Chapter 1072: Chapter 1071: Strange
Forget it, forget it, let’s not talk about this anymore. What shall we eat today?" Ba Lv mentioned food with excitement: "Eating fast food in the spaceship every day, I’m sick of it." She pulled Yanran: "Let’s go out to eat, shall we?"
Yanran shook her head, wanting to say something, when someone knocked on the door.
The two exchanged a glance. Even if they had acquaintances on Ulda Planet, they had just arrived and couldn’t have been discovered so quickly.
"Be careful." Yanran reminded Ba Lv.
Yanran had always been cautious, and now that they were encountering an unknown situation, it was never a bad idea to be careful.
Seeing Ba Lv nod, Yanran then walked over.
"Who is it?" Yanran asked.
"Miss, I’m the manager of the hotel. There is someone in the lobby downstairs who wishes to meet you.
This is strange. Yanran and Ba Lv exchanged another look. They had no acquaintances on this planet.
For someone to want to meet them now was indeed peculiar.
Yanran spoke up: "Got it, thank you, Mr. Manager. We will be right down." With a hint of curiosity, the two of them headed to the hotel’s main hall.
In the lobby, seated on a sofa, was someone they didn’t recognize, who promptly stood up when he saw them approaching.
Yanran and Ba Lv didn’t know what to say, as they truly didn’t know this person.
The person spoke up: "Hello, ladies. Let me introduce myself first. I’m the steward of the Dalken Family. Our master would like to invite you two to come over to the house for a moment and have a meal together."
His speech was refined and courteous, which somewhat eased Yanran and Ba Lv’s concerns.
However, his request left them feeling puzzled. They didn’t know each other. What was the point of having a meal together?
"Mr. Steward, we appreciate the kind offer, but as for the meal, we’ll pass." Yanran replied, "Please, forgive my question, but we don’t know the gentleman you mentioned, do we?"
"That, I don’t know, Miss. You know, we servants are not at liberty to ask about the master’s affairs." The steward replied with a smile.
However, if you two could visit the household, he would likely be greatly honored.
The steward continued to smile. Seeing that Yanran had yet to respond, he handed over a business card: "This is my master’s card. Please discuss it, and I shall wait outside for your decision."
The steward bowed slightly and walked out.
Yanran and Ba Lv examined the business card repeatedly. They really couldn’t understand why the Dalken people would invite them for a meal out of nowhere.
The hotel manager standing nearby couldn’t help but ask: "You two ladies aren’t from our Ulda Planet, are you?"
Yanran and Ba Lv nodded, looking at the hotel manager, knowing that if he was speaking up, he surely had more to say.
Indeed, the hotel manager, seeing their interest, continued: "Mr. Dalken is one of the top merchants on our planet; his business is quite extensive.
"But, as you heard, we don’t even know him," Ba Lv replied to him.
"Well, while I also don’t know why Mr. Dalken invited you, it is certainly a rare opportunity. So my advice is, regardless of the matter, it wouldn’t hurt for the two ladies to visit them."
The hotel manager finished his speech.
Having a Dalken Family steward visit them and invite Yanran and Ba Lv to a banquet suddenly seemed very puzzling to them.
They were unfamiliar with Mr. Dalken who was reputed to be a big businessman, and they were just passing through this planet; they really didn’t want any additional complications.
So they made up their minds to ask the hotel manager to convey to the steward still waiting outside that they would not be visiting the master’s house.
Although the hotel manager found it a pity, he still conveyed Yanran’s instructions truthfully to the steward waiting outside.
Yanran and Ba Lv returned to their room, with Ba Lv suddenly remembering something.
She exclaimed, "Ah."
The sound startled Yanran, and she raised her head to look at Ba Lv.
"Could this Mister Dalken be the elder of that young man who wants to buy our spaceship?"
Yanran clapped her hands, saying, "Exactly! This must be connected."
"A top merchant must indeed be wealthy. No wonder that kid had such a big attitude; turns out he’s a rich second generation," Ba Lv sighed.
"Having money doesn’t solve everything," Yanran said. "Even if we’re not discussing whether we’ll sell, if he knows where we got that spaceship from, he’d definitely think thrice."
"Exactly, having money is no big deal. Miss Ba Lv is also wealthy," Ba Lv pretended to act like a noble lady.
Yanran laughed, "Even though you have money, judging by the hotel manager’s tone, you surely can’t compare with that Mister Dalken."
The two joked and laughed for a while, but the rumbling in their stomachs reminded them they had forgotten to eat lunch through this little interlude.
"Come on, let’s eat. My treat," Ba Lv said, pulling Yanran by the hand, and the two of them walked out of the hotel.
However, what they didn’t expect was that the steward from the Dalken Family was still standing there beside the gate.
Yanran walked up and asked, "Excuse me, Mr. Steward, didn’t we ask the hotel manager to tell you we’re declining the invitation?"
The steward smiled wryly, "Before I left, my master repeatedly urged that I must ask you two to meet him. Now that you have declined, I—it’s hard for me to go back like this."
This guise of hardship was something Yanran and Ba Lv had never seen firsthand, but they’d certainly heard of it. Since the steward chose to stand there, he might as well keep standing.
This sort of indirect coercion was something Yanran and Ba Lv wouldn’t take to heart.
Happily, they went for their lunch. Ba Lv even wanted to go to the street, but Yanran was worried Jiang Cheng might be anxiously waiting. She talked her out of it with considerable effort.
When they returned to the hotel, the steward was still standing there.
Yanran, after all, was a bit soft-hearted and stepped up to the steward, saying, "Mr. Steward, we’ve made it very clear. Please head back."
Ba Lv added from the side, "Mr. Steward, we’re just passing through. We’ll be leaving this afternoon. Standing here won’t do you any good. Please go back." The steward smiled, but said nothing.
Yanran and Ba Lv had said everything that needed to be said, but the steward was so stubborn there was nothing more they could do.
As soon as they walked into the hotel lobby, a burly middle-aged man, with a ruddy complexion, greeted them with a hearty laugh. Looking at Yanran and Ba Lv, he laughed, "Well, since you two ladies declined to visit my humble abode for a meal, I had no choice but to pay you a personal visit. Please don’t take offense."
The person in front of them was indeed the master of the steward outside, the successful businessman, Mr. Dalken.
He seemed authentic, judging by the respectful demeanor of the hotel manager standing beside him.
