Chapter 72: Chapter 72 - Office Showdown
Manager Seth lit a cigarette and shot a displeased look at Jaiden Nick.
"Jaiden, I only gave your cousin this opportunity because of your friend," Manager Seth remarked with obvious sarcasm.
"Yes, yes, Manager Seth, I understand completely," Jaiden Nick nodded repeatedly in agreement.
Manager Seth continued, "But your cousin shows absolutely no respect, huh? Getting her to join me for dinner is like pulling teeth!"
Hearing his words, I couldn’t help but curse inwardly.
Even a complete idiot could see through this man’s intentions!
Jaiden Nick laughed awkwardly, "Manager Seth, my cousin is just an honest girl. If you’re looking for entertainment tonight, I can arrange something else to ensure you’re satisfied..."
"Go to hell!" Manager Seth angrily flung his cigarette at Jaiden Nick.
"What garbage are you spewing, Nick? Am I short on money or something?" Manager Seth’s face turned cold.
Jaiden Nick stood frozen in extreme awkwardness. Despite his obvious anger, he didn’t dare fight back.
"Jaiden Nick, let’s be clear—I want to have fun with your cousin! And I’m determined to make it happen!" Manager Seth sneered.
Jessica Pauley’s expression turned extremely grim. She looked worriedly toward Jaiden Nick.
I glanced at Jaiden, curious about how he would respond.
Jaiden Nick remained silent for a moment. Then, through clenched teeth, he said, "Manager Seth, we don’t need this job!"
With that, Jaiden walked over to Jessica and said, "Let’s go!"
"Stop!" Manager Seth barked with a sneer.
"I’ve decided I want this woman! If you leave now, you’ll lose more than just a job—you’ll make an enemy of me!" Manager Seth’s tone dripped with threat.
Hearing this, Jaiden’s face darkened further.
As Chuzzle Bank’s manager, Seth knew countless powerful businesspeople. If he targeted someone, it would take minimal effort!
"It’s not too late to reconsider," Manager Seth said flatly.
Jaiden Nick clenched his teeth, took a deep breath and said, "Manager Seth, if you want to come after someone, come after me. Leave my cousin out of this."
I nodded inwardly.
It seemed this Jaiden Nick was decent—at least not someone who’d sell out family for personal gain.
"Let’s go," Jessica Pauley whispered to me.
But I shook my head, grabbed Jessica’s arm, and asked, "Do you really want this job?"
Jessica forced a smile. "Of course. I’ve studied hard for years and finally earned my master’s degree. I never expected to face this kind of humiliation while job hunting..."
I sighed inwardly.
People like Manager Seth were making life increasingly difficult for young professionals.
I patted Jessica’s shoulder reassuringly. "Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you get your wish and join Chuzzle Bank."
"Enough with the empty boasting," Jaiden Nick snorted. "What kind of power could an outsider like you possibly have?"
I didn’t bother explaining. Instead, I walked directly toward Manager Seth and sat on his desk.
Manager Seth looked shocked, then shouted furiously, "Are you asking to die? Get off my desk now!"
I stared directly at him and stated calmly, "Apologize to my friend right now, then properly process her employment paperwork, and I’ll let this incident slide."
Hearing my words, Manager Seth burst out laughing. "Where did this fool come from? You’ll let it slide? Are you still dreaming?"
I sneered. "This is my final warning."
"I’ll warn your mother!" Without hesitation, Manager Seth swung his fist toward my face!
I raised my hand and with a sharp slapping sound, caught his fist mid-air, stopping it completely!
"You... let go of me now, or you’ll regret it!" Manager Seth said, panic creeping into his voice.
Jessica Pauley and Jaiden Nick quickly rushed over.
"Mason, please let go and let’s just leave?" Jessica pleaded anxiously.
Jaiden Nick forced a smile and said, "Manager Seth, my friend just arrived in Chuzzle and doesn’t know how things work here. Please... don’t hold it against him..."
Learning I’d just arrived in Chuzzle, Manager Seth grew even more confident.
He cursed loudly, "You dare challenge me? I promise you’ll regret this!"
"From today forward, don’t even think about surviving in Chuzzle!" he snarled.
Jessica and Jaiden’s expressions immediately fell into despair.
Jaiden angrily said, "If you want to ruin yourself, fine! Why drag us down with you?"
I slowly released Manager Seth’s hand and took out my phone, preparing to call Jack Schultz.
But to Manager Seth, it looked like I was backing down out of fear.
He immediately jabbed his finger toward my face and sneered, "Scared now? Too late! Even if you kneel and beg, I won’t spare you!"
I ignored him completely. Just as I was about to dial Jack Schultz’s number, my phone rang—it was Jack himself calling.
As soon as I answered, Jack said, "Mr. Raymond, I’m already at the office. When are you coming?"
I spoke deeply into the phone, "Mr. Schultz, I’m currently in your manager’s office. He’s harassing my friend and threatening to drive me out of Chuzzle."
Jack paused briefly, then hurriedly asked, "Mr. Raymond, which manager’s office are you in?"
"Manager Seth," I replied.
"Please wait there. I’m coming immediately," Jack said urgently.
