It was most likely because I had arrived on time that my father didn’t fuss over the that I didn’t return last night. He only gave me a slightly reproachful look but didn’t say anything more to blame me.
We were halfway through the meeting and those present were still talking about things that had been repeated several times a few months ago. I had long lost my patience to listen, but Father was sitting next to me, so I had to keep looking attentive

My father stood on the stage, solemnly telling the elders about the many matters that would entail after I inherited the Alpha position. After the meeting, my father was called by his Beta to resolve pending and recent pack problems. Since he had been busy all this time, thankfully he had no time to interrogate me about what I did yesterday.
I stood not far away and looked at my busy father. I had always admired him for being able to perfectly handle all the big and small matters of the pack. He was deeply loved by the pack members which inspired me to privately follow in his footsteps. I only hope that after I inherited the position of Alpha, I could have one-tenth of my father’s working ability.
I walked out the door and found that Kans was still waiting for me. I was surprised. This fellow had been standing here the entire time?
When Kans saw me, he waved at me excitedly. “Ellie, shall I send you home?”
“You’ve been waiting for me here?” asked I uncertainly.
Kans avoided his eyes and scratched his face. “No, I just happened to pass by.”
Just as I was about to refute him, I noticed a red sports car driving towards Kans’ black car before stopping right next to it.
Once the driver had gotten off, he respectfully opened the back door and a beautiful girl came out of the car. She was wearing a long white dress, looking as delicate as a lotus flower on a serene pond.
The beautiful woman made no hesitation to walk right in between Kans and me. She pushed Kans away with one hand and grabbed me in the other.
“Sister, let’s go home.” She turned and smiled sweetly at me. Then, she raised her eyebrows provocatively at Kans.
This is my little sister, Yili.
“Hey, I’ve been waiting here for Ellie for two hours, I-” Kans began to yell at Yili with a dark expression but quickly realized that he had slipped up so he instantly fell silent.
Yili glanced at Kans in disdain, as if she had seen through him. “Ugh, with your guts, you’d have to wait for a lifetime.”
The two continued to bicker but I couldn’t understand why. “Stop quarreling.”
The two of them were childhood friends and had been fighting since they were young. I had always been the middle person to stop them. Fortunately, they listened to me.
Thankfully, they stopped quarreling this time too though they were still staring daggers at each other, unconvinced of each other’s truce. They’re almost adults, but they still acted like children.
“Sister, who will you go with?”
Although Yili asked the question, her tight grip that remained on my arm showed that she had already decided what I should answer regardless. I looked at Kans who understood what my choice would be and why. So he raised his hand and gestured a few ‘OK’s’ before walking towards his own car.
But Yili still made sure to look at Kans victoriously and the latter couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
“Sis, what did you do last night?” asked?Yili as she sat beside me, still tightly hugging my arm. She stared at me without blinking.
As Yili’s older sister, I had tried my best to take care of her since we were young. We grew up together and were the closest people to each other.
I trusted Yili very much and had never kept any secrets from her. It was the same for her. As Yili gradually grew up, there were some things that she was more mature in handling than I. Thus, I would sometimes tell her about my troubles and seek her advice.
In order to prevent the driver from finding out, I typed out my response on my phone.

I paused, trying to organize my next words before continuing.
