Chapter 528: Chapter 528 Waiting For The Right Wind
Watching the confident father and son duo, Logan Sean gave a slight nod.
"You don’t just need to win," he said coolly. "You need to crush them completely."
"If we have to, we’ll bring in the Marquis."
Vance Johansson quickly waved his hands. "That’s not necessary. I already beat the Marquis!"
"Then let’s toast to Vance Johansson’s victory!" Logan Sean lifted his cup, and everyone immediately rose to their feet.
...
Days passed in a blur.
I slipped into that zone where nothing else mattered, soaking up dark energy like it was second nature.
The dark energy flowing through me had nearly matched the yang energy, and the qi pooling in my dantian was strong enough to push me into the Military Marquis Realm!
"Mr. Raymond, time’s up."
Mya Winona’s gentle touch on my shoulder brought me back that day.
But I stayed put, legs still folded, eyes barely open.
"You’re being too soft. That won’t work," Victor Green grumbled.
He lifted his foot and gave me a solid kick.
Breaking out of meditation was when you were most exposed.
That kick sent me sprawling backward.
I cracked my eyes open to the blazing sun overhead.
"Already?" I pushed myself up off the ground.
My brow furrowed as worry crept across my face.
"How’d it go, Mr. Raymond?" Victor Green asked.
I shook my head. "The qi’s definitely there, but I still can’t break into the Martial Marquis realm."
Tomorrow was September 9th. I was out of time.
"Mr. Raymond, maybe... maybe we should just call it off," Victor Green suggested.
I drew in a deep breath. "No way. I won’t let Mabel marry Vance Johansson."
Just thinking about it made my stomach turn!
Right then, I sensed someone approaching from outside.
I glanced toward the entrance and headed down from the back mountain.
I walked into the courtyard to find Dimitri Brynlee and Conrad Schroeder waiting there.
Jasper Thompson and Watson Thompson were with them too!
"Mason Raymond!"
Watson Thompson was the first to rush over.
She grabbed my arm and whispered urgently, "You can’t let Sister Mabel marry that scumbag Vance Johansson!"
I ruffled Watson Thompson’s hair and managed a smile. "Don’t worry. Even if it kills me, I won’t let Vance Johansson get what he wants."
"Watson, get over here and stop bothering brother Mason with his important business," Jasper Thompson scolded from the side.
I looked around at everyone. "Come on inside."
Once we were in the living room, Mya Winona brought out tea for the group.
"What’s your current realm, Mr. Raymond?" Conrad Schroeder couldn’t help asking.
I frowned. "Half-step Martial Marquis."
"Half-step Martial Marquis?" Surprise flickered across Conrad Schroeder’s face, mixed with concern.
"Mr. Raymond, word is that Vance Johansson just took down a Martial Marquis," Conrad Schroeder said grimly.
I nodded. "I know. I’ve been pushing to break through to the Martial Marquis realm, but something’s missing. Everything seems ready, but there’s still something I can’t grasp."
Conrad Schroeder looked stunned.
The gap between him - the former top fighter in Chuzzle - and me kept growing wider.
"Reaching the Martial Marquis realm in just one year is incredible," Conrad Schroeder muttered.
But I stayed quiet.
I wasn’t in the mood to think about my own abilities. I was too busy worrying about how to actually break through to the Martial Marquis realm.
"They say breaking into the Martial Marquis realm needs the right moment and sudden understanding. Training alone won’t cut it," Dimitri Brynlee finally spoke up after staying silent.
I turned to Dimitri Brynlee. "What kind of moment and understanding, Master Brynlee?"
Dimitri Brynlee paused before answering. "Everything’s in place, just waiting for the right wind."
Everything’s in place, just waiting for the right wind?
I was sharp enough to catch his meaning quickly.
"So... it’s up to fate," I said with a tight frown.
Dimitri Brynlee nodded slightly. "That’s right. Most people feel the breakthrough happening without even trying."
"Of course, nothing’s set in stone. Some people force their way into the Martial Marquis realm, but the odds of success are tiny."
My thoughts went to the Pavilion Master.
She held back her realm for years, then broke through to the Martial Marquis realm when she decided to.
How did she pull that off?
"Mason Raymond, no matter what approach you take, there’s no time left," Dimitri Brynlee sighed.
I smiled bitterly. "Yeah, I’m planning to head to the Capital City today."
"This soon?" Jasper Thompson frowned.
He grabbed my hand. "Do you really have to go to the Capital City?"
I nodded. "I don’t have a choice."
Jasper Thompson’s frown deepened, and he sighed. "If you’re going to your death, I don’t think Miss Sean would want you doing this."
I slowly stood up.
I stared off into the distance. "They won’t kill me that easily."
I’d been itching for a fight with Vance Johansson for ages.
That arrogant, well-dressed pretty boy - I’d wanted to smash his smug face to pieces for way too long.
"Mason Raymond, Vance Johansson isn’t like your other enemies. He might be the toughest opponent you’ve ever faced," Dimitri Brynlee said slowly.
I grinned. "I know. He’s a genius from the Capital City aristocracy, after all."
I stopped for a moment, then went on. "But every great achiever got where they are by crushing geniuses along the way."
Everyone fell silent.
They wanted to talk me out of it, but they knew my mind was already set.
"Victor Green, get some food ready," I told Victor Green.
Victor Green nodded and left the room.
The mood during dinner felt off.
Everyone seemed weighed down.
After we finished eating, everyone got ready to leave since I was about to head out for the Capital City.
But then Watson Thompson suddenly tugged on my arm. "Mason Raymond, come here. I need to tell you something."
"Watson, stop being a pest!" Jasper Thompson snapped.
Watson Thompson ignored Jasper Thompson and pulled me into another room.
"What’s up?" I asked, amused by how anxious Watson Thompson looked.
Watson Thompson glanced around nervously. "I just heard them talking about how you need the right moment to break into the Martial Marquis realm, right?"
I nodded. "Yeah."
Watson Thompson bit her lip. "I’m that pure dark energy body they talk about. I know dual cultivation can help people improve. Maybe... maybe that’s what you need to reach the Martial Marquis realm."
