Chapter 786: Chapter 786 One Thing I Need
Tilda Maxwayne pushed open the door and headed straight toward me.
She beamed and said, "Mason, we’re really grateful this time. Things could’ve gone terribly wrong without you."
"Just doing what’s right," I nodded.
"How’s Mr. Maxwayne doing now?"
Tilda Maxwayne answered, "Dad’s fine. He wants you to stay for dinner."
I didn’t think twice and said yes right away.
We both stepped out of the room and headed deeper into the Maxwayne Family Manor.
A fancy dinner was already laid out in the villa’s main hall.
Servants stood at attention on both sides of the table.
Mr. Maxwayne took the head seat, with his three kids sitting on either side.
"Dad, Mason’s here," Tilda Maxwayne led me over to Mr. Maxwayne.
Mr. Maxwayne gestured at me, looking a bit shocked. "Didn’t think you’d be this young."
I greeted him, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Maxwayne."
Mr. Maxwayne grinned and pointed to a chair. "Come on, take a seat."
I didn’t hesitate and picked a spot to sit.
A servant right away filled my glass with wine.
"Mason, we really owe you big time. Dad could’ve been in serious trouble if you hadn’t helped," Herman Maxwayne lifted his glass.
Even though I felt a little uncomfortable, I still picked up my glass and clinked it with Herman Maxwayne’s.
During dinner, Tilda Maxwayne kept singing my praises, sharing all the nice things the Lord Pavilion Master had said about me.
Once we finished eating, Mr. Maxwayne said, "Mason, you saved my life. Whatever you want, just name it."
"Absolutely! Money, women, herbs - just say the word!" Herman Maxwayne jumped in.
I considered it for a bit, then looked directly at Mr. Maxwayne and said seriously, "I don’t want any of that stuff. There’s only one thing I need."
"What is it?" Mr. Maxwayne nodded.
"I want the Power of Martial Saint," I said.
The words hit the room like a bomb. Everything went dead quiet.
Everyone exchanged worried looks.
"No," Mr. Maxwayne said icily.
"The Power of Martial Saint keeps our Maxwayne family going. It matters more than my own life!" Mr. Maxwayne’s face darkened.
Herman Maxwayne quickly said, "Mason Raymond, pick something else. We’ll give you anything except the Power of Martial Saint."
I said firmly, "I’ll be straight with you - I came to the Maxwayne Family specifically for the Power of Martial Saint. Nothing else interests me."
When he heard this, Mr. Maxwayne banged his fist on the table and shot to his feet!
He yelled, "You’ll never get the Power of Martial Saint! Drop that crazy idea!"
Then Mr. Maxwayne waved his hand and said, "Give him some cash and show him out!"
Tilda Maxwayne looked worried too. She whispered to me, "Mason, please change what you’re asking for."
I shook my head. "Mrs. Maxwayne, besides the Power of Martial Saint, I can’t think of anything else I want."
Herman Maxwayne pulled out a bank card and said, "There’s ten million yuan here. It’s yours."
I glanced at it, pushed the bank card away, and shook my head. "Money’s not something I need."
"That’s your call!" Mr. Maxwayne said coldly.
Seeing how things were going, I sighed inside.
Getting the Power of Martial Saint wasn’t going to be simple after all.
The Maxwayne Family wasn’t like the rich Capital City Martial Arts Association.
For old families like this, the Power of Martial Saint was everything.
They’d only use it if their whole family was about to be wiped out.
Just minutes ago, everyone at the table was friendly and warm. Now the air felt freezing.
I slowly got up, planning to say my goodbyes.
Right then, two guys suddenly burst in from outside.
Both were built like tanks with intimidating presence, and their faces looked mean - clearly not people you’d want to mess with.
"Who the hell are you!" Herman Maxwayne jumped up and shouted angrily.
These two guys smirked and said, "We’re with the Purple Flame Sect."
When they heard "Purple Flame Sect," everyone’s faces went a little pale.
The two men walked right up to the dining table and sat down, then asked casually, "Who runs things around here?"
Mr. Maxwayne breathed in deeply and was about to answer, but Herman Maxwayne stood up and said, "That’d be me. What do you want?"
"Hah." The Purple Flame Sect guys grabbed some meat and shoved it in their mouths.
While chewing, they said, "One of our Purple Flame Sect people got killed in your Maxwayne family territory. We figure you owe us some answers about this mess."
"Your people?" Herman Maxwayne’s brow creased right away.
My face went tense too.
I was the one who killed those two Purple Flame Sect members.
"I killed those two," I stood up and said.
"You want payback, come after me."
When they heard this, the two Purple Flame Sect guys couldn’t help but frown.
They looked at each other, then asked, "Kid, what’s your connection to the Maxwayne family?"
I replied, "None. I just came here to treat Mr. Maxwayne."
This made the two men frown even more.
"Ha, doesn’t matter if you’re connected to the Maxwayne family or not. Someone got hurt on Maxwayne family ground. The Purple Flame Sect wants the Maxwayne family to answer for it," they said coldly.
"And you? We’re definitely not letting you slide."
I was about to speak when Herman Maxwayne cut me off and said, "What exactly do you want?"
The two men stood up, stretched like they owned the place, and said with a sly grin, "Our Sect Master says if your family agrees to serve under the Purple Flame Sect, we can forget this whole thing."
"If not... we won’t go easy on anyone or anything!"
Herman Maxwayne said coldly, "Don’t you think that’s pushing it? From what I know, it was your Purple Flame Sect people who came to our Maxwayne family looking for trouble, so..."
"Cut the crap." The two men got annoyed and waved their hands.
"You’ve got three days to decide. If you don’t choose by then, our Sect Master won’t give you another shot!"
After dropping those words, the two men walked out.
Watching them leave, I couldn’t help but frown. "This is on me. I killed them. I’ll handle the consequences."
But Herman Maxwayne shook his head. "This isn’t your fault. The Purple Flame Sect clearly has it out for our Maxwayne family. They’re just using this as an excuse to come at us."
