Chapter 25: Chapter 25 - Unwanted Guests
I felt immediate disgust wash over me as I looked at the two people standing before me.
"Wow, Mason, you’re living in such a nice house now," Maeve remarked, her eyes scanning my surroundings.
I fixed her with a cold stare. "What do you want?"
"What’s with that attitude? Can’t I come visit you without something being wrong?" Maeve replied with a laugh that didn’t reach her eyes.
The stark difference between her current behavior and how she’d treated me before only increased my revulsion.
Woods Walters stood awkwardly to the side, clearly uncomfortable and unable to participate in our conversation.
I turned and walked into the living room without another word.
Seeing this, Maeve quickly signaled to Lyla Lucas.
Lyla appeared reluctant but followed me inside anyway.
"This house is so luxurious; it must be many times better than ours!" Maeve exclaimed the moment she entered the living room.
I responded with nothing but a derisive snort.
"Mason, we lived together for three years, and I can’t just forget about those feelings," Maeve said, clearly trying to play on my emotions.
"Now that you’ve made it big, it’s also related to our Lucas family’s education, right?" she asked shamelessly.
I sneered upon hearing this. "The Lucas family’s education? What did you teach me? Housekeeping or verbal abuse and beatings?"
Maeve’s face momentarily showed embarrassment before she laughed it off. "Oh, come on; those are all things of the past! Even if you and Lyla are divorced, I will always consider you family!"
After that remark, Maeve yelled at Lyla, "Go and pour Mason a glass of water!"
As Lyla approached to pour water for me, she deliberately tried to lean into my arms.
Fortunately, I quickly sidestepped her maneuver.
Lyla, who had clearly intended to land against me, fell hard onto the floor.
"Ouch..." Lyla groaned, clutching her arm with a pained expression.
She got up from the ground, shot me a glare, and seemed about to lose her temper.
Maeve hastily intervened to stop her.
Maeve pulled me aside and with a flirtatious expression said, "Mason, I know you’re upset about what happened, and I don’t know how to make it up to you."
"If you’re willing, you and Lyla can be like that too," she continued with a malicious smile.
I coldly questioned her. "Like what?"
"Like back when Lyla and Harvey Brown were sneaking around. Just consider it revenge against Harvey," Maeve explained, blinking suggestively.
I suddenly felt sick to my stomach.
The Lucas family’s true colors disgusted me completely.
"Using your own body as capital, don’t you feel ashamed?" I said coldly.
"I’m not as perverted as Harvey Brown, and besides, I find Lyla disgusting to look at, so I’ll leave her for Harvey to enjoy himself," I added mercilessly.
Upon hearing my words, Lyla could no longer contain herself.
She pointed at me and cursed, "Mason, you’re really shameless! Have you forgotten how you used to fawn over me?"
"I was a fool back then, but it doesn’t mean I’m still one," I replied with ice in my voice.
Lyla clenched her teeth. "Fine, Mason, you’re nothing but a freeloader, a useless man who will rely on women for a lifetime! I want to see how long you can be so arrogant!"
Maeve, standing nearby, clearly became irritated, but the atmosphere had already soured beyond repair.
She changed her tone and said, "Lyla is right, you’re like mud that can’t hold up a wall, you’ll be like this for the rest of your life!"
As expected, their ugly personalities remained unchanged.
Fortunately, I no longer cared what they thought. "Get out, get out of here right now!" I demanded coldly.
Lyla sneered with crossed arms. "You dare to curse me? Don’t think you can do whatever you want just because you have the Sean family backing you! Have you forgotten how Woods Walters beat you up last time? Don’t make me call Harvey Brown to have Woods come and beat you up again!"
