Chapter 59: That’s... a filthy combination
At 10 at night, the Enclave elevator opened without a sound and Lucian stepped out. This time, Miles did not come with him, he was alone.
He looked at the place in front of him, the same clean floor, white walls, Enclave members moving through the lobby and for a moment, Lucian still could not believe it.
A place where monsters, curses, bloodlines, spirits, and demons weren’t just things from anime or manga—
They were real.
All of this really did happen to me, huh...
He thought inwardly as he continued to stare at the sight ahead of him.
"Enjoying the view?"
That was when he heard a familiar voice, but the voice didn’t surprise him, after all, he had already smelled the scent the instant he entered.
"Miss Voss. You came to receive me personally. I am honored."
He smiled as he turned and looked at the woman who was walking towards him.
It was Claire.
Claire looked at him and for a moment, she paused, as if she was trying to read him, but then—
"I was told to make sure you reached the briefing room without causing trouble."
She answered without showing any change in her expression.
"They sent you, huh? Were they not scared that I might lose control? I have a difficult time controlling myself around beautiful women, you know?"
Lucian smiled playfully as his purple eyes stared at Claire’s face.
"That’s exactly why they sent me, they knew if something happened, I am more than enough to deal with it."
She answered sharply.
"Wow, intimidation huh? I was only calling you beautiful, you know? It was a compliment."
"I do not need your compliments."
As they talked, a few people in the lobby turned their heads.
After all, it wasn’t common for Claire Voss to be in the lobby, talking to someone. Their eyes then fell on Lucian, the man Miss Voss was talking to.
Some looked at his face, some at his clothes, some noticed the colour of his eyes, a few noticed the band on his wrist.
Blood-Altered Human. (Incubus.)
And the next instant, whispers started.
"Is that him?"
"Vivienne’s trainee?"
"I thought he would look more..."
"Blood-Altered and Incubus-Class? That’s... a filthy combination."
"Blood-Altered, right?"
Some recognised him, some were confused and Lucian—
"Popular as always~"
He was enjoying the attention.
"They are not reacting to you."
Claire spoke coldly.
"They are reacting to the boy talking to me."
"Of course. You are very impressive and very beautiful, why wouldn’t they react to you? I react to you all the time."
Lucian smiled and Claire...
She just stared at him for a moment and...
She couldn’t help but notice how... different he was.
When she first saw him, his eyes were filled with panic, confusion, fear and that hunger he was so desperately trying to fight. Claire hadn’t forgotten his clenched fists and trembling body.
But now...
That difficult, panicked, fearful expression was nowhere to be seen, it was now replaced with... an easy, amused smile and... a sense of confidence that was almost... irritating. There was no trace of hunger inside him, he seemed... much more charming and... dangerous.
Just... what did Lady Vivienne do to him?
Claire couldn’t help but wonder as her fingers tightened slightly around the folder she was carrying.
"Thank you for taking care of the lawyers."
That was when Lucian said something.
"A bit too dramatic though, don’t you think? There was no reason to send them to the University."
"I thought you would want a public apology."
"Well, I am not saying I did not enjoy it."
Lucian chuckled.
"What did you do though? Why would they take the case back? So quickly at that. I could practically see the fear in their eyes."
He asked with a curious look on his face.
"Nothing of importance, I merely threatened that boy’s father’s company and the law firm the lawyers were from."
Claire shrugged as if it was no big deal and Lucian—
"Wow~ You are as resourceful as you are beautiful."
Lucian smiled.
Claire looked at him for a moment, she was trying to figure him out but the more she stared at him, the more questions appeared in her head, so in the end—
"Come with me."
She simply turned and began walking, not thinking about the matter any further.
Lucian smiled and walked beside her.
"You know, walking beside you makes people stare more."
He chuckled as he watched the people staring at him, he even waved at a few women who stared a little too long and got a reaction out of them.
"Then walk behind me."
Claire answered coldly.
"I would, but then people might think I am obedient. Can’t risk that now, can I? I have an image to maintain."
Claire heard those words and decided not to react to them.
She could practically smell trouble.
As they continued to walk and Lucian continued his shenanigans, suddenly—
"So..."
Lucian spoke again.
"Where is she?"
He asked because they were definitely not going to the training centre he trained in before.
"Lady Vivienne will not be seeing you today."
That made Lucian tilt his head.
"Hmm? She is tired? I didn’t even go that hard to be honest."
"I dare you to say that in front of her."
"No, I like my head when it’s on my shoulders, it’s a good picture."
Lucian declined politely and for a short second, Claire chuckled. Lucian grinned at that, Claire, however, quickly returned to her usual, expressionless face and—
"Your private training period is over for now."
"Whaattt??"
Lucian placed both hands on his mouth and gasped dramatically.
"Am I graduating?"
"No."
"Being thrown away?"
"No."
Then, Lucian looked afraid.
"Are you people... selling me away?"
Those words made Claire stop and look at him with deadpan eyes.
"What? I figured many rich beautiful women would want me."
Claire’s mouth twitched, she, however, controlled herself and—
"You are being assigned to a field team."
She answered and for the first time since they began talking, Lucian’s smile changed.
It now held real interest.
"My first mission?"
He asked as his grin widened.
"Yes."
Claire nodded and—
"Finally."
His grin widened even more.
