Chapter 139: Chapter 139 - Final Promise
On the other end of the line, Lyla Lucas sneered, "He’s dying, whether you want to see him or not is up to you."
After tossing out this sentence, she promptly hung up the call.
My expression turned ugly in an instant, and I subconsciously stood up.
"Mr. Raymond, what’s wrong?" Victor Green noticed and quickly hurried over to ask.
I took a deep breath and said, "Give me the car keys, I need to go out."
"Where? I’ll come with you," Victor hastily replied.
"No need," I shook my head.
Taking the car keys, I quickly headed towards the Lucas family residence.
I drove fast, and within minutes, I arrived at the entrance of the Lucas family home.
Several cars were already parked at the entrance, clearly indicating that the Lucas family relatives had all arrived.
After casually parking the car, I rushed towards the Lucas home.
The moment I set foot inside the front door, I saw many Lucas family relatives gathered together, but there was no sign of sorrow on their faces. Instead, everyone was smiling, as if it was a casual family reunion.
"What are you doing here!" Holmes Lucas stood up and yelled angrily the moment he spotted me.
"Get the hell out, you’re not part of our family anymore!"
I paid no attention to him, instead coldly asking, "Where’s Grandpa?"
"What does it concern you? This is a family matter, it has nothing to do with you!" Holmes said indifferently.
"Where is Grandpa!" I roared.
My raging shout was filled with spiritual power, shocking everyone so much their ears hurt.
Holmes was even shivering with fear, momentarily unable to respond angrily.
"He is... inside the house, why are you yelling," Holmes stammered.
Upon hearing this, I hurried towards the room.
In the bedroom, Calvin Lucas was lying alone in bed.
None of the Lucas family members had come to look after him.
I quickly walked over, crouched in front of Calvin Lucas and said with sadness, "Grandpa, you..."
Before I could finish speaking, Calvin Lucas waved his hand.
He shakily said, "Mason, I...won’t live much longer, I just wanted to see you one last time before I die..."
I felt a wave of sorrow wash over me. In the whole Lucas family, only Calvin Lucas had ever treated me as a person.
After many years together, it was impossible not to have developed feelings.
Looking over, I could see a wave of death energy surrounding Calvin Lucas.
The intensity of the death energy exceeded my imagination.
This was clearly a sign of imminent death.
I gritted my teeth, raised my hand and placed it in front of Calvin Lucas, pouring my qi into his body.
But unfortunately, Calvin Lucas was already at death’s door, only a breath away from dying, and even I could do nothing to save him.
Calvin Lucas spoke with difficulty, "Don’t waste your effort... Mason, I know the Lucas family has wronged you, but could you spare them for my sake..."
I faltered, having indeed considered wiping out the Lucas family.
"Promise me..." Calvin Lucas grabbed my wrist tightly, his tone pleading.
Ultimately, I couldn’t refuse his final wish.
I took a deep breath, nodded and said, "Grandpa, I promise you, as long as the Lucas family doesn’t provoke me, I can spare them."
Hearing these words, Calvin Lucas slowly said, "Then I can rest in peace, rest in peace..."
As he spoke, Calvin Lucas’s breath grew weaker and weaker until it disappeared completely.
He lay there motionless on the bed.
I couldn’t help feeling a hint of sorrow.
Among all the members of the Lucas family, it was me, an outsider, who was with the old man at his final moment.
"These people truly are disgusting," I muttered, listening to the noise in the living room with an icy expression.
I turned around and left old man Lucas’s room for the living room.
Upon seeing me enter, the room suddenly went quiet.
"Finished looking? You can leave now," Maeve Lucas scoffed.
I took a deep breath and said, "Old man Lucas is gone. I will leave after his funeral."
"Damn, finally, he dragged it out for too long," Christian Lucas, Holmes Lucas’s older brother, mumbled.
"Ok, ok, we gathered here with difficulty, we have to have a good drink after dad’s funeral!" Holmes cheerfully commented.
"Must do it, how long has it been since we brothers see each other! Since I went to Shiglance City, it’s been over ten years, right?"
The family members started chatting casually, with no one caring about old man Lucas’s death.
I sat on the side in silence, my eyes half closed, trying to calm myself down.
Just then, a young man walked through the door.
The young man was about the same age as me, with a confident and spirited look on his face.
"Oh, Daxon, you’ve finally returned!" Upon seeing the figure, everyone in the room quickly stood up to greet him.
The young man named Daxon nodded slightly and said flatly, "Yes, I had duties, so I came back a bit late."
"No problem, business comes first," Holmes said enthusiastically.
Soon after, Holmes cautiously asked, "Daxon, you must have a high position in the battle zone now?"
Daxon glanced at him and said lightly, "Yes, I hold the rank of three bars."
"Three bars!" Upon hearing this, everyone took a sharp breath!
"Oh, Daxon, you are really amazing!"
"From now on, we must look up to Daxon!"
At this time, Daxon’s father Christian deliberately asked, "Daxon, why have so many soldiers arrived in River City recently? Is there a big shot coming?"
Daxon nodded slightly and said, "Yes, the Deputy Chief of the Chuzzle Battle Zone will be in River City in the next few days."
"Deputy Chief?" On hearing this, everyone was even more astonished!
This was a really influential figure!
"Why would such a big person come to River City?" Holmes asked in surprise.
Daxon said, "Heard it’s to invite someone, who is said to be very accomplished in medicine and martial arts, but I don’t know exactly who."
"Wow, who is that impressive, making the Deputy Chief come to invite them?" The room erupted with chatter.
As the room was buzzing with talk, Daxon suddenly noticed me sitting not too far away.
He frowned and asked casually, "Who’s that?"
Everyone’s gaze immediately turned towards me.
"Oh, him? He’s your sister’s ex-husband, who married into our Lucas family, but now kicked out, a complete fool, pay him no mind," Holmes sneered.
Daxon’s face suddenly became unhappy, apparently thinking I was being arrogant for not standing to greet him.
With this thought, Daxon approached me.
"Don’t you know you should stand up to greet me when you see me coming? Is your ass particularly heavy?" Daxon coldly said.
Hearing this, I slowly opened my eyes.
I glanced at Daxon and frowned, saying, "Greet? What are you that requires me to greet you?"
