Chapter 2133: Chapter 2134: The Original Spouse Who Left with Nothing 53

Xie Zhen had no idea his own secretary was already speculating about his relationship with Zhang Yu, and couldn’t figure out why on earth he’d come to pick someone up at this hour.

He happily walked over to Zhang Yu, planning to have the secretary help push the luggage, only to realize at this moment that his usually sharp secretary hadn’t shown up this time.

When he turned back, he saw the guy stupidly standing in one spot, not moving at all, which made Xie Zhen very unhappy.

Zhang Yu didn’t overthink it. After greeting Xie Zhen, she pushed the luggage and headed toward the airport exit.

Only then did Xie Zhen’s secretary snap back to his senses. How could he lose his mind at a time like this? Whoever the boss came to pick up, that was his personal business. The boss’s personal business was absolutely not something a small fry like him should be worrying about.

He quickly rushed to Zhang Yu and her son’s side. "I’ll push the luggage."

The sudden appearance of this guy gave Zhang Yu and Lin Zixuan a fright; for a moment they almost thought someone was trying to snatch their bags.

"It’s okay, it’s okay, we can push it ourselves." Zhang Yu glanced at the other person’s outfit. He had "secretary" written all over him.

Well then, barring any major surprises, this should be one of Xie Zhen’s subordinates. "I can manage on my own, there’s not that much stuff."

Xie Zhen was really about to be pissed off by his own secretary. He clearly remembered this guy was usually pretty smart, but who would’ve thought he’d make a mistake like this.

Good thing the person they were welcoming today was Zhang Yu, and she wasn’t the type to care too much about this sort of thing. If it had been someone else, who knew how they’d be cursing him in their head about not knowing how to manage his staff.

The boss shot him a displeased look, scaring the secretary half to death. People always said the boss was easygoing, had a good temper, and didn’t get angry easily, and that if you followed him you could learn a lot.

He admitted that most of that was true. Xie Zhen was a pretty good boss, and he really had learned a lot working under him.

But if you said Xie Zhen had a good temper and was always gentle with people and all that, he really had to object. His boss was nowhere near that easy to talk to; all that "good attitude" was reserved for clients and outsiders.

What he left for his subordinates was strict demands. Unless you performed well, don’t expect the boss to treat you nicely.

The secretary took a deep breath, hoping this mistake wouldn’t be a big deal and that the leader wouldn’t hold it against him. He was seriously nervous.

Zhang Yu swept a glance at the uneasy secretary following behind them but said nothing, and continued chatting with Xie Zhen about some finance-circle matters and about Professor Ge.

When the secretary heard Zhang Yu mention Professor Ge’s name, it suddenly clicked a bit. This national-treasure-level expert in China’s financial sector was about to celebrate his 80th birthday. Although the old gentleman insisted on keeping it simple, people in both the financial world and academia, including Professor Ge’s students, all insisted on giving Mr. Ge a proper celebration.

As one of Mr. Ge’s students who had stayed on to work in Capital City, Xie Zhen had been busy recently receiving many of Professor Ge’s students. But there were only a handful of people the boss would personally show up at the airport for; anyone who could make the boss come out in person was someone with real status in the financial圈.

The secretary truly couldn’t understand why his boss would personally come pick up Zhang Yu. He didn’t get it, really didn’t get it.

Forget it. His boss’s actions weren’t something a small secretary like him could hope to figure out. He just needed to follow along.

When they got to the car, the secretary was much quicker on the uptake this time. He efficiently put the suitcases in the trunk, then got in and drove off.

Seeing the boss sitting in the front passenger seat, the secretary felt a bit out of sorts. Normally, if there was a driver, the boss would sit in the back, unless the people in the car were all big shots.

The more he saw, the more curious the secretary became about Zhang Yu’s identity. Other than being the "strongest husband’s ex-wife," what else was she, that could make his boss accommodate her like this?

The secretary was really curious about Zhang Yu’s background, but since the boss didn’t say and she hadn’t introduced herself, as a secretary he certainly couldn’t ask.

At this hour in Capital City, there were still a lot of cars on the road, just not actually congested. "When I graduated, Capital City already had a lot of cars, but nothing like this."

"Well, it’s Capital City. Tons of government agencies, people running between ministries, plus all the foreign firms and investment banks—how could there not be a lot of cars?"

"There are a lot of cars in Harbor City too." If you asked Xie Zhen to choose, he’d still rather pick Capital City; Harbor City just felt suffocating.

"They do have a lot of cars over there, and the roads aren’t even that wide. I basically use public transport when I go out, only occasionally call a cab or rent a car." There was nothing she could do; the cost of taking taxis in Harbor City was really painful to look at.

"You actually care about that kind of cost?" Xie Zhen was a bit surprised. "Oh right, last time I checked your Moments, you went to Dubai?"

Zhang Yu hummed in acknowledgment. "I was planning to take my parents and the kid skiing over Spring Festival; I’d never skied before, so I figured I should learn a bit. On weekends the only place I could go was Dubai to practice."

"Basically I just sleep on the plane, wake up over there, go straight to ski, then fly back Sunday afternoon." Zhang Yu described it like it was no big deal.

When the secretary heard this, his heart was in turmoil again. Wow, going to Dubai just to learn skiing. Oh, right, they do have an indoor ski resort there, no need to worry about the weather—actually a pretty good place to learn.

"You fly every week, and you’re going with your kid, too. That cost..." Xie Zhen really was envious, but even more envious of how much free time she had.

"Can’t be helped. If I don’t learn now, I’d just be wasting it when I get to the ski resort. I should at least know how to ski a little." Zhang Yu said modestly. "And exercising more is a good thing anyway."

"Right, right, right." Xie Zhen looked at the now-calm-and-collected Zhang Yu, then at the somewhat frazzled Lin Yu these days. "You haven’t been helping him with project proposals lately, have you?"

He didn’t say a name, but everyone knew who he meant. Zhang Yu hummed. "Yeah. Remember that IPO last time? He didn’t win the bid, and basically just decided to take it out on me."

"Since that’s the case, why should I still write for him? Sure, I want to make money, but if it’s unhappy money, I’d rather not earn it."

Zhang Yu made it clear she had her pride too. "What, things haven’t been going well for him lately?"

Xie Zhen hummed. "He just lost out on a mid-sized bid as well. Someone saw Han Xue curse him out as a ’useless piece of trash’ in public."

When the secretary heard this, he immediately understood what they were talking about. What terrified him even more was realizing that this woman had actually still been helping Lin Yu write project proposals even after the divorce?

And that IPO they’d mentioned—wasn’t that the case the boss was currently handling? He’d heard Lin Yu had also bid on that one, and the proposal was apparently pretty good, but because the client wanted to list overseas and Lin Yu’s side lacked experience in that area, they didn’t win.

Got it, got it. He finally understood why his boss had personally come to pick her up: because the boss highly appreciated this woman’s ability.
