Xian Taiwen had taken the bait. He slept in his courtyard last night and He Yuan was very happy. His happiness increased when he saw teams of imperial physicians rushing in and out of the emperor's courtyard.

He was beyond elated when he saw Wei Yun'er rushing in and out of Xian Taiwen's courtyard, looking barely presentable. She must be alarmed. This was good.

He Yuan tried to get in several times but didn't succeed, he wasn't alarmed though. This was a delicate period and they were trying to keep the news of the emperor's weakened state from spreading.

Who knew what would happen if those old geezers in court found out?

The day went by and neither the imperial physician nor Wei Yun'er were able to detect the problem. The emperor's pulse showed he was just fine but he laid on the bed like a vegetable and could barely lift his eyelids.

CLATTER!

Wei Yun'er swiped the tea cups and plates of pastries on the table to the ground. Qi Qi and the other personal maids all plopped to the ground.

"Your majesty, you must remain calm. I am very sure His majesty would be fine." Qi Qi extorted.

"How can I remain calm? I couldn't even-" Wei Yun'er suddenly paused and stared at her personal maids.

These people practically worshipped her as a god because of her medicine skills, how could she possibly tell them she couldn't figure out what was wrong with Xian Taiwen?

She collapsed weakly on her bed and waved at them to quickly clean up and give her privacy. Once the were gone, she pinched the space between her brows.

What was wrong? She'd spent a lot of time trying to familiarize herself with the medicinal ingredients of this time. Coupled with her advanced knowledge, she should be invincible. What was this sudden illness that she couldn't detect?

How did Xian Taiwen suddenly fall sick? She checked his pulse over and over again and even inspected every object and person he came in contact with but found nothing.

Could this maybe be... Natural? She sat up and smacked her palm against the bed. That must be it! How could there be an illness she couldn't detect? It must be a natural occurrence. There was nothing wrong with her skills!

Now that she figured that out, she was less alarmed. Her point of focus now was how to fight off this natural illness. She needed to think of a way.

Very early the next day, Wei Yun'er grabbed her silver needles and medicine bag and then rushed off to Xian Taiwen's courtyard again.

He Yuan kept his ears perked for any news. He'd tried to get in the courtyard again this morning but didn't succeed. He began feeling a little uneasy when he saw Wei Yun'er rush in with confidence, a big leap from her disheveled state the day before.

His plans wouldn't fail right? If he did not get to Xian Taiwen before tomorrow was up or if Wei Yun'er, with her insane luck, managed to cure him first then everything would be for nothing.

It would literally cost his entire limbs before he'd be able to get another opportunity like this as Xian Taiwen would have his guard up to insane levels.

He Yuan quickly looked for a way to add laxatives to the meals of the eunuchs that were attending to the emperor. He even added a few to the meals of some old imperial physicians, these ones were already high strung from attending to the emperor and had their guards down.

By midday, news that the emperor was able to open his eyes for a few minutes spread throughout the palace. He Yuan's heart jumped to his throat. Was Wei Yun'er really going to succeed? He'd worked so hard to refine that medicine but Wei Yun'er was easily going to counter its effects with her insane luck!

Another news soon spread, it seemed the emperor's illness might be contagious as the eunuchs and even some imperial physicians were experiencing bowel incontinence.

The news soon reached the bedridden emperor's ears and he had his imperial guards quickly take Wei Yun'er away. She was his love, how could he let her get infected? Her safety was his number one priority! If she wanted to cure him she could do so through the imperial physicians.

Wei Yun'er of course refused. How could she leave her sweetheart during this trying times? But Xian Taiwen remained adamant and turned the other way with pain in his eyes as he mobilized his shadow guards against her.

Wei Yun'er stared at the shadow guards blocking her way. She could easily defeat three or five but could she fight off ten or twenty? She stomped her foot and returned to her plum blossom courtyard. freewe bnovel .com

Stupid Xian Taiwen. Even at this time, he was more worried about her. She was so furious.

He Yuan scoffed. Xian Taiwen was so quick to send his love away but the imperial physicians and eunuchs were to remain. Did he think the imperial physicians and eunuchs did not have people who loved them too?

He sighed. As unfair as it was, nothing could actually be done. It was really hard to serve an emperor in ancient times. Your life meant nothing and you could end up as collateral damage at any point in time.

So He Yuan generously ignored their display of 'I-love-you-even-in-the-face-of-death' and waited patiently in the vicinity in front of the emperor's courtyard.

If they failed to select him even now, he was going to poison the entire imperial palace with laxatives. They should just dare him and see!

Due to the lack of manpower, some high ranking eunuchs had to select a few low rank eunuchs to attend to the emperor and He Yuan was also randomly selected. fr(e)ewebnov(e)l.com

He finally breathed a sigh of relief as he composed himself and walked in with the other eunuchs. Xian Taiwen had fallen into coma again and after a round of extra treatment by the imperial physicians, the eunuchs were called in to wipe the emperor down.

He Yuan inspected Xian Taiwen's face as he wiped him down with two others. The man was a little pale but he seemed to be doing nicely. He Yuan's heart shook again, if he had given Wei Yun'er more time, she would have truly cured him!

He quickly slipped out his silver needles and held it in between his fingers, when he got to Xian Taiwen's crotch area, that was covered with his flimsy inner garment, He Yuan sneakily flicked the needles at different acupoints on his pelvis and then calmly withdrew the needles.

His job was done. He resisted the strong urge to break down in relieved tears as he walked out of the emperor's courtyard with the sullied water.

Less than fifteen minutes later, Wei Yun'er rushed back to the emperor's courtyard. She'd gone to inspect the infected eunuchs and imperial physicians to see if she could deduce anything about Xian Taiwen's illness from their own sicknesses but realized that it was quite different.

They all had diarrhea due to ingesting unclean water and nothing else, the reason they were the only ones infected was because they'd drank from the same set of jugs in their hurry to finish up and go back to attending to the emperor. Xian Taiwen's illness wasn't communicable at all!

She could go to him and save him!

He Yuan stared at Wei Yun'er's back and wiped his cold sweat with the back of his palm. Too close. Too, too close. If he'd been only a little slower then he wouldn't have succeeded at all!

Wei Yun'er's luck was really something else.
