Chapter 388: Chapter 387: Show Mercy
The great battle between Ye Fan and Heather continued.
"Ancestor Blood Arrow!" Heather condensed a blood arrow and shot it at Ye Fan.
"Bring it on!" Ye Fan roared, raising his Yuanhong Sword to block the attack.
BOOM!
The Ancestor Blood Arrow shattered. The force sent Ye Fan flying, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.
"Ancestor Lord!"
Four torrents of blood energy surged forward. They were the Blood Ancestors of the Vampire Clan, guardians of the Ancestor Lord, who had been awakened by Heather’s power. They took their positions by her side, confronting Ye Fan.
Heather gazed at Ye Fan for a long moment before finally sighing. "Forget it," she said. "Let him go."
"Ancestor Lord, this man has gone too far! Allow us to capture him!"
Several Blood Ancestors were unconvinced. It was a bitter pill to swallow that their esteemed Vampire Clan’s Holy Mountain was being humiliated by a mere youth from the Divine Land.
Heather said simply, "I do not wish to repeat myself."
"Yes." The Blood Ancestors had no choice but to step aside.
"Farewell forever!" Ye Fan laughed heartily and rushed down the mountain. Without a doubt, if Heather hadn’t let him go, he never would have escaped today. Perhaps she had finally given up her plan to turn him into her manservant.
After Ye Fan left, Heather suddenly spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.
"Ancestor Lord!" the Blood Ancestors exclaimed in alarm.
"My old injuries have flared up again," Heather said. "Do not let the other clan members know about this, or it will cause worry and panic."
"Yes," the Blood Ancestors replied, nodding quickly.
"Finally, I’ve turned the tables!" Ye Fan laughed wildly. He hadn’t expected his adventure into the Vampire Clan’s territory to be so full of twists and turns. In the end, he had become the ultimate beneficiary. Ye Fan couldn’t have been more pleased. Now, perhaps he could finally set his sights on the Mo Sect.
Suppressing his excitement, he left the Vampire Clan’s Holy Mountain and headed in another direction. Though the path was shrouded in darkness, it was a shortcut back to the Divine Land. As for his dealings with Heather, Ye Fan felt unsettled, unsure of what to make of it all.
In the dead of night, as Ye Fan hurried along, he suddenly heard a wolf’s howl. He was instantly shocked. The howl was bizarre and loud, and mixed within it was the sound of a human voice. This was no ordinary wolf. Just as he was about to climb a tree to investigate, two wolves leaped down from the branches above and pounced on him.
Two tyrannical flashes of Sword Qi slashed down, slicing the wolves in half. They collapsed to the ground, lifeless. When Ye Fan saw the corpses, he was stunned.
"The Werewolf Clan," Ye Fan breathed.
Wolf-headed and human-bodied, they stood over four meters tall with powerful builds. The Werewolves’ physical strength was terrifyingly formidable; it was unlikely any other race or faction could match their raw power. No wonder there was an era in vampire history when they were nearly annihilated by the Werewolves.
What puzzled him was that this was Vampire Clan territory. What were Werewolves doing here? He was certain the two he had just killed were Werewolf scouts. Are the Werewolves planning a surprise attack on the Vampire Clan?
Feeling uncertain, Ye Fan continued through the night. He quickly lost count of the Werewolf Scouts he had slain, as it seemed there was at least one every ten kilometers.
He arrived at Prince Bao Feng’s castle, only to find the prince’s head already mounted high on the wall. Scores of Werewolf Warriors were patrolling the ramparts.
Ye Fan sucked in a sharp breath. He had assumed the Werewolves were still weakened after being grievously wounded by the Vampire Clan, but now even Prince Bao Feng’s head had been taken. This meant the Werewolves’ strength had recovered significantly. Their ambitions this time were enormous!
I can’t stay in this dark forest for long. An earth-shattering battle is bound to break out here soon! Ye Fan thought. This was a showdown that belonged to the Werewolves and the Vampire Clan alone.
He prepared to leave this land of conflict, wanting no part in the war between these two races. He moved to leave, but his gaze drifted toward the Vampire Clan’s Holy Mountain. Would it be unethical to leave now? Despite the friction between him and Heather, he knew that if he left, the completely unaware Vampire Clan would suffer a devastating blow from the Werewolves.
The Vampire Clan was powerful, but Heather had yet to recover her strength. As for the slumbering Cain Ancestor, Ye Fan was convinced he was long dead. It was a true dilemma: should he leave or stay?
A voice in his head told him, Forget it. My entanglement with the Vampire Clan is complicated, but this isn’t my business! Better not to stir up trouble!
But another voice countered, Ye Fan, you can’t be so heartless. You have to help! Who knows, the Vampire Clan—and Heather—could become your greatest allies in the future!
The two thoughts warred within him. Ye Fan shook his head violently. He made his decision: he would help.
Just then, a massive Wolf Fang Club plummeted from the sky. Ye Fan dodged just in time.
BANG!
The Wolf Fang Club struck the ground and exploded, blasting out a crater twenty meters deep and nearly a hundred meters wide. Ye Fan sucked in another sharp breath.
At that moment, a rustling erupted from the nearby forest. He was surrounded.
The Werewolf that stepped forward was five meters tall and clad in heavy armor. He had a solid, powerful build and was clearly a Werewolf expert.
Ye Fan said, "Your fight is with the Vampire Clan. Don’t involve me; I’m just passing through!"
But the Werewolf sneered, "We Werewolves do as we please and fear no one. It doesn’t matter who you are. Now that you’ve discovered our secret, you’ll be staying here forever!"
"Dinner has arrived, boys!" the Werewolf Commander bellowed. "I imagine this kid’s meat is much tastier than the cold flesh of those vampires. Go on! Whoever kills him gets to eat him!"
Instantly, a horde of Werewolves howled and charged.
Ye Fan’s expression turned grim.
"Returning to the Sect Sword!"
His blade, long poised to strike, fell and shattered the encircling Werewolves. When the dust settled, Ye Fan was gone.
"Damn it! Stop that cunning bastard! If he gets away, our plan will be exposed!"
"Yes, Commander!"
Relying on their keen sense of smell, a pack of Werewolves gave chase. Ye Fan led them on a wild chase all night, but he couldn’t shake them. Their natural tracking abilities were on full display.
Ye Fan knew the situation was dire. He hid in a large tree. When a Werewolf squad passed below, his sword descended instantly. The Sword Qi tore the squad apart, erupting in a spray of blood.
Ye Fan prepared to leave, but in the next instant, he felt a powerful force bearing down on him.
Damn it, above me!
Ye Fan reacted instantly, only to see the Werewolf Commander already smashing down upon him from overhead.
