Chapter 30: Period Of Grace [Pt 2]

I had tried out both <Sprint> and <Focus>, and now <Visualize>.
So far, the experiences I was having with these Skills were beyond amazing.
They were thrilling.
But I wasn't done yet.
'I've been saving the best for the last, and now it's finally time to use it.' A broad grin formed on my face as I looked at the glowing orb hovering above my palm.
"...Rock."
I was excited to see all it could do, considering it's new and improved perks.

'Hehe... let's do this!' I chuckled, adrenaline coursing through my veins.
The demons were already starting to spread out, making it the perfect moment to eliminate them one by one. With a quick assessment of the situation, I honed in on my first target.
"I'm curious about how this really works."
I focused on my targets, ready to launch my Energy Rock.
'Will it incorporate my current Combat Ability to the mix when dealing damage, since I'm linked to it, or will it's base Combat Ability and Energy Level be the only thing it'll exert if I just control it?'
These questions swirled in my mind, and the only way to find out was to take the first step.
"I'll try launching it with my hands first, and then, for the second attempt, I'll control it psychically."
This way, I could observe the difference in damage and refine my technique.
'Let's begin!'
~WHOOOMMM!!~
It felt like the air parted as I propelled the Energy Rock towards an unsuspecting demon.
Like a swift streak of brilliant blue light, the rock struck its head in a fraction of a second.
~BAM!~
The head flew off, and the Energy Rock tore through its skull, smashing into the building behind it, all in an instant.
~BOOOOMMM!~
'A-ah! That was too much!' Wincing a little, I ground my teeth.
The excessive damage had registered not only in my mind but also in the minds of my enemies.
Panicked, the demons frantically scanned their surroundings to locate the source of the attack.
Unfortunately for me, I was still recovering from the powerful blow I had dealt and couldn't completely hide away in time.
As a result, I was found.
"GRAAAKKKKK!!!" Their bellowing cries echoed through the air, creating an uproar.
'Shit! They'll make too much noise, and more will be drawn here in no time.'
I had to silence them... and fast!
'It's time for my second experiment with the Energy Rock.'
Swiftly, I controlled the glowing rock with my mind, feeling it as an extension of myself. It was as if I held it close, directing it wherever I pleased with unparalleled precision.
The control... the power... everything felt entirely natural.
'Haa...' My wide grin intensified as I watched the Demons close in on me.
'I've got this!'
~WHOOOOMMM!!!~
The Energy Rock surged forward, a bolt of azure lightning, targeting the approaching group.
The newfound connection with it was electrifying, filling me with raw power.
Like a speeding bullet, it struck the demons' heads, each impact sending them tumbling away from their decapitated bodies before homing in on the next.
One by one, they fell until the final demon crumbled mere meters from my position.
In the end, they had all been utterly defenseless against me, or rather, against my formidable weapon.
"Excellent job," I congratulated the spherical orb as it returned to me.
The monsters' blood dripped from its sleek surface, with any traces left on it incinerated by its radiant energy.
The test run had been a resounding success.
'It seems even more Demons are on their way here.' I observed smiling, changing my position to a more secure hiding place.
'<Sprint> and <Focus> are now back online. My Energy has somewhat been restored as well.'
I noted, assessing the group that had gathered nearby. They would be ideal subjects for my next endeavor.
'I just need to discover ways to synergize my skills with the Energy Rock's attacks,' I contemplated, a cunning gleam in my eyes as I chuckled to myself.
'I'll make sure to use everything at my disposal.'
With determination, I hoped that in the process, I could level up further.

[12:56 PM, Saturday 6th of May, 2023]
It was disappointing that I hadn't managed to level up even a bit, but the experience had imparted a wealth of knowledge about my newfound abilities.
Now, I could effortlessly command the Energy Rock with a much greater degree of fluidity than before.
In addition, I had learned to harness the power of <Focus> in combination with it.
Coupled with the assistance of <Visualize>, I could predict the enemy's every move, their attacks, and precisely where they'd position themselves.
<Sprint> allowed me to move faster and achieve more in the heat of battle.
Thanks to my necklace, I could maintain my energy levels, ensuring I wouldn't run out as long as I alternated between my skills.
"It all went well, which makes it kind of a shame..."
As I surveyed my surroundings, I realized there was no longer any need to hide or proceed with caution.
"Seems there are no more demons in sight."
I was the last one standing.
This can't be right. I was certain there would be some special reward for hunting and defeating demons.'
Despite my expectations, there had been no system notification confirming this suspicion since I began hunting.
Now, there was an eerie quiet with no demons left nearby.
'Maybe I should patrol a little. If I use <Sprint> and <Focus>, I should be able to cover more ground while searching for potential targets.'
A pang of apprehension tugged at my chest, knowing I might have to venture farther from my base.
'But it'll be worth it.'

"Haa... I can't believe this."
By now, I had scoured my block thoroughly, ensuring I didn't stray too far from the comforting familiarity of my surroundings. To my surprise, I hadn't encountered a single demon or any signs of their malevolent presence.
This left me with just one option—the only place where I was absolutely certain demons existed.
"To think I'd come back here." A wry smile crept onto my lips as I gazed at the imposing structure looming before me.
"The hotel."
A shiver of dread and foreboding coursed through me as I took my first cautious step toward the entrance.
No demons were immediately visible, but a lingering unease in my chest warned me that I was on the cusp of entering an infested area.
Nonetheless, something deep within urged me onward.
Was it instinct? Or perhaps curiosity?
I couldn't be certain, but it compelled me to face my fear and reach for the door before me.
And as soon as I touched it...

The System had to be kidding me with this. After coming this far, did it genuinely believe I would turn back now?
"It's weird that it chose this particular location, but I'm relieved there's indeed a Special Event."
I had no intention of missing out.
Extending my fingers to tap the [Yes] icon, my eyes widened with exhilaration, and an eager smile instantly graced my lips.
With my heart racing and several deep breaths, I pushed the door open, ready to embrace the challenges that lay ahead.
"Here I go."
