Chapter 320: Chapter 320 - Fatal Diagnosis
Mabel Sean’s words completely caught me off guard.
Duane Sean looked even more uncomfortable. "Mabel, I haven’t finished my performance yet..."
"Performance? Stop right now or I’ll lose my temper." Mabel Sean’s eyebrows drew together as she feigned anger.
Duane Sean could only give a bitter smile. He gestured with his hand, and the oppressive atmosphere around us vanished instantly.
My body felt normal again in a heartbeat.
"What... what just happened?" I felt totally confused.
Duane Sean managed a forced grin. "If I hadn’t stopped, my granddaughter would’ve torn my beard clean off."
I scratched my head, completely baffled.
What the hell was going on? Why had Jerry Sean suddenly become a totally different person?
"Grandpa just wanted to test you," Mabel Sean laughed.
Duane Sean smiled faintly. "You did well. You didn’t let me down."
I couldn’t help but chuckle, scratching my head again. "Honestly, I was terrified just now..."
"You already did amazing." Mabel Sean gently patted my head.
"Alright, if nothing else is going on, come play chess with me," Duane Sean said with a smile.
Right now, Duane Sean seemed to have changed from some high-and-mighty ruler into a kind old man.
"Ah, sure." I quickly agreed.
"You two play chess, I’ll go help in the kitchen," Mabel Sean said.
I couldn’t hide my shock. "You... you’re going to cook?"
"Ever since she came back from River City, she’s been practicing her cooking," Duane Sean chuckled.
Mabel Sean turned red. "Stop talking nonsense!"
After saying that, Mabel Sean hurried away.
I immediately got the chessboard ready and started playing with Jerry Sean.
They say chess mirrors life, and there’s no denying that Jerry Sean’s strategic vision was incredible.
I lost badly in almost every game and frequently had no clue where to move my pieces.
After three rounds, I hadn’t won once.
"Hahaha!" Jerry Sean burst out laughing.
He said with obvious smugness, "Mason Raymond, your chess game is terrible. You’re no competition for me."
Seeing Jerry Sean’s ridiculous expression, I could only smile helplessly.
I even started wondering if the stories about Jerry Sean in Capital City were actually true.
"Cough, cough!"
Right then, Jerry Sean suddenly started coughing hard.
Several drops of blood showed up in his palm after the coughing spell.
My expression changed immediately, and I asked urgently, "Jerry Sean, are you okay?"
Jerry Sean waved his hand. "What could be wrong with me? It’s normal to have little health issues when you get old."
Little health issues?
I wasn’t buying that optimistic view. I couldn’t help remembering what Vance Johansson had told me.
I activated my medical abilities and examined Jerry Sean.
Sure enough, faint dark energy hovered around Jerry Sean’s forehead.
Even though the dark energy was weak, it definitely carried the scent of death.
"Jerry Sean, haven’t you gotten this checked at a hospital?" I asked with concern in my voice.
Jerry Sean waved his hand dismissively. "I told you, I’m fine."
As Jerry Sean spoke so casually, I felt more troubled.
I hesitated briefly, then got up and said, "Jerry Sean, there’s something I’m not sure I should mention."
Jerry Sean waved his hand, showing he didn’t care.
I said seriously, "Jerry Sean, you should get examined at a hospital. Vance Johansson told me once, he said..."
"What did he say?" Jerry Sean asked with a smile.
I didn’t know how to begin and stood there looking lost.
"He said I have less than a year left, right?" Jerry Sean said with a slight smile.
I was stunned and forced a smile. "You already knew?"
Jerry Sean set down the chess piece in his hand, speaking slowly, "He knows, so how could I not know my own body’s condition."
"Then... why haven’t you considered any treatments? Like the Divine Alchemist Pavilion, or..."
Jerry Sean waved his hand, cutting off my words.
With a touch of pride, he said, "Some things can’t be controlled, like life and death."
My face looked somewhat dark, and I couldn’t understand.
Why wouldn’t Jerry Sean go to the Divine Alchemist Pavilion, which claims to heal any illness?
Or maybe I could try treating Jerry Sean’s condition myself.
"Let’s drop this topic. Let’s talk about something else," Jerry Sean said.
I couldn’t let it go, so I carefully asked, "Does Mabel know about this?"
Jerry Sean shook his head and sighed. "For now, it’s better she doesn’t know."
Hearing those words, I couldn’t help feeling heartbroken.
Jerry Sean truly cared about Mabel Sean.
I couldn’t imagine how much agony Mabel Sean would experience if she discovered this.
"Sir, dinner is ready," a servant approached and said.
Jerry Sean laughed loudly. "Mason Raymond, let’s go. Keep me company for some drinks tonight."
I nodded with a heavy heart and followed behind Jerry Sean as we headed downstairs.
It was only five in the afternoon, and the Sean brothers hadn’t come back yet.
The table was covered with elaborate dishes, their luxury beyond belief.
Soon, Mabel Sean appeared carrying a dish.
This dish was clearly the product of careful study and, despite being made from basic ingredients, was beautifully arranged.
Mabel Sean set the dish in front of me, her voice full of hope. "Quick, try it! I made it myself!"
"This dish is made specially for you," Jerry Sean teased from the side.
"Grandpa!" Mabel Sean looked somewhat irritated.
Jerry Sean smiled ruefully. "Okay, okay. I won’t say another word."
I picked up my chopsticks, took a bite, and put it in my mouth.
"How is it?" Mabel Sean asked hopefully.
I praised, "Delicious! It’s incredibly delicious!"
"Really?!" Mabel Sean got so excited she nearly jumped up!
"Really!" I grabbed my chopsticks and started eating like crazy, stuffing the food in my mouth.
This made Mabel Sean quite happy, and she whispered, "I’ll cook other things for you later."
As we enjoyed this warm moment, a middle-aged man entered from outside.
When Mabel Sean saw the man, she stood up and called out, "Uncle!"
Hearing this title, I immediately looked up at the man.
The man had a solid build, a cold expression, and a naturally ruthless air.
"Is this Logan Sean?" I wondered to myself.
Roberts Joshua had mentioned once that besides Jerry Sean, Logan Sean held the most power in the Sean family.
