Chapter 617: Chapter 617 The Alms Bowl Shatters

The mustached man and I rushed into the Great Hall together.

During our hurried journey, both of us felt incredibly thrilled.

The mustached man kept mumbling under his breath, "A skull from a mighty realm cultivator will definitely forge an amazing weapon!"

I felt pretty frustrated that this brilliant idea hadn’t crossed my mind sooner.

We reached the Great Hall quickly.

The skull we’d discovered earlier had partially cracked, but with careful searching, we could still locate several fragments.

We started hunting through everything systematically, and before long, I spotted a skull piece lying on the floor.

"Found one!" I called out eagerly.

The mustached man rushed over to where I stood, saying excitedly, "That skull belongs to me!"

He stretched his hand toward the skull immediately.

But the moment the mustached man’s fingers made contact with the skull, it dissolved into powder.

A breeze swept through, leaving absolutely nothing behind.

"What the hell just happened?" My brows knitted together instantly.

The mustached man’s expression grew serious and troubled.

He refused to give up and kept hunting for more skull pieces.

The same thing happened with every skull fragment we discovered afterward - they crumbled to dust the second we touched them.

"Why does this keep happening!" My face went a bit pale.

The mustached man stayed quiet for a long time, saying nothing at all.

"Could this... have something to do with that corpse?" I remembered the Immortal Slaying Sect leader’s body.

After I had touched the leader’s remains, the bones started breaking apart.

Now even the intact pieces were completely worthless.

The mustached man let out a heavy sigh, muttering, "I got carried away. I should’ve known that bones from mighty realm cultivators wouldn’t be this straightforward..."

"So what’s our next move?" I asked with a frown.

"What choice do we have? Just stick with me. The skull wasn’t really my main target anyway." The mustached man spoke with an air of mystery.

I grabbed the mustached man’s arm, demanding in a low voice, "Then what exactly are you after?"

The mustached man opened his mouth, looking like he wasn’t sure whether to tell me.

After a brief pause, he waved his hand and said, "Alright, since you’re already here, I’ll spill it."

"The Immortal Slaying Sect calls itself the world’s greatest sect, and sure enough, they possess endless treasures."

"But my reason for coming here has nothing to do with the Immortal Slaying Sect. I’m here for a woman."

My eyebrows drew together. "A woman?"

The mustached man nodded. "The woman who wiped out the Immortal Slaying Sect!"

When he said that, I instantly thought of the masked woman!

I quickly turned to the mustached man and asked, "How much do you know about this woman?"

"I wouldn’t claim to know her inside and out," the mustached man answered.

"But from all the information I’ve collected over the years, that woman is definitely an unstoppable powerhouse! The Immortal Slaying Sect was nothing to her."

The mustached man paused here, speaking mysteriously, "I’ve got a hunch that she might’ve left some treasure behind."

"If it’s her treasure, the Immortal Slaying Sect’s wealth would look like pocket change!"

"If I could get my hands on that woman’s mask... haha, I’d be set for life."

The mask?

The mask the mustached man mentioned was probably the one Watson Thompson had, right?

"Come on, we can’t waste more time," the mustached man said.

"If you can locate that mask, I’ll hand over every treasure the Immortal Slaying Sect owns!"

I stayed silent, but I knew the mustached man wouldn’t be getting that mask today.

"I need to figure out how to warn Watson Thompson and make sure nobody else discovers that mask exists," I thought to myself.

We continued our journey, with the mustached man gripping the Divine Plate while searching for hidden treasure.

Time passed - we had no idea how long - before the Divine Plate in his hands started glowing intensely again.

This time the light was much stronger than before, almost becoming a blinding blaze.

The mustached man got so excited! He grabbed my hand and said enthusiastically, "Do you see that? When the Divine Plate shines this bright, there have to be incredible treasures here!"

I felt somewhat worried though, saying, "Let’s just hope we don’t uncover another headless body."

The mustached man ignored me completely, sat down cross-legged on the ground, and used his previous technique.

Brilliant light erupted from the white ash spread out before him.

All of a sudden, the world around us began vibrating!

A few minutes passed, then a crack split open in the ground!

"There really is something here!" The mustached man was so thrilled he nearly leaped with joy!

My eyes filled with anticipation too.

This was the Immortal Slaying Sect, the world’s top sect from thousands of years ago. Nobody knew what kind of foundations they’d built!

The crack expanded more and more, eventually creating a huge opening.

Peering down through the gap, it looked like some kind of burial chamber!

The burial chamber appeared extremely elaborate, spacious, and seemingly infinite when we looked across it.

The mustached man pulled a lamp from his pocket and, with a grave expression, said to me, "We have no clue whose tomb this is. If it’s that woman’s tomb, there’s bound to be serious danger."

I nodded and said, "Don’t worry; I’ll stick right beside you."

The mustached man waved his hand and said, "No, I mean you need to keep me safe."

I said nothing.

We carefully descended into the burial chamber.

The tomb’s corridor stretched extremely far, at least several hundred meters long.

The further we traveled, the more intense the dark energy grew.

This dark energy felt strangely familiar to me.

This... was remarkably similar to the dark energy in the Huge Pit at Chuzzle! The strength was practically identical!

The mustached man shivered and said with quivering lips, "I’ve got a feeling... something’s wrong here."

Right now, the mustached man was having second thoughts and didn’t want to go further.

I grabbed the lamp and said seriously, "Stay right behind me." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Then I took the lead and walked deeper into the burial chamber.

Just as expected, the dark energy got stronger the deeper we went.

A huge section of the burial chamber was even covered in ice!

The chamber walls were decorated with icicle after icicle.

I snapped off an icicle, tasted it, then exclaimed, "This icicle formed from the dark energy!"

In other words, the dark energy here was so thick it condensed into water drops.

And since the area was freezing cold, the water drops made from dark energy froze directly into icicles!

"Such concentrated dark energy... it’s truly frightening," I said grimly.

"I’ve been tomb raiding for so many years, and I’ve never encountered such concentrated dark energy..." the mustached man said with trembling lips.

I felt exactly the same; the dark energy’s intensity here exceeded anything we could imagine!

"Maybe... maybe we should just quit. This place could actually be that woman’s tomb," the mustached man said, shaking all over.

I looked at him and said, "How can you be this scared?"

The mustached man swallowed hard and said, "Mason, you don’t understand how terrifying that woman is. From what I’ve learned, she’s a bloodthirsty killer. We can’t handle the traps she’s set up..."

I laughed, "Don’t you have that pestle and alms bowl from Western Buddhism? What’s there to fear?"

Hearing this, the mustached man quickly placed the alms bowl on top of his head.

"Crack"

But right at that moment, the alms bowl on the mustached man’s head broke into pieces!
