Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Hundred-Year Medicine King
The higher the jade’s grade, the stronger the protective charm’s force.
That’s exactly why I had to get my hands on this jade piece.
"Seven million!" Someone quickly upped the bid.
Without hesitation, I called out, "Eight million!"
"Nine million!" Right then, a young man in the front row spoke coldly.
I turned to look at him - he had sharp, cold features. An old man and a middle-aged guy flanked him.
I sent out my qi, trying to feel out how strong these two were.
The moment my qi was about to reach the young man, it got sliced clean off, like something had cut right through it!
My expression shifted instantly. I quickly looked at the old man, who was staring right back at me.
A chilly grin crossed the old man’s face, his gaze even icier.
"This old guy’s definitely a master," I thought.
Having my qi severed like that - this was a first for me!
This man’s power was probably way beyond what I’d expected!
"What’s wrong?" Mabel Sean whispered beside me.
I shook my head. "Nothing."
Then I lifted my paddle and shouted, "Ten million!"
The young man up front scowled, clearly annoyed by what I’d done.
He paused, then raised his paddle again. "Twenty million!"
The crowd let out shocked gasps!
Sure, the ice-seed jade was top quality, but it definitely wasn’t worth that much!
Dropping twenty million on a rock - that’s crazy!
"Thirty million!" While I was still thinking it over, Mabel Sean suddenly raised her paddle.
"Miss Sean, you..." I started to say something, but Mabel Sean pressed a finger to my lips.
"Don’t worry about it. Doesn’t matter which one of us spends the money, but you’ll have to pay yours back, so you should save where you can." She gave me a wink.
Mabel Sean stopped for a beat, then whispered in my ear, "I’ve been secretly stashing away pocket money - about five billion!"
I stared at her blankly, then couldn’t help but chuckle.
If Mabel could save up five billion in pocket money, just how loaded was the Sean Family...
Up front.
The young man looked pretty ticked off. Obviously, he really wanted that jade too.
Just as the young man was about to raise his paddle, the old man beside him shook his head. "Young Master Colton, that jade isn’t our target. We need to save our strength for now."
The guy they called Young Master Colton took a deep breath, swallowed his anger, and nodded.
"Congratulations to Mr. Raymond for successfully winning the ice-seed jade pendant at thirty million!" the auctioneer announced.
After the jade auction, I kept glancing over at Young Master Colton not far away.
Something about this young man felt off to me, especially the old man next to him - I couldn’t read his true strength at all.
"Miss Sean, do you know that young man?" I pointed toward Young Master Colton and asked.
Mabel Sean looked forward and shook her head. "Never seen him. Why?"
"Just feels like he’s not ordinary." I muttered.
"Maybe I’m reading too much into it." I brushed it off.
The auction kept going.
The next items were mostly antiques, which didn’t interest me.
Finally, when they got to the sixteenth item, the auctioneer brought out a glass case.
Inside sat a ginseng root. The ginseng looked smooth and shiny - really good quality.
"Our next item is a Hundred-Year Ginseng King. Starting bid is thirty million, minimum increase is one million!" the auctioneer called out.
Once they revealed the item, the whole place got fired up.
"Thirty-one million!"
"Thirty-six million!"
"Forty million!"
"..."
All these rich folks wanted that ginseng. For them, staying healthy was everything, and a hundred-year ginseng might save their life when it mattered most.
"Isn’t this what you’re after? Why aren’t you bidding?" Mabel Sean asked, confused.
I shook my head seriously. "This ginseng might be called the Hundred-Year Medicine King, but its healing power dried up long ago. As for its qi... it’s pathetically weak, barely better than some random weed."
While I talked, I kept watching Young Master Colton up front.
Besides bidding on that ice-seed jade, Young Master Colton hadn’t said a word. His focus was intense - he might be here for herbs too.
What worried me more was that Young Master Colton wasn’t saying anything about this hundred-year ginseng either.
"Looks like this guy knows his stuff too," I thought.
That made me uneasy. Having competition meant spending way more money.
"Congratulations to Mr. Gordon for winning the Hundred-Year Ginseng King at one hundred eighty million!" the auctioneer suddenly shouted.
I frowned slightly.
A piece of ginseng with no healing power left just sold for almost two hundred million. How crazy would the real Medicine King’s price get?
"Cultivation really burns through money," I sighed to myself.
"Next up, we have our featured item," the auctioneer said from the stage.
He waved his hand, and two people carefully brought up a wooden box.
Then the auctioneer smiled and said, "This is wild knotweed that one of our guests stumbled across on a mountain. Starting bid is one billion, minimum increase is ten million!"
Then he slowly opened the box.
Inside lay a knotweed that was nearly dead.
This knotweed looked absolutely terrible, no different from roadside weeds.
"Are they nuts? Selling worthless grass for two billion?"
"Only an idiot would buy that! The vegetables I pull from my garden are better than that piece of grass!"
"Hell, forget twenty million - I wouldn’t take it for two thousand!"
People in the crowd started mocking it, clearly annoyed.
But I was locked onto that knotweed! My eyes nearly bulged out!
Besides me, Young Master Colton in the front row was also staring at it hungrily, totally excited!
"Young Master Colton, this knotweed is at least two hundred years old," the old man beside him said.
Young Master Colton narrowed his eyes. "This knotweed... I have to have it!"
