Chapter 36: Chapter 35: My pack

Damon walked towards the Chosen dormitory with a confused look on his face. He simply said I refuse and mentally prepared himself to be convinced, pressured, and even threatened to remain with the Hail family but surprisingly, Duke Hail made no effort to hold him back. He simply made Damon promise not to give out information about the werewolves and the supernatural side of the world.

There was no kind of binding spell or any kind of insurance yet the man let him go, just like that! Damon remained silent as he pondered on all that happened and frowned. No matter what he couldn’t get his mind off it. A man who turned him without his permission, suddenly lets him go when he requests to leave and even goes as far as to send assign a carriage and guards to take him back to the academy safely.

Thud!

Damon was a bit absent-minded and bumped into someone and fell on his butt. It was an elderly man in white and golden priest robes and a wired looking hat on his head. The man looked like someone who had lived for centuries and holding on to life.

Pope Light gazed at Damon fiercely with golden eyes. He wanted to inspect this youth at close range and come to his conclusion. His eyes released a golden light as he gazed at Damon fiercely but for a brief moment and after everything he sighed and gazed at Damon with pitiful eyes.

“I watched your fight with the orc scout. It was superb... Your talent is top-notch... it’s a pity the Hail family chose you” Pope Light said with a genuinely sad and pitiful look on his face.

“I REFUSED” Damon coldly to the weird old man with a pissed look on his face.

.....

“If only escaping the Hails is that easy. You can come and go but eventually, you will stay. Once you have the curse, there is no escape” Pope Light said calmly and walked past Damon, never turning back.

Hearing this, Damon felt uncertain about his future alone. Right now the old man has said it, it makes a lot of sense. How can he survive the side effects of being a werewolf without their help?

How does he know what he needs to do and has to do as a werewolf? According to the little he knows, the curse is still at its incubation stage. When it is finally full moon, he will be forced to deal with the forceful transformation and all that..

“Those bastards. They left me alone because they knew I will run back to them. Well if that’s what they think, I will prove them wrong” Damon sneered and entered his dorm.

His return came as a shock to many especially his team. They all heard he was badly injured when fighting the berserk orc scout. In fact, the entire school knew about this, boasting his reputation even more.

During classes, Damon would attend and pay attention. While people thought Damon was taking his studies seriously, they didn’t know he was fighting to block out all the sounds around him. A class full of noisy students is the worse place a person with enhanced hearing can be.

After the class, he walked straight to the library and picked up books about the supernatural to read. The more he saw, the more pissed off he got. Not only did he get involved with something unrelated to him but he also joined the losing team. It is said that it takes groups of werewolves to take down blood clan members.

In reality, the werewolves are divided into three tiers. Alpha, beta, and omega. Alpha is the leader of the group like Duke Hail who gets stronger with each member he adds to the group. The betas are werewolves who have an alpha. They are under his protection and since they stay together it would be difficult to pick them off. Finally, the Omega are werewolves without an alpha. They refuse to be a part of any pack

“Safety in packs” Damon muttered as he leaned back on the chair with a frown on his face

According to Duke Hail, the blood clan members are everywhere and their hatred for the werewolves is top notch. He is not yet a werewolf until his first full moon. After that, he will be able to sniff them out and they will be able to sniff him out too. Without a pack, his death is almost imminent.

“Nice one but do you really think, Damon is someone that can be killed easily?” Damon mumbled before he continued reading.

..............

Days passed by quickly and the first full moon drew closer. With no other choice, Damon asked Gin for a favor and after his last stunt during their mission, he had earned the respect of everyone on his team.

“I need your help!” Damon said with a stern look as he walked toward them, leaving everyone stunned.

A good portion of the morning passed and no one went to class because they all stayed back to listen to Damon’s tale. Surprisingly, none of them were stunned. They seemed to already know the secrets of the Hails. While Gin and Cyrus are from high-ranking families who just have access to information. Klien’s sister was the past Death guardian spirit host. So she knew things and he got to know them from her.

“This is bad. Tonight is the full moon and your first turn... it won’t be funny” Klien said.

“That’s why I need you all to hold me down. I can’t afford to go berserk...” Damon said.

“You need to be chained up... And I think I have just the right chains for that” Gin said with a sly smile on his face.

Looking at his face, Damon was starting to feel like this is a bad idea. Anyway, the book states all werewolves need a pack for survival. If that’s the case, this is his pack! People he can trust to an extent since they are bound by the same goal. The will to survive!
