Chapter 287: Chapter 287 - Beloved Betrayal
Dimitri Brynlee looked off somehow, almost strange.
"Mr. Raymond, why don’t you go by yourself? I don’t want to go," Victor Green mumbled.
I looked at Dimitri Brynlee and smiled. "Master Brynlee, please forgive him."
Dimitri Brynlee sighed quietly. "For your sake, I’ll let it slide this time."
Victor Green suddenly got it and stared at Dimitri Brynlee in terror, like a spooked cat.
"You... you’re Dimitri Brynlee?" Victor Green gulped.
Dimitri Brynlee didn’t answer, just waved his hand. "Let’s go."
The car raced toward the River North Region.
The River North Region stretched far and wide, with Chuzzle being the smallest of several provinces.
Since Bergerac Province sat separated from Chuzzle by another province, the trip dragged on.
Victor Green and I switched driving from day to night and finally rolled into Bergerac Province the next morning.
"This is Bergerac Province." After crossing into Bergerac territory, I took a deep breath.
I sent out my divine sense to feel more than half of Bergerac Province.
"I have to say, the qi in Bergerac beats Chuzzle by miles," I said quietly.
Dimitri Brynlee nodded slightly. "That’s because it’s near the Divine Alchemist Pavilion, so the qi runs thicker."
"The Divine Alchemist Pavilion?" My eyes narrowed.
I knew about this place. People said it held serious social power, and their healing skills were unmatched anywhere.
Lots of big shots went to the Divine Alchemist Pavilion for treatment.
As for the Pavilion Master, he stayed hidden, nearly impossible to meet.
"If I get the chance, I should check out the Divine Alchemist Pavilion," I thought to myself.
The car kept moving, and we quickly reached the Brynlee’ Mansion.
Dimitri Brynlee’ place looked pretty classy, with the whole house built in Chinese style.
After pushing through the front door, a winding path stretched ahead.
Bamboo groves lined both sides of the path, giving it that martial arts vibe.
"My place is just up there." Dimitri Brynlee pointed to a mansion nearby.
I nodded slightly. "Master Brynlee’ home is really something special. Having a house like this nowadays is quite the luxury."
Dimitri Brynlee stayed quiet. He just walked toward the mansion with his hands behind his back.
As a master of the River North Region, Dimitri Brynlee naturally had plenty of disciples.
But today, he seemed confused since he didn’t spot any disciples on the way.
"Strange," Dimitri Brynlee frowned.
He tried releasing his divine sense, but found not one person in the entire Brynlee Family.
"Did they all head out?" Dimitri Brynlee frowned.
"What’s wrong?" I asked.
Dimitri Brynlee waved his hand to show there was no problem.
"First, let me show you the Enlightenment Tea," Dimitri Brynlee said.
I nodded eagerly. "Sounds great!"
So Dimitri Brynlee led me to a secret chamber.
Though it’s called a secret chamber, it was really just a storage room, and only two people had the key.
One was Dimitri Brynlee, and the other was his top disciple, Patrick Ivory.
Dimitri Brynlee opened the storage room door and went to a wooden cabinet in front of him.
"The Enlightenment Tea is here," Dimitri Brynlee slowly opened the cabinet.
My excitement hit peak level, staring hard at the cabinet to see what the Enlightenment Tea looked like.
But when the cabinet opened, it was completely empty.
"Huh?" Dimitri Brynlee frowned.
He quickly searched through the storage room but still couldn’t find the Enlightenment Tea!
"How did this happen?" Right then, even Dimitri Brynlee started to panic!
"Master Brynlee, what’s going on?" I frowned.
Dimitri Brynlee didn’t speak, but his face turned ice cold.
"Could Patrick Ivory have taken it?" Dimitri Brynlee’ expression got even colder.
After saying that, he looked at me and bowed. "I’m sorry, it looks like the Enlightenment Tea has been stolen. But don’t worry, I’ll find a way to get it back."
"Stolen?" My eyebrows creased.
Dimitri Brynlee didn’t say anything more. He pushed the door open and rushed into the courtyard.
Not a single soul in the entire courtyard.
This gave Dimitri Brynlee a bad feeling.
Just then, a voice came from the Ancient Well in the courtyard.
"Master, have you returned?" The voice echoed from deep in the well.
Dimitri Brynlee hurried to the well and saw way down, a disciple shaking!
"What... what’s happening!"
Dimitri Brynlee’ face changed completely. He raised his hand to reach into the well, and a gentle force lifted the disciple out.
When the disciple saw Dimitri Brynlee, he couldn’t help but break down crying.
"What happened?" Dimitri Brynlee asked coldly.
The disciple wiped his tears and sobbed. "It’s Patrick Ivory!"
"Patrick Ivory?" Dimitri Brynlee felt more and more uneasy.
The disciple continued. "After you left, Patrick Ivory suddenly decided to start his own sect and demanded we become his slaves."
"We refused, and that’s when Patrick Ivory started killing!"
"His power has grown incredibly, and even when we ganged up, we couldn’t beat him!"
At this point, the disciple’s tears poured down uncontrollably.
He dropped to his knees in pain and said, "In his rage, Patrick Ivory... killed all our senior brothers!"
"What?!" Dimitri Brynlee shook with fury hearing this!
A wave of power suddenly burst from him, making the bamboo groves rustle!
"Master, you must kill Patrick Ivory and get revenge for us!" The disciple cried out in grief.
But Dimitri Brynlee didn’t say anything for a long time. The power he’d just released quickly pulled back.
Within seconds, a trace of sadness appeared on Dimitri Brynlee’ face.
Right then, Dimitri Brynlee seemed to have aged decades.
"Master Brynlee, you... you okay?" I frowned.
Dimitri Brynlee waved his hand, somewhat weakly. "I’m fine, I’m fine..."
After he spoke, Dimitri Brynlee collapsed to the ground.
I quickly caught him and sent my qi into Dimitri Brynlee’ body.
"Let’s get back to the room first." I helped Dimitri Brynlee all the way to the bedroom.
Dimitri Brynlee lay on the bed, his face full of mixed emotions.
"Mason Raymond, I’m sorry I couldn’t keep the promise to your father..." Dimitri Brynlee said with guilt.
I waved my hand. "No need to say that now."
Dimitri Brynlee let out a long sigh and said painfully, "Patrick Ivory had no parents since childhood. I raised him and taught him everything I knew, but I never thought... he would do something like this."
After saying that, cloudy tears flowed from Dimitri Brynlee’ eyes.
Looking at the deeply hurt Dimitri Brynlee, I felt all kinds of emotions.
I could understand Dimitri Brynlee’ feelings.
The taste of betrayal cuts deep.
Especially when it comes from someone close to you.
