Chapter 78: Chapter 78 - Mercy Betrayed
Victor moved with lightning speed. Just as John’s fist was about to connect with Jaiden’s face, I watched Victor effortlessly deflect it, causing the punch to miss by mere inches.
The massive fist grazed past Jaiden’s cheek.
The powerful wind generated by John’s punch swept away the sweat on Jaiden’s face.
John turned to Victor with furrowed brows and growled, "You wanna die?"
Victor massaged his knuckles and smirked, "Our Mr. Raymond said he doesn’t like you."
Surprise flashed across John’s face before he erupted in laughter. "Not liking me? Do I look like I give a damn if you like me? Just wait till I finish this brat, then you’re next!"
Victor’s cold chuckle cut through the air as he stared John down. "From now on, your opponent is me."
With that declaration, Victor pushed Jaiden backward.
Jaiden’s face drained of color. He glanced at me anxiously, shaking his head. "Mr. Raymond, this whole situation started because of me. I can’t let your friend get hurt on my behalf!"
"Don’t worry," I reassured him with a smile.
"For Victor Green, dealing with him is like stepping on an ant," I added.
Disbelief was written all over Jaiden’s face.
John stood almost two meters tall, built like a small mountain.
Meanwhile, Jaiden appeared so fragile that a strong wind might carry him away.
The difference between them was astronomical.
Jaiden’s anxiety visibly increased as he pleaded, "Mr. Raymond, I appreciate your kindness, but I, Jaiden Nick, cannot allow someone else to suffer consequences meant for me!"
After saying this, he shouted at John, "Enough talk, John! If you’ve got the guts, come at me!"
John snorted dismissively. "What, both of you in such a rush to die? Too bad, I’ve changed my mind."
Turning his cold gaze to Victor, John stated, "This runt is insulting me. I’ve decided to break every bone in his body first!"
"Go to hell, Nathan! Attack me if you dare, you bastard!" Jaiden shouted defiantly.
John’s expression hardened as his patience evaporated.
"Fine, I’ll crush you first," John glared at Jaiden and swung his massive fist with landslide force.
Jaiden shut his eyes, his face showing remarkable courage as he awaited the impact.
Several seconds passed without John’s fist connecting.
Confused, Jaiden opened his eyes to see Victor firmly gripping John’s fist mid-air.
"I told you, I’m your opponent. Don’t you understand basic English?" Victor said icily.
John struggled with all his might but couldn’t break Victor’s hold!
Alarm and fury contorted John’s face as he nearly roared, "You’re asking for death!"
He threw his other fist toward Victor, who caught it just as effortlessly.
"That all you’ve got?" Victor taunted, mockery evident in his expression.
Everyone watching stood dumbfounded.
Could this slender man really possess such strength? Catching John Nathan’s punches like they were nothing?
"Victor, stop playing around," I frowned and called out.
"Yes, Mr. Raymond," Victor nodded obediently. In one fluid motion, he leaped upward and delivered a devastating kick to John’s head!
With the kick delivered, Victor turned and walked away.
John’s enormous body remained upright for a split second before crashing to the ground like a fallen tree!
The thunderous impact drew countless onlookers’ attention!
Security personnel from the Underground Boxing Ring rushed to the scene.
John lay unconscious on the ground.
Jaiden stared at Victor with undisguised shock, swallowing hard.
Victor possessed such incredible skills? One kick had rendered John unconscious?
I alone saw the true force behind Victor’s kick.
That strike had contained Victor’s full strength. Even if John woke up, he’d likely suffer permanent brain damage.
"John!" Molly hurried to his side, desperately trying to shake him awake.
But John remained motionless, resembling a corpse.
"Mr. Raymond, what should we do with the woman?" Victor approached and asked me.
I glanced at him and replied, "Ask Jaiden."
Victor immediately turned to Jaiden.
Conflicting emotions played across Jaiden’s face. Despite his hatred for Molly, compassion seemed to win out.
"Just leave it," Jaiden shook his head. "We loved each other once. Let’s just go."
I couldn’t help but sigh.
"Jaiden, think carefully. Even if you show mercy, she might not appreciate it," I cautioned him.
Jaiden forced a bitter smile. "Mr. Raymond, I’m grateful your friend stood up for me, but... let’s just drop this."
I didn’t press further.
Kind-hearted people often have soft spots that make them vulnerable to exploitation.
Clearly, Jaiden hadn’t learned this lesson yet.
"Let’s go," Jaiden rose to his feet.
I nodded, ready to leave, when Molly’s voice rang out, "All of you, stay right there!"
Just as I had predicted, Molly showed no gratitude toward Jaiden’s mercy.
My expression remained unchanged. Everything was unfolding exactly as I had expected.
"See, the consequences of a soft heart arrive right on schedule," I shook my head helplessly.
