Chapter 8: I Know Who It Is

Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

The child in my stomach was already three months old. My previously-flat stomach was already showing signs of swelling. I gently touched my stomach. When I thought about the little life here, my heart softened.

“But don’t you care that your status is going to be reduced to an inferior wolf? How am I supposed to accept this…”

Yili anxiously jumped up from the sofa as her words continued to echo throughout the room. The words ‘inferior wolf’ remained in my ears and I didn’t know how to respond to her, so I lowered my head and kept silent.

Kans pulled the stomping Yili back onto the sofa. and she quickly realized that she had said something wrong. She instantly shut her mouth and turned away, but I could tell that she was starting to tear up.

Kans looked at me as if he wanted to say something, but hesitated. Finally, he asked, “Ellie, if you don’t remember who the father is, are you sure it’s OK for the child to be born without a father?”

Upon hearing his words, Yili regained her spirit and echoed him. “Yeah, Sis. Do you have the heart to let your child be fatherless?”

In my entire life, I would say that my father had been the most significant figure.

Unlike a mother’s love, a father’s love was dignified. Since I was young, my father taught me through words and actions. His beliefs had always influenced me. He was my role model.

And naturally, my mind wandered to the image of the person who had ruined my life, the father of my child.

They were right. A child’s growth is incomplete without a father’s guidance. I had no right to make my child grow up without a father.

And that was why I decided to be honest with them. “Actually, I do know who the father is.”

“What?” Kans was shocked.

My younger sister’s mouth was also wide open. She asked, “Who is it? I’m going to kill him.”

I felt disgusted even thinking about his name. After a long silence, I said, “Dark Night Pack’s Alpha, Anton.”

When she heard this name, my younger sister’s face was filled with disbelief, as if she had been struck by lightning. The very mouth that just bravely said that she would kill him now hung open, not quite sure what to say.

Yili’s reaction was within my expectations. After all, Anton had always been an Alpha that my father, and even our entire pack, loathed. However, his pack’s power was too strong – he was the most powerful existence in the city.

Now that she knew who it was, Yili secretly found Anton’s contact information among Father’s files. However, her suspicious appearance had caught Father’s attention, so she did not dare to act rashly in the near future.

Kans visited again. This time, he sat next to me as he handed me his phone with a heavy expression. He looked as if he had something to say.

But now, my attention was on the phone as I stared at the contact information on the display. I didn’t dare to call him. I was afraid of how he would react. I was afraid that he would reject me. I hated him, but for the sake of my child, I had to rely on him.

In the end, I mustered up the courage to call him. After an unknown amount of time, just as I thought that he wouldn’t pick up, a “Hello” came from the other side. I clenched the phone tightly.

This voice had awakened all the memories of that night. He and I had been so crazy with each other that we acted as if we had abandoned everything and only lived for this one night.

“Who is it?”

Maybe it was because I hadn’t spoken for too long that the other side gradually became impatient. So I quickly expressed my intentions. “Hello, do you remember the Annual Alpha Conference a few months ago? You got in bed with me. ”

But Anton simply belittled me. “It’s been too long. Who would remember what happened?” His voice was magnetic as he spoke slowly. He sounded very sexy, but the words he said came to me like sharp blades, ruthlessly piercing my heart.

“But I’m pregnant!”

Upon hearing what I said, Anton paused for a second before saying, “Do you think any random pregnant b*tch-wolf can threaten me with such nonsense?”

Just as I was about to retort, the other party hung up. When I called again, I realized that the other party had already blocked me.

My knees buckled as I fell to the ground, the hand holding the phone gone limp.

Kans quickly helped me back up. “How about we don’t keep the baby?” asked he hesitantly.

When Kans said this, I felt the child in my stomach kick me, as if saying, “Mom, don’t leave me.” Now that the child was already three months old, how could I give it up just like that?

I shook my head at Kans.

Maybe Anton really didn’t remember. After all, he was drunk with me at that time, and I didn’t leave any trace of my existence when I left. He might have thought that I was a female hooligan who was harassing him.

I didn’t know why but just hearing his voice made me feel attracted to him again.

Seeing how persistent I was in keeping the baby, Kans sighed deeply. He gave up the idea of persuading me to do otherwise. After all, he had come to say something else.

“Ellie,” said Kans. “Take care of yourself during this time. There’s something I need to take care of so I’ll probably be gone for some time before I can come see you again.”

Kans’ hesitation made me feel a little suspicious. I couldn’t help but wonder if whatever he needed to deal with was related to me. I decided to ask, “What happened?”

Kans waved his hand at me nonchalantly and pretended as if it wasn’t anything worth talking about. “It’s not a big deal. It’s something that can be easily resolved. It’s just that it’s going to take a long time.”

I looked at Kans’ awkward expression and had many guesses in my mind. I blurted out the biggest guess lingering in my mind. “Is it your family…”

As soon as I said this, Kans’ expression changed for a moment before he pretended to be happy and shrugged me off again. “No, I really have something to do. Don’t think too much about it.”
