Chapter 844: Chapter 844 A Terrible Last Hope
The Mystic Realm wasn’t huge, so I didn’t take long to reach the spot marked on the map.
I looked around - the place was completely barren.
No trees anywhere, and even the rocks had worn away from weathering, making it look like wasteland.
I crouched down, copying what the mustached guy had done, running my hands over the earth and feeling every bit of dirt.
This was going to take forever since I had to stay completely focused. One moment of lost concentration could mean missing something important, so I needed patience.
——
Meanwhile, in a chamber within the Palace, Saumel Baton’s face was dark with anger.
Two old men stood beside him silently, waiting for Saumel’s command.
"Damn it! Are we just going to let Mason Raymond walk away!" Saumel Baton ground his teeth in fury.
"What exactly did this kid do to make you so pissed off?" one of the old men asked.
Saumel Baton glanced at him, let out a breath, and said, "I’m not being petty here. I want him dead because I can feel the danger he represents."
"Danger?" The man beside him looked surprised.
Saumel Baton nodded. "Yeah. If this kid reaches the Martial Saint level, probably nobody in the Mystic Realm could stop him!"
"And knowing what I know about him, he’ll definitely bring down the Baton Family!"
The man beside him laughed. "Connor, aren’t you overthinking this? No Martial Saints have shown up in this age - you know that, right?"
Saumel Baton’s voice turned icy: "But word is he’s going to change all that."
"Lots of people are saying that next year, the age without Martial Saints will be over."
Hearing this, the two Martial Saints still weren’t taking it seriously.
"So what if he becomes a Martial Saint? He’d just be a newbie Martial Saint - won’t be tough to take him out."
Saumel shook his head. "No, this kid is different."
"When he hit the Military Marquis level, he was basically unbeatable at that stage. If he makes it to Martial Saint, who knows what’ll happen."
After Saumel’s explanation, the two old men said: "There are plenty of ways to kill him, and what can Claude Avalynn really do to stop us? I don’t buy that he can keep two Martial Saints babysitting the kid forever."
Saumel frowned. "But... picking a fight with the Avalynn Family isn’t smart."
"Connor, Claude Avalynn doesn’t give a damn about our Baton Family, so why should we show him any respect?"
"Even the Greer Family - the Avalynn Family won’t start trouble with our Baton Family over some dead guy, will they?"
That comment hit home for Saumel Baton.
He rubbed his chin and said quietly, "You’ve got a point! Find Mason Raymond’s location fast and kill him!"
"Done." The two Martial Saints nodded and headed into the Palace.
But after searching the whole Palace, they came up empty.
"Hmph, let’s see where you can run." One of the Martial Saints sneered.
As he spoke, he spread out his divine sense, hunting for Mason Raymond.
Being a Martial Saint, his divine sense was incredibly strong, covering almost the entire Mystic Realm!
So he located Mason Raymond pretty quickly.
"That way." The old man pointed in a direction.
Saumel Baton said coldly, "Let’s go find him!"
——
Right then, I was still carefully feeling around on the ground.
My eyes were half-closed, trying to sense anything weird in every inch of soil.
I had no clue that trouble was heading my way.
"Huh?"
Suddenly, my eyebrows shot up.
My palm felt something cold.
I didn’t hesitate - jumped to my feet, made a fist wrapped in Golden Light, and slammed it into the ground.
"Boom!"
That one punch sent dust flying everywhere!
The ground caved in several inches!
A huge round disc suddenly appeared right in front of me!
The disc had complex designs carved into it, and several paper-like seals were stuck on top!
"Is this... some kind of seal?" I was pretty shocked.
What the hell was this disc keeping locked up?
Could it be the dark energy?
"Shit, please don’t tell me there’s a monster sealed in there..." I muttered.
If it was sealing some Guardian like those two male corpses, we’d be screwed.
Everyone would probably die here.
"Screw it, whatever!" I gritted my teeth.
Whatever was in there, I’d just break the seal first.
"Mason Raymond, so you actually made it here!"
Right then, a voice came from behind me.
I spun around and saw Saumel Baton with two Martial Saints staring at me coldly.
My heart dropped - this felt really bad.
"Saumel Baton, what are you doing here?" I tried to keep my cool.
Connor laughed coldly. "What, Claude Avalynn didn’t send anyone to watch your back?"
I stayed quiet, giving them a suspicious look.
"Hahaha! I thought Claude Avalynn really had your back, but he showed up once and vanished?" Saumel Baton chuckled.
I said coldly, "What do you want?"
"What do we want? We want you dead, obviously!" Saumel Baton said with a nasty expression.
The two Martial Saints immediately started moving toward me.
My heart sank and my face went grim.
Against two Martial Saints, forget about winning - I wouldn’t even get a chance to fight back!
"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath, then looked back at the disc.
Before, I was worried about what kind of monster might be sealed in the disc. Now though, I was hoping there was some terrifying thing inside it!
With that thought, I raised my fist and hammered it down hard on the disc!
"Boom!"
The moment I hit it, the round disc exploded!
Then a beam of light shot up from the disc, floating in the air!
Looking closer, it was a bead like a golden core, hanging there.
Along with it came a thread of dark energy.
"Shit! It’s not a monster after all!" I suddenly got a really bad feeling!
Saumel Baton was also staring at the bead, asking confused, "What is that thing?"
"Connor, let’s kill this kid first, then we can figure it out later," one of the Martial Saints suggested.
"Right, let’s do it!" Saumel Baton said coldly.
Not wasting any more time, the Martial Saint charged straight at me.
