Chapter 20: Chapter 20 - Tables Turned

After hearing Lyla Lucas’s words, Harvey Brown felt a hint of fatigue washing over him.

I couldn’t understand how there could be such a foolish person in the world. The sheer absurdity of her statement left me speechless.

Mabel Sean suddenly stood up from her seat. With a smile adorning her face, she faced Lyla Lucas and asked in a deceptively friendly tone, "What did you just say?"

Lyla Lucas, completely oblivious to the danger she was in, continued, "I said Mason Raymond, he is a..."

"Slap!"

Before she could finish her sentence, Mabel’s hand connected with Lyla’s face! The impact left a clear, red handprint on her cheek.

"Who are you to judge him?" Mabel said coldly.

Lyla covered her face, disbelief written all over her features.

"You...you hit me?" she sputtered, looking both wronged and furious.

She quickly turned to Harvey and demanded angrily, "Husband, she hit me, get revenge for me immediately!"

"Damn your revenge!" Harvey raised his hand and delivered another powerful slap across Lyla’s face.

The force of it left her dazed, standing there in complete shock.

"You damn fool, shut up! Or I’ll beat your mouth to a pulp!" Harvey snarled through gritted teeth, visibly restraining himself from doing worse.

Then Harvey dropped to his knees in front of Mabel, trembling as he pleaded, "Miss...Miss Sean, please forgive me..."

Mabel chuckled, casually sweeping her hair back before saying lightly, "Are you supposed to apologize to me?"

The meaning behind her words was clear – she wanted them to apologize to me.

Harvey gritted his teeth, awkwardly holding his cup as he said, "Mason Raymond...sorry, I shouldn’t have done something to hurt you. If you wish, I can give Lyla back to you right away!"

Looking at Lyla’s bewildered expression, I felt my stomach turn. Nausea crept through me at the mere thought.

"No need, you can keep such garbage," I replied coldly. "Besides, you don’t need to apologize to me. I won’t care about characters like you."

Hearing my words, anger instantly flashed across Lyla’s face, turning it crimson. She couldn’t believe that I, who had once groveled before her just days ago, was now looking down on her with such disdain.

I could almost read her thoughts. In her mind, I was just a sycophant who should come running at her slightest gesture. She was completely confused by this turn of events.

"Thank you, thank you, I won’t bother you in the future!" Harvey bent into a deep bow, relief evident in his voice, before dragging Lyla away with him.

After they left, Mabel surprised me by asking, "You’re just going to let them go like that?"

I stared coldly after Lyla’s retreating figure. "No, I will take revenge with my own ability."

I knew perfectly well that with one word from me, Mabel could make Harvey and Lyla vanish from this world without a trace. But that wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted Lyla to live with regret of her own making.

The celebration ended at four in the afternoon. The crowd gradually dispersed, leaving only Jasper Thompson at the vast Sean family estate.

Jasper, Mabel, and I sat together at a table, enjoying tea in the quietude that followed the day’s events.

Jasper smiled at Mabel. "Mabel, how is Mr. Sean doing recently?"

Mabel laughed lightly. "Thanks to your luck, he is in robust health."

Jasper sighed. "I have been wanting to visit him, but I just didn’t have the time."

While they chatted, I grew increasingly anxious. The black aura around Jasper’s heart area had spread further since I’d last seen him.

"Uncle, don’t you feel uncomfortable at all?" I couldn’t help asking.

At my question, the smile on Jasper’s face twisted into a grimace.

"Does it ever end!?" he snapped angrily.

I opened my mouth, only to close it again with a bitter smile. I knew that whatever I said now, Jasper would never believe me.

With a sigh, I said, "Uncle, it would be best to stay in River City these few days. If anything happens, come find me."

Jasper sneered. "I don’t think I need someone like you in any situation." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Seeing his reaction, I decided not to press the matter further. I said goodbye to Mabel and left the Sean family estate.

As I walked away, Mabel watched my retreating figure thoughtfully. Eventually, a meaningful smile curled her lips.

"Uncle, I suggest that you listen to Mason’s opinion more," she said, pouring a cup of tea for Jasper.

Although Jasper disliked me, he had to maintain face with the Sean family.

"Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you, okay?" Jasper replied resignedly.

After leaving the estate, I rushed toward the Lucas family home. I had spent the past few days specially refining a medicine for Calvin Lucas.

The drug, named Soul Nourishment Pill, couldn’t revive the dead, but it could effectively prolong life. I always distinguished clearly between gratitude and resentment, never forgetting favors bestowed upon me.

"This is to repay Calvin Lucas for all these years of care," I thought to myself. "From now on, I will have no relation with the Lucas family."

At the Lucas residence, everyone was celebrating gleefully. Maeve Lucas stood at the gate, eagerly waiting for Harvey Brown’s return.

"Why isn’t he back yet?" Maeve asked anxiously as evening approached.

"What’s the rush? Having just reached an agreement with the Sean family, Harvey must be busy arranging things in the company," Holmes Lucas, Lyla’s father, laughed.

"True," Maeve nodded.

At that moment, I approached from a distance.

Upon seeing me, Maeve and Holmes’s eyes widened in shock.

"What are you here for?!" Maeve stepped forward, blocking my path.

"You can get lost now! I must say, our Lucas family is not that easy to get close to!" Holmes started yelling.

"Exactly, Lyla now belongs to the Sean family. You better stay away!" Maeve snorted dismissively.
