Chapter 494 Leaving the Grey ash city
"Husband, an imperial envoy is looking for you", Zhan Chen got a message from Shui Liying while walking towards the Lu clan's base.
"An imperial envoy?", Zhan Chen muttered with a questioning expression on his face.
"Husband, imperial envoys from the Xie clan are well-known experts in the Central land. All of them are powerful cultivators, completely loyal to the imperial Xie clan. The least powerful among them has a cultivation of late emperor realm. As for the most powerful imperial envoys, all of them are half step sage realm experts", Shui Liying spoke. Her voice was solemn as she didn't want Zhan Chen to underestimate the imperial envoys.
"I will meet him after giving instructions to the captains under my command. It will take only few minutes. So, you don't have to worry", Zhan Chen spoke.
"Come to the second floor after instructing your subordinates. The imperial envoy is having a conversation with elder brother Yukong and me", Shui Liying spoke.
"I understand", Zhan Chen replied. The Lu clan's base was very close to the city lord's mansion. So, it didn't take him much time to appear infront of his subordinates.
"Captains, please gather around. I have an important announcement for all of you", Zhan Chen spoke.
First captain He Yu, second captain Lu Cheng, third captain Zheng Ying, fourth captain Qian Shanni and fifth captain Hu Wei, flew towards Zhan Chen after hearing his words. Zhan Chen looked towards all the five captains after they gathered infront of him.
"Prepare yourselves. We will leave the city after all the captains and squard leaders receive their identification tokens", Zhan Chen spoke.
"You will receive them once you go to the City lord's mansion. All the squard leaders are required to register the name of the squard members underneath them.
These identification tokens are important because it can count the kill points for every individual cultivators. The more you kill, the more kill points you will accumulate. These kill points can be exchanged for cultivation resources from the Sky dragon alliance", he further added.
"Identification tokens that can record individual kill points!", Zheng Ying exclaimed. Other four captains also felt surprised as they looked towards eachother with incredulous expression on their faces.
"It is a surprise for me as well. I have asked general Chao about it. According to him, the identification tokens are made with the assistance from the Spirit palace. Propably, each identification tokens can be sensed by the Sky tower. With its mysterious abilities, it is not strange that it can record individual kill points", Zhan Chen explained.
"Commander Chen, what mission we are assigned? Please tell us. So that, we can mentally prepare", fifth captain Hu Wei asked. Other four captains looked towards Zhan Chen as well as they were curious about the mission that Zhan Chen had received.
"You don't have to worry about our mission. General Chao has not given me any particular assignment. We can do as we please but we have to assist commander Li Wei and commander Hui Guo if they face any precarious situations while fighting with the devils.
He has ordered me to give special attention towards our kill points. No matter what, our kill points should not fall behind other groups", Zhan Chen spoke.
"This is rather puzzling. Do we have to wait untill other commanders' fall into disadvantage? If we wait untill then, I am afraid our kill points will be lesser than other commanders", Qian Shanni spoke.
"Why should we wait? Elder Chao has given us permission to act as we please. We will attack devils whenever we want. Only precondition is that we don't stray very farm from commander Wei and commander Guo's group. That way, we can rush to their aids whenever they fall into disadvantage", Zhan Chen spoke.
He went back towards the city lord's mansion after talking with the captains. The city lord's mansion was already crowded by the time he returned. Numerous captains and squard leaders were arriving in the city lord's mansion to receive their identification tokens.
"This little brat is a commander? What the Xuantian sect is thinking?"
"He may not be impressive but the experts under him are quite impressive. Even sect leader Qian Shanni from the Lotus moon sect has joined him. Few of his captains are not less powerful than our commander."
Zhan Chen heard numerous gossips about him as he passed though the crowd of cultivators. After entering inside the city lord's mansion, he went directly towards the second floor.
There was a bearded tall man talking with Yang Yukong and Shui Liying. He had an easygoing expression on his face but his somehow different eyes, gave away his identity as a true expert.
"This brat is finally here", he spoke when Zhan Chen entered the city lord's mansion. His eyes glowed with a violet hue when he sensed Zhan Chen's arrival. The violet hue in his eyes stayed for few moments before disappearing. A puzzled expression appeared on his face after the violet hue disappeared from his eyes.
"Strange, why can't I sense his cultivation realm?", he muttered to himself. Shui Liying and Yang Yukong chuckled after hearing his muttering.
"Seniors, may I enter?", Zhan Chen asked after arriving infront of the meeting hall.
"Come in", Yang Yukong replied.
"Greetings seniors", Zhan Chen bowed towards all the three emperors after entering the meeting hall. Shui Liying smiled slightly after seeing Zhan Chen.
"You are Zhan Chen?", the imperial envoy asked. He had an amiable expression on his face but Zhan Chen quickly became alert as soon as he saw the imperial envoy. He could see that the imperial envoy was here to examine him and see through his secrets.
"Yes senior, I am Zhan Chen", Zhan Chen nodded his head.
"What is your cultivation realm?", the imperial envoy asked.
"I am currently in the Martial ascension realm", Zhan Chen replied. Yang Yukong was initially calm but a frown appeared on his face when he heard imperial envoy's second question. He looked towards Shui Liying but Shui Liying shook her head to signal him to not interfere.
"What is your relationship with second princess?", the imperial envoy asked.
"She is a close friend of mine. I would describe her as a companion of mine although she wants me to call her as elder sister", Zhan Chen spoke. He appear well composed despite facing sharp questions from the imperial envoy.
It was turn for Yang Yukong to feel surprised. He had not expected that Zhan Chen would be close to the most beautiful woman in the Northern desert continent.
Xie Lanying, the second princess was an enigma in herself. Everyone knew she was the most beautiful woman but none had seen her face untill now. Her beauty aside, her skill in handling her business and imperial affairs made her one of the most capable woman in the Central land. It was said that the current Xie emperor dotes on her two daughters most. One was the second princess and the other one was the ninth princess. Yang Yukong felt surprised after knowing that Zhan Chen was close with such a character. Compared to him, Shui Liying was rather nonchalant. She personally knew how terrifying Zhan Chen's women picking ability was. So, it was not a surprise for her that second princess, Xie Lanying was close with Zhan Chen.
"Your companion? You are rather impudent to describe second princess that way", the imperial envoy spoke. His expression became slightly cold as he looked towards Zhan Chen.
"Whether, I am impudent or not, that is something only second princess can judge. You are not in a position to point at our relationship", Zhan Chen spoke. He was still maintaining his composure despite facing the offending behaviour from the imperial envoy.
"You really have guts. I will ask you one last question before leaving the Grey ash city", the imperial envoy spoke. His scrutinizing eyes had never left Zhan Chen's face in the entire conversation.
"Senior, please ask", Zhan Chen spoke politely. He had yet to get completely irritated because he could feel that the imperial envoy had no malicious intention towards him. But his behaviour really got on his nerves.
"What is your goal? What do you want to do for your Zhan clan when you become a powerful cultivator?", the imperial envoy looked towards Zhan Chen.
"Senior, you are asking two questions while I have agreed to answer one", Zhan Chen spoke.
"Are you answering or not?", the imperial envoy asked with a pressing voice.
I am not obligated to answer anything to the imperial family but I will reply to the question because of my relationship with the second princess. I can tell that you are not interrogating me on your own rather you are doing it because you are instructed to do so. So, I will help you in carrying out your duty", Zhan Chen spoke.
The expression on the imperial envoy's face didn't change even after he listened to Zhan Chen's words. From his outward apperance, he appeared composed but inwardly, a sense of panick overwhelmed his mind. He felt that his closely guarded secrets would be seen through by Zhan Chen if he continued this conversation.
"There is no need for you to answer my questions. I am merely interested in you. You can't tell that, I am interrogating you. Your words are rather defamatory in nature. Why would an imperial envoy like me would interrogate a junior like you? I felt curious towards you because the second princess has sent a precious gift for you. It is uncharacteristic of her to send a gift to anyone outside the imperial family", the imperial envoy spoke. He took out a mist white tailsman and handed it to Zhan Chen.
