Chapter 70: Chapter 70 - Leverage Gained
Mrs. Schultz gazed around with confusion, her expression revealing she hadn’t fully grasped her situation yet.
"Mom, you’re awake!" Connor exclaimed, his face streaming with tears of joy as he broke down sobbing at the sight of his conscious mother.
Jack rushed over and wrapped his arms around his wife.
"Honey, you’re awake, that’s wonderful, that’s incredible..." The middle-aged man wept openly like a teenager, completely overcome with emotion.
Mrs. Schultz rubbed her forehead gently. After attempting to move her limbs, she gasped in surprise, "I...I don’t seem to be in pain anymore..."
"Really?!" Jack quickly wiped away his tears and said, "Honey, let me help you get out of bed!"
"No need." Mrs. Schultz raised her hand to stop him.
She climbed out of bed independently.
Perhaps due to her extended period of immobility, her steps appeared somewhat labored and heavy.
The father and son stayed close behind her, anxiously watching her every move in case she stumbled.
A few minutes later, Mrs. Schultz declared excitedly, "I’m really cured, truly!"
The family embraced tightly in a three-way hug.
Watching their reunion, I felt a wave of emotion wash over me. There’s something deeply touching about seeing a family reunited after hardship.
Jack suddenly remembered my presence.
He hurried over to where I stood and dropped to his knees with a thud.
"Mr. Raymond’s tremendous kindness, I, Jack Schultz, will remember for the rest of my days!" Jack proclaimed, his face flushed with gratitude.
"I was blind not to recognize greatness before me, please forgive me," Connor added as he too knelt down.
I quickly helped them both to their feet and laughed, "Mr. Schultz, there’s really no need for such formality."
"Mr. Raymond, thank you for saving my life," Mrs. Schultz approached and gave a slight bow.
I hastily returned the gesture with a warm smile.
"Mr. Raymond, don’t leave tonight. I’ll cook myself, and we’ll have drinks together!" Jack suggested enthusiastically.
Not wanting to dampen their celebratory mood, I nodded in agreement.
Not far from us, Matias Howe’s face darkened considerably. He clearly couldn’t believe I had successfully cured Mrs. Schultz.
"Where did this guy come from..." I could almost see the question forming in his mind.
Connor approached him with a cold expression and demanded, "Give my money back and get lost."
Matias smiled awkwardly. "Mr. Tenny, even though I didn’t cure the disease, you still used two bottles of my medicine, so this money..."
"Shut your fucking mouth!" Connor roared furiously.
"I’m already being nice not going after you," he added with an icy tone.
Left with no alternatives, Matias reluctantly returned the two million.
As night fell, Jack and Connor prepared a table full of delicious dishes.
Jack even brought out his collection of fine wines that he’d been saving for years and shared them with me.
After we’d finished three rounds of drinks, Jack looked at Connor and instructed, "Bring out the prepared gift."
"Okay," Connor nodded promptly.
Minutes later, Connor returned carrying a gift box.
Before even opening it, I caught the distinct aroma of herbs emanating from inside.
"This is..." I sniffed deeply, excitement building within me.
Jack explained, "Miss Sean mentioned you have an interest in herbs. This is Changbai Mountain Wild Ginseng given to me by a close friend several years ago. I hope you’ll accept it, Mr. Raymond."
I eagerly took the box and opened it, inhaling the fragrance deeply.
Excitement spread across my face! This ginseng had to be over thirty years old! It was practically the finest herb I’d ever encountered!
"Mr. Schultz, I won’t refuse such a generous gift!" I accepted it directly, especially since I needed herbs at the moment.
Jack laughed heartily. "How can a mere herb compare with my wife’s life? Mr. Raymond, if you need anything in the future, just say the word!"
This reminded me of something important.
I handed the herbs to Victor Green and then said with a serious tone, "Mr. Schultz, I actually have a favor to ask of you."
"Mr. Raymond, whatever it is, just name it. If it’s within my power, I won’t hesitate!" Jack thumped his chest confidently.
I paused briefly, feeling a cold determination rise within me.
After a moment, I slowly said, "Has the Hill family recently taken out a loan from Chuzzle Bank?"
Jack looked surprised before nodding, "Indeed, Carter Hill just applied for a 20 billion loan from my bank for three years. I’ve agreed to it."
I fixed him with a cold stare and said, "Mr. Schultz, I want you to cut off his loan, reject his application, and never approve a loan for the Hill family again!"
