Chapter 38: Chapter 38 - Unyielding Defiance
No one had anticipated the situation would reach this point. Not a soul imagined I would take action regardless of the Hill family’s standing!
I fixed my cold gaze on Lyla Lucas and stated flatly, "We have no connection anymore. Stay away from me, or face the consequences."
My warning targeted not just Lyla but Harvey Brown too.
After I walked out.
Lyla scoffed loudly, "You struck Xavier Hill? Let’s see how long your arrogance lasts!"
Nearly everyone present shared her sentiment.
Upon exiting the villa, I slid into Woods Walters’ car.
"Mr. Raymond, that was truly impressive back there!" Woods gave me an enthusiastic thumbs-up.
My thoughts weren’t on the confrontation but rather on the villa’s environment. The qi there provided ample resources for me to progress to the Third-Layer Qi Refining stage, making it perfect for cultivation.
"I should return there if possible," I contemplated quietly.
During our drive back, Woods leaned over and advised, "Mr. Raymond, you should visit Miss Sean in the coming days, otherwise... the Hill family won’t let this slide."
I glanced at Woods and shook my head firmly. "I can’t constantly rely on others, and besides... the Hill family isn’t such a big deal."
Though the Hill family wielded considerable power, I felt no fear. What could they possibly do to me when I stood alone?
Seeing my resolve, Woods fell silent.
That night, Xavier Hill was rushed to the hospital.
Unfortunately, his arm bones were completely shattered beyond repair, leaving him permanently disabled.
Upon learning this outcome, Xavier erupted into a rage.
"Crippled for life? Mason Raymond, I’ll kill you! I swear I will!" Xavier screamed furiously.
The following day.
News of the incident spread across half of River City.
In the Sean family’s Estate.
"This Mason Raymond is outrageously bold! Exploiting your relationship, he acts recklessly! He even attacked Mr. Hill!" The Secretary complained angrily.
Mabel Sean, however, remained unconcerned. Watching footage of the incident, she displayed excitement rather than anger.
"Miss Sean, Mason Raymond has only known you for days and already causes trouble everywhere. What will happen down the road?" the Secretary muttered.
Mabel shook her head and handed him the video. "What do you notice here?"
The Secretary examined the footage from various angles and admitted, "Miss, forgive my lack of insight, but I see nothing special..."
Mabel chuckled softly. "Facing numerous attacks and insults, Mason remains calm and composed."
"His mindset alone distinguishes him from Xavier."
The Secretary mumbled, "That’s hardly remarkable. Many people in Capital City possess strong mental fortitude..."
"Yes, it might seem insignificant," Mabel replied lightly.
"But those individuals either received family training from childhood or developed such mentality through years of experience."
"Mason developed this mindset in just one week. A week ago, he was completely ordinary." Mabel’s voice carried a hint of satisfaction.
The Secretary remained puzzled but inherently disliked Mason. No matter what Mabel said, his opinion seemed unlikely to change.
"It appears my grandfather was correct; Mason won’t disappoint me," Mabel said with a light laugh.
The Secretary mumbled, "Miss, but... after attacking Xavier, the Hill family won’t back down. Handling this might prove difficult..."
"Handle it?" Disdain flashed in Mabel’s eyes.
"Why should I interfere? Do I owe anything to the Hill family?" Mabel scoffed.
Seeing her reaction, the Secretary said nothing more.
Meanwhile, Xavier’s father, Carter Hill, had already arrived in River City.
At the hospital, Xavier tearfully clutched Carter’s arm.
"Dad, you must avenge me! Make him suffer a thousand painful deaths!" Xavier cried out.
"And Mabel Sean too – without her backing, that guy wouldn’t dare act so arrogantly!"
Seeing his son’s condition, Carter’s anger exploded!
"Son, don’t worry, I’ll avenge you," Carter said through gritted teeth.
"Rest now. I’ll make him pay the price." After these instructions, Carter departed for the Sean family’s Estate.
Confronted by the furious Carter Hill, Mabel remained composed and politely inquired, "Uncle Carter, what brings you here?"
Carter roared, "Mabel Sean, don’t waste my time! My son traveled all the way to River City pursuing you, and what happened? Not only did you fail to look after him, you let him suffer severe injury! How will you address this?"
Hearing Carter’s outburst, Mabel’s expression gradually hardened.
"Have I given you too much face, making you overestimate yourself?" Mabel said coldly.
"I called you uncle out of courtesy, not fear."
"Carter Hill, who gave you the audacity to shout at me?"
