"What the…?!"
Alex stared at the information panel in disbelief. His eyes widened, and his breathing became slightly heavy. He read the words again and again, as if hoping that something would suddenly change.
[Name: Lake of Life and Death
Grade: ███
Details: ??????????????]
However, the details of the lake remained the same.
"That's it?" Alex muttered in shock.
"Why is only the name there and nothing else?"
His heart trembled, for this had never happened before. Not even once.
Even when he was extremely weak, when his cultivation was almost nothing compared to his current strength, the Replication System had still been able to give him information about the Stone of Tomorrow.
It has to be known that the Stone of Tomorrow is one of the four supreme stones that stand at the very top of the universe. Even then, the System had shown its grade and basic details. It had also provided him with information about the First Chapter of the Chaos Scripture, another supreme treasure that countless Immortals had fought to the death for in ancient times.
Yet now, for this lake that existed inside his own mind, the System showed nothing other than the name.
"How is this even possible…?"
Alex just couldn't bring himself to believe it.
A strange chill ran through his heart due to the shock of facing something that his System could not explain. Until now, the System had always been his guide. Even when it hid information, it at least showed grades or partial details. But this time, it was as if the System itself was blind.
"Are you telling me… that this thing is beyond even you?" Alex muttered softly. However, this was a question directed to the system itself, as if the System could hear him.
But of course, his system didn't respond to him.
Alex took a deep breath, trying to calm his breathing. His gaze returned to the endless lake in front of him. He couldn't see anything special about this lake. It was just like any other ordinary lake.
If Alex has to say something, he would say that this lake was simply too calm. There was not a single ripple or movement on its surface.
As for why it was called the Lake of Life and Death, Alex didn't have an answer. At least not yet.
"This lake is inside my mind… inside my consciousness. What exactly is it? Is it even a real lake?"
Alex's thoughts started to spin. Several questions appeared in his mind.
"If my System cannot analyze this lake, how would I get the answer? It seems I have to visit the Boundless Shop first and upgrade my system by replicating the auxiliary boundless systems from other customers. Perhaps, I can obtain the answer at that time."
For the first time, Alex felt that even if he became an Immortal, he wouldn't receive any information other than the lake's name from the system. His instincts were telling him that his system was simply not powerful enough to see through this lake.
He even felt that the Heavenly Spirit Stone wouldn't be able to tell anything about this lake. It was as if this lake wasn't even part of this universe... or him. It was as if this lake were an entirely different entity.
For the first time in his life, Alex felt his emotions were in chaos. He tried to suppress his emotions, but they erupted even more overwhelmingly for an entirely unknown reason.
This caused another layer of confusion to appear inside his heart, deepening the puzzle that was already too complicated to solve for the current him.
"Why did this lake appear now, of all times, inside my mind?"
"Why only after the Godfiend Phantom Body awakened?"
"Is its appearance truly related to the Godfiend Phantom Body, or… was this lake always here, and I was simply not qualified to see it?"
The moment this thought appeared in his mind, Alex's heart trembled.
"If it was always here, then what does that say about me?"
"What does that say about my existence?"
He felt a strange mix of shock and wonder. Yet again, Alex felt that his own identity was not simple.
After a long time, he had finally obtained information about his true identity, partly from the Heavenly Spirit Stone and fully after awakening the memories of his past life.
However, he never expected that his identity would once again become a question.
Was he truly the descendant of the White Family, one of the greatest families in the entire universe?
If so, then what did the presence of this lake inside his mind represent?
Why was he even doubting his own identity just because of this lake?
Did it even make sense?
Alex felt that the doubt about his identity was being forcefully stirred within his heart by the lake itself, and the lake was not even trying to hide it.
"This lake is called the Lake of Life and Death. Life and Death are the two most fundamental forces of existence. So why is something like this inside my mind?"
"I know Godfiend Phantom Body also represents life and death, and this might be the only reason that I was able to even detect this lake. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to sense its existence and come here at all, at least not with my current cultivation level and strength."
Countless questions flooded Alex's mind endlessly, one after another. The more it was like this, the more his breathing slowed as his mind grew sharper.
However, he had no choice but to forcefully suppress all these questions in his heart for the time being.
"Since I know I can't obtain the answer I want, I'll wait until I can."
Alex muttered and then withdrew this part of his consciousness from the lake's space.
As for why he did not even try to walk closer to the lake or investigate it further, Alex knew his own limits too well. He could not even handle the power of the Supreme Stones yet, so how could he dare to have any thoughts of probing something like this lake?
Moreover, since this lake existed inside his mind, no one could take it away from him. Sooner or later, he would seek the answers and uncover everything about it. There was no need to rush.
