If a Pokemon is so fast that it can exceed the distance before the time runs out to prepare an Expert rank move, [Teleport]'s effectiveness is greatly reduced.

Bastiodon used [Toxic] and hit Alakazam who failed to dodge. he finished earlier because he started preparing his moves earlier than Alakazam. Alex times it perfect like that.
Alex looked at Gary as he said with a smile, "if you'd rather have the time to think than provoke me, it probably wouldn't happen."
Although that statement wasn't actually true in this case, in Alex's opinion, it doesn't really matter if it's really true or not. As long as Gary gets mad about it, it has fulfilled its meaning.

Alex looked at Gary with a speechless expression, as he thought, 'Why are you always happy so early? can't you wait for it to happen?.'
Gary noticed Alex's odd expression but didn't pay attention to that anymore and he started looking at Bastiodon who was already preparing a move before he was hit by [Psychic].
Bastiodon finished with the move [Rest] and he used it almost immediately. Bastiodon fell to the ground with a sluggish expression as all the wounds on his body began to heal.
Alex telepathically said to Bastiodonm," [Sleep Talk]"
Gary, who saw this, still showed a calm expression, "That's just a bit of a time delay."
Alakazam hit Bastiodon again with a [Psychic] and several new wounds appeared on Bastiodon's body.
Gary said with a serious expression, "Alakazam use [Psychic] two more times and we'll finally defeat these Pokemon."
Alex knew that by the time Bastiodon had to take 2(+0.25) Master rank moves, he wouldn't wake up and Bastiodon wouldn't get a chance to use [Rest] again.
He could only hope that the [Sleep Talk]'s two random Expert rank moves weren't too bad.
Bastiodon finished first using [Sleep Talk] and a white steely beam flew towards Alakazam.
The move was definitely [Flash Cannon] and Alex felt his luck wasn't bad.
Alakazam was hit and after enduring the pain he used [Psychic].
