Chapter 8: Hound Hunt [Bonus Chapter]

The hero and I separated.

Fifteen minutes of immunity and then about two hours of lasting in the mist. That was our current limit, but just a single hour was enough to make us fall to a near death state.

I slowly crawled out of the alleys and the debris as I looked ahead. Cigarette still stuck in between my lips, I looked at the giant hound not that far away.

Right.

I was going to take down the hound.

I reached the remains of the building and picked up a stone first. The small slab of debris rounded out from the fall weighed about five hundred grams, just perfect for the show.

Slowly, I pulled my hand back.

My body pivoted.

My muscles stretched.

In a single go, I sent the stone flying.

"Wuf!"

A whimper sounded out as the stone hit the hound the size of a five-story building.

Slowly, it turned around.

Black eyes gleamed at me like the night itself, the fur of red fluttering into the crimson burns of the city, with nails like spears and teeth like swords, the hound turned back, and growled.

"GRAAAH!"

Its scream resounded all over the city as its heavy breathing fell near me.

I took in a puff of the smoke with one hand and scratched inside my ears with the other. It was a tad too loud for my taste.

The hound had locked on to me. It raised its paws and took a step ahead.

The ground quaked.

"GRAAAAAA!"

And with another scream, it ran.

The hound hunt had begun.

I grinned and immediately turned around, dashing away from the pile of debris and down the streets. The large hound followed right behind.

The map of the place was open in front of my eyes.

Idiots. They had practically given us the way to defeat this giant boss.

The Earth trembled as the hound followed right behind me. Maybe the hero could, but I was going to have a slightly hard time outrunning this hound.

I jumped over a broken sign. A car was in my way. With both my hands on its deck, I vaulted above it.

No sign of slowing down, no sign of stopping.

But the hound was too fearsome an enemy.

It was almost caught up.

"GRAAA!"

The hound screamed as if announcing my end. Even if it had the wits of a brick, one had to admire the chutzpah.

I rolled ahead and dived into a narrow alley between the buildings.

"GRRRR!" The hound screamed and dived face-first into the buildings, crushing its head.

Turning back, I stuck my tongue out at the hound and teased it.

"Come and get some, little shit!"

The hound screamed once more and followed me through the alley, breaking the buildings in the way with its own body.

It was soon going to be killed.

I stood alone in the center of a building with glass walls and a broken interior.

This place, the next and the largest safe zone from the mist was in the same line as the other one before. The pipings were old and in need of renewal.

"You're fast," Vincent had said. "So go and open the main gas valves on every floor. Make it so that it would burn!"

"Haha…" I chucked to myself.

I guess I was never going to be free from that villain.

But, I too wanted to survive. And to get my home back, and to make a fucking harem.

"Let's do this."

And so, I ran.
