" He couldn't be blamed. If a person should lay on a jade bed, his body would hurt for days talk less of using that thing against the neck.
That was akin to suicide.
Lu Xuilan smiled modestly. "If Grandmother permits, I can show how it's used."
After thinking for several seconds, curiosity got the best of the Matriarch and she cleared her throat again, "Yunyue, move aside."
Lu Yunyue grit her teeth inwardly before withdrawing her hands from the Matriarch's neck and walking away to stand beside her mother.
Lu Xuilan took that as a 'Yes' so she set the cup of tea on the table and gracefully climbed the stairs of the dais to fit the neck massager around the Matriarch's neck. Next, she flipped on the switch.
"Ah!"
The eyes of every person in the hall widened. "Mother! Matriarch! Grandmother!"
To their surprise, the Matriarch closed her eyes in comfort after that one scream of surprise. The strange device let out a soft humming sound as it vibrated on her neck and gently beat the taut muscles loose. It felt so good...
Seeing the orgasmic smile on the Matriarch's face, Lu Xuilan rolled her eyes inwardly and obediently stood to the side.
After three whole minutes, the Matriarch finally remembered where she was and opened her eyes with a soft cough. Seeing as everyone watched her in curiosity whilst she enjoyed the comfort of the unique device, she felt happy in her heart and even gave Lu Xuilan a smile of acknowledgement.
Seeing this, Lu Yunyue exchanged a glance with her mother and they both grit their teeth. Lu Zhenzhen's face wasn't that much better too whilst a smile tugged at the corners of Fang Lan's lips. She knew she could trust her Xuilan!
Her daughter who had known nothing of the world was suddenly so capable. She felt the urge to cry. Children grew up so fast didn't they?
On the other hand, the Matriarch's head servant, Mama Gu, decided to probe on behalf of everyone, "Mistress, how... how do you feel?"
The Matriarch looked to the side with a reserved smile. Even if she was very impressed by the device, she had to maintain her image -especially after that scream earlier so she simply said, "Not bad."
And then her eyes trailed to the cup of tea on the table and the two large packets beside it. Since the neck massager worked so well... Did that not mean the tea was legit too?
Although she thought this, she wouldn't be so stupid as to casually consume anything so she gave Mama Gu a pointed look.
The head servant immediately got the message. The second her mistress had called Lu Xuilan back, she'd sent off a lower ranked servant to get the Lu family physician so she simply turned to one of the lower ranked maids standing in a line at the side. "You. Drink the tea."
The girl who was suddenly pointed froze and stared at the jade cup in mistrust. She was very unwilling. She only just got promoted a while ago and now she had to lay down her life for the whims of the Second miss. Why? Why was life so unfair?
Mama Gu stared at the unshed tears in the girl's eyes and sneered viciously. "What's that expression for? You dare to disdain tea that had been personally prepared by the Second young miss?!"
The servant's eyes widened and she waved her hands rapidly. "N-No! No. This servant is very grateful for this opportunity." And then she walked forward to pick up the tea. Inwardly though, she was cursing all generations of Mama Gu's family.
If it was such an honour to drink the tea, why didn't the old hag drink it herself?!
Lu Xuilan watched in amusement as the servant trembled for several seconds before closing her eyes and shakily lifting her hands to take a sip of the lukewarm tea.

'...'
Everyone watched the servant girl with bated breaths for several seconds before Mama Gu mustered up the courage to ask, "You... How do you feel?"
The servant finally peeked one eye open. She'd been expecting to meet her ancestors but now that she thought about it, she felt a little relaxed and the tea... The tea tasted quite good!
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, she took another sip... And another... And yet another... Until all the tea was gone.
Before the Matriarch could express her impatience, the Lu family physician finally arrived. He calmly walked to the front of the hall and nodded respectfully. "Matriarch Lu."
The Matriarch impatiently waved at him. She was more interested in the effects of the tea so she nudged her head in the direction of the test subject. "Quick, check her."
Actually, it would've been fine if she'd just had the physician check the tea for poisonous content from the start but to her, having another human being test it was much more reassuring.
The physician walked over to check the pulse of the servant girl and after a while, he frowned in confusion. Was something supposed to be wrong with her? He checked again and this time felt a little nervous. Was it his skills that were lacking? He eyed the servant. "How do you feel?"
The servant girl smiled. "This servant feels wonderful!"
The physician nodded and turned to the Matriarch. "What she said is right. I did not detect any hint of sickness. Rather, her body is very relaxed and her organs are functioning at peak state."
Uneasiness crept into the bones of Lu Yunyue and Bai Yun and Lu Zhenzhen's face twisted so much that she wanted to march up to the physician and slap him for saying nonsense. How could that tea not be poisonous?!
Seated on her chair and enjoying the wonderful massage on her neck, the Matriarch raised a brow. Lu Xuilan had told the truth and that tea was indeed effective? She turned to Lu Xuilan. "Make me a cup."
Lu Xuilan nodded camly. "As you wish grandmother." And then she walked down from the dais.
The physician watched her movements in confusion and turned to the Matriarch.
When the Matriarch noticed the physician looking at her neck in curiousity, she subconsciously stretched her neck a bit to give him more view of her new toy.
Afterall, it was something even the imperial family hadn't seen before!
