Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Growing Soft-hearted

I couldn’t help but sink into deep thought.

Sitting in the car, I stayed quiet for a long time, my face blank and lost.

"Is this what a big family looks like? Even my best strength means nothing..." I whispered to myself.

The Sean family’s power was beyond imagination.

At least... it was way more than I’d expected.

"Let’s get out." Mabel whispered in my ear.

I hesitated, looking up at Mabel with conflicted feelings.

Mabel... how did she even fall for me in the first place...

"Get out of the car." Mabel said with a smile.

I nodded and followed Mabel out.

Not far off, Soren Sean was talking to someone.

Big shots from Shiglance City were apologizing left and right, scared of pissing off the powerful man.

Right then, Jasper Thompson walked over.

"Mr. Sean, I’m sorry." Jasper sighed.

"I didn’t think things would blow up like this."

Soren Sean looked at Jasper and said slowly, "The Old Man... he’s really pissed. You know Mabel is his favorite granddaughter."

Jasper’s face went pale.

The Old Man he mentioned was obviously Jerry Sean, the real head of the Sean family.

"Mr. Sean, I’ll head to Capital City in a few days to explain everything to the Old Man," Jasper Thompson sighed.

Soren didn’t say anything more and walked toward the car.

"Mabel, get in the car," Soren Sean suddenly called to Mabel when he got to the car.

Mabel looked at me and said, "Don’t overthink it. You did amazing."

After that, Mabel walked toward Soren.

I quickly reached out and grabbed Mabel’s hand, my face hard to read.

"What’s wrong?" Mabel asked with a smile.

I opened my mouth and said, "Where are you going?"

"Silly, my dad’s here, of course I have to see him," Mabel said with a smile.

"Alright, you go find somewhere to crash tonight, and I’ll call you tomorrow," Mabel stood on her toes and gently patted my head.

After that, Mabel walked toward Soren again.

Both of them got in the car, and my eyes stayed glued to their car.

Soren’s car slowly drove past me.

Right then, the car window rolled down.

I saw Soren staring at me coldly.

This powerful vibe made even me feel uncomfortable.

Just one look gave off a feeling that people didn’t dare fight back.

My eyes met Soren’s, staring right at him without looking away.

The car finally passed me and sped off into the distance.

I stood there, clenching my fists tight, my heart all mixed up.

——

In the car.

Soren Sean lit a cigar, with Mabel sitting next to him.

"You can’t even handle something this simple? What good are you?" Soren looked coldly at Mabel’s secretary.

The secretary’s face immediately showed panic.

He quickly said, "Mr. Sean, it’s my fault... Please punish me."

"Punishment?" Soren’s tone got even colder.

"If something had happened to my daughter, what would you use to make up for it?"

The secretary shook all over, not daring to say another word.

Soren kept smoking the cigar until it was done.

"Javon, throw those useless guys who were supposed to protect Mabel this time into the river," Soren said coldly.

Hearing this, the secretary looked terrified.

He desperately begged, "Mr. Sean, please spare me this time, give me a chance to make up for it..."

"Make up for it?" Soren’s face got even colder.

Angrily, he said, "If something happened to my daughter, not even a hundred of you could make up for it! You still dare ask me to spare you?"

The secretary shook with fear, tears and snot running down his face, looking pathetic.

"Dad, it’s not their fault. Don’t scare them," Mabel Sean said, rolling her eyes.

Soren took a deep breath and said, "No, your grandfather knows about this, and he’s pissed."

"Enough!" Mabel said, getting annoyed.

"I told you, it has nothing to do with them! They didn’t do anything wrong! Why should they get punished?"

Mabel frowned and said, "Besides, I told them to protect Mason."

Soren Sean opened his mouth and thought for a moment, then said, "They can avoid death, but not punishment. Send them to Africa to mine."

"No!" Mabel still fought back.

"They didn’t do anything wrong, so they shouldn’t get punished," she explained.

This surprised Soren a little.

He looked at Mabel curiously and said, "Mabel, you’ve gotten so soft-hearted since we last met."

Rolling her eyes, Mabel said, "Anyway, I said no, and that’s final! If you don’t listen to me, I’ll go find grandpa!"

Hearing this, Soren couldn’t help but shake his head helplessly.

"Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you. Is that good enough?" Soren Sean seemed somewhat troubled.

The secretary breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat off his forehead. Turning to Mabel, he said, "Thank you, Miss, for speaking up for me."

Mabel glanced at the secretary and said coldly, "Maybe you should thank Mason instead."

The secretary was stunned, looking confused.

But soon he got it.

He couldn’t help but smile and whispered, "That’s right, maybe I should really thank Mason Raymond."

Mabel had changed a lot since she met Mason.

If it were the old Mabel, she wouldn’t speak up for anyone, let alone be this soft-hearted now.

"Pack up in the next few days, I’ll take you back to Capital City," Soren suddenly said.

Hearing this, Mabel immediately shook her head and said, "No, I don’t want to go back to Capital City!"

"Mabel! You have to go back this time!" Soren frowned.

"After something like this happened, the whole Sean family is worried about you!"

"If you stay in River City and something happens, your grandpa might tear River City apart!"

Despite what he said, Mabel kept refusing. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"I don’t want to go back to Capital City! This was just an accident!" Mabel insisted stubbornly.

"If it really doesn’t work, just send more people to protect me," Mabel huffed.
