Chapter 40: Chapter 40 - Allegiance Shifted

My words echoed with power and conviction, enough to draw the attention of the white-haired young man across the room.

Carter Hill’s face twisted into an angry sneer as he jabbed his finger at me. "Good, well! I never thought someone from River City would dare to speak to me this way!"

He tossed a wooden stick at my feet with contempt in his eyes.

"I’ll give you one chance," Carter declared coldly. "Break both your legs, and I’ll consider this matter settled."

I glanced down at the stick near my shoes, then suddenly kicked it upward.

The wooden projectile sailed through the air directly toward Carter. It brushed past his head with precision and embedded itself into the wall behind him.

Cracks spread like spider webs across the wall’s surface from the impact point.

Carter’s expression hardened further. "I’ve already offered you a chance," he sneered. "If you don’t appreciate it, don’t blame me for what happens next."

"Starting tomorrow, everyone around you will suffer!" His face contorted with malice.

This threat didn’t concern me much. I lived as something of a loner and didn’t have many connections to worry about.

"You can go," Carter dismissed me with a wave of his hand.

I remained planted where I stood, making no move to leave.

Carter’s brow furrowed as he barked, "When I tell you to leave, are you deaf?"

Ignoring him completely, I turned toward the white-haired young man instead. "Are you willing to come with me?"

The white-haired man stared back at me in shock, seemingly unable to process what he’d just heard.

"A seven-foot-tall man cannot live forever under someone else’s thumb," I stated coldly. "Would you rather be a loyal dog to someone like this, or live with dignity?"

The white-haired man didn’t respond immediately. He lowered his gaze, his expression reflecting inner conflict.

Carter found this exchange amusing. He kicked the white-haired man and sneered, "A dog remains a dog; there’s no changing that."

Suddenly, the white-haired man pushed himself up from the ground!

"Carter Hill, I’ve had enough of your family’s behavior!" he snarled through gritted teeth. "You grovel before those with more power while treating those beneath you as less than human! I quit!"

With that declaration, he yanked off his suit jacket and threw it forcefully to the floor before walking toward me.

Carter’s face darkened. He signaled to his bodyguards with a wave. They immediately understood, drawing daggers and lunging to stab the white-haired man in the back!

Just as the blade nearly made contact, I flicked my finger, sending a coin flying. It struck the bodyguard’s wrist with pinpoint accuracy! The dagger clattered to the floor.

"Let’s go," I said to the white-haired man, placing my arm around his shoulder as we walked out of the restaurant together.

Behind us, Carter’s face turned purple with rage. The sound of a table being violently overturned echoed through the room.

"I will absolutely never let him off!" Carter’s venomous voice followed us out.

I brought the white-haired man back to my residence. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

During our conversation, I learned his name was Victor Green, an expensive bodyguard hired by Carter Hill.

"Thank you for saving my life twice," Victor said as he sat beside me, his expression downcast. "Unfortunately, I’m crippled now and afraid I can’t repay you."

I glanced at him briefly before pulling a pill from my pocket.

"Eat this," I said without elaboration.

Victor looked confused, his brow furrowing. "What is it?"

"Eat it first, ask questions later." I offered no further explanation.

Seeing my expression, Victor swallowed the pill without further protest.

This was a Marrow Generating Pill I had personally refined. I’d originally intended it as a gift for Carter Hill, but after witnessing his behavior, my plans had changed.

As soon as the pill entered Victor’s system, I placed my hand on his kneecap. Waves of qi flowed from my palm, enveloping his injured knee.

Victor visibly felt the strange tingling sensation in his joint.

After thirty seconds, I removed my hand.

"Try walking," I instructed flatly.

Victor cautiously tested his limbs, his expression transforming to amazement as he discovered his broken leg had completely healed.

"How... how is this possible!" His face registered pure shock. "Even the world’s most renowned doctor couldn’t perform such a miraculous healing..."

I simply smiled. "This world’s most renowned doctor is nothing compared to me."

This wasn’t mere boasting—it was fact. I had obtained the dao technique for immortality cultivation. At the peak of my powers, I could shatter stars. Bringing the dead back to life wasn’t beyond my capabilities.

"Now I need to ask you some questions," I said, fixing my gaze on Victor.

He quickly replied, "Mr. Raymond, I’ll never forget your kindness. Ask me anything!"

A cold glint flashed in my eyes.

"Tell me everything about the Hill family," I demanded icily. "Their businesses, assets, and strength."

"I intend to leave the Hill family with nothing." My voice carried unwavering determination.

While I had many questions for Victor, my primary goal had crystallized: bankrupting the Hill family completely!
