Chapter 85: 85- Final Goodbye

Every now and then, Sienna’s eyes kept drifting towards Hunter. His sleeves were now rolled up to his forearms, and he was sitting in her office like he owned the damn place.

How did he use to pull it off this easily?

"You’ve been staring at me for the last five minutes," Hunter spoke without lifting his eyes from the screen.

Sienna immediately looked down at the papers, "You must be hallucinating."

A faint smile appeared on his lips, and before he could tease her further, there was a knock at the door. Nora peeked inside nervously.

"The contractor from Brisa corporation is here. They need clarification regarding the revised file."

Hunter finally looked up from his laptop, "Now?"

Nora nodded quickly.

"Send him in and I can..." Sienna trailed off when Hunter raised his hand.

"Let me handle him," He closed his laptop halfway before getting to his feet, "I’ll be back in ten minutes," He told Sienna.

She nodded, keeping herself busy... but the moment the door closed behind him, her expression changed.

She quickly grabbed her phone and dialed Tom’s number. The call was answered in one ring.

"Sienna?" He sounded surprised, "Wow. I didn’t think you’d actually call me."

As his ex-wife, she could almost picture him leaning back into his seat with that stupid smile. She tried to push away the image and forced a shaky breath out before speaking.

"T...Tom..."

The worry in her voice made him go silent.

"What happened?" There was concern in his voice, "Are you crying?"

Sienna pressed her lips and then let out a small hiccup, "N...no... it’s nothing."

"Sienna... love..."

She winced at his words and let out another broken breath, "I ... just..." her voice turned shaky, "I tried helping Ruby because she doesn’t have a job right now, but she didn’t even come to the office today."

Tom went silent on the other end, "I fought Hunter to give her this job. We both lost our father, Tom... but... I’m still here working while Ruby is... I don’t know where she is."

Tom cursed under his breath but then quickly apologized, "I’m sorry, I know how you feel. Don’t stress yourself, love. You’re already dealing with a lot."

Sienna closed her eyes briefly, and then she let out a sudden gasp, "Oh, God. Hunter’s here," she whispered in panic, "I’ll talk to you later."

She didn’t hear his response and quickly disconnected the call.

"Urgh!" She tossed the phone on the desk and closed her eyes, resting her head back. When her phone pinged, she straightened, thinking it was Tom again.

Lina’s name flashed on the phone screen.

Your mother and sister are up to something. They made a call to Greyson and asked him to come over.

With a frown, Sienna sighed, "Fine! I think it’s time."

"What’re you doing here?" Sienna asked Greyson right outside her parents’ house, taking him by surprise, "I thought your job was done."

Dr. Greyson had just gotten out of his car when Sienna cornered him with a cold expression on her face.

Greyson adjusted his glasses nervously, "S...Sienna... what are you doing here...?"

"I asked first," She whispered sharply, "You better tell me the truth, or I’ll report you to the authorities."

Greyson glanced toward the house behind her and lowered his voice, "You must have misunderstood it. I think Mariana isn’t well. That’s why she called me here."

Sienna made a face and clicked her tongue inside her cheek, "Wow. So, a busy surgeon like you is visiting homes because widows are having panic attacks. Interesting."

The man’s face stiffened for a second. Sienna stepped closer, "Tell me something, Doctor. How long are you planning to babysit my family?"

"I don’t know what you’re talking about..." he trailed off when saw Sienna already heading inside.

I need to leave this country along with my family. He told himself.

No matter how good our plans are, she’s always there to destroy them. I can’t afford it. I might lose my job, fame, and my family. Moreover, my respect. Masons are not worth my time anymore.

He hurriedly walked past Sienna when saw her observing a painting near the door. He wanted to warn Mariana that her evil daughter was here.

The moment Mariana saw him, she rushed to him with a crying face, "Oh, Greyson. What’s going on?"

Greyson tried to tip his head sideways and rolled his eyes to tell them secretly that he wasn’t alone and that Sienna was behind him.

Both women were so dense-headed that instead of understanding what he was trying to say, they started crying.

"Sienna’s is here!" He told them in a low whisper, but they didn’t want to listen.

"He hasn’t reached the village!" Mariana wailed, "Your man David... contact him. Ask him... what the fuck is wrong with you and your asshole David!" Mariana screamed by the end of it in sheer frustration.

"Mom!"

They all froze when they heard Sienna’s voice.

Mariana gulped and looked at her daughter, who stood there with pain and surprise etched on her face.

She closed her eyes, and when she opened them, Sienna came to her and pulled her into a fierce hug, "Oh, Mom. Please. You need to get hold of your emotions. Papa is no more, and you need to accept that."

Her eyes turned ice cold as she looked at Ruby, "You didn’t attend the office, and I thought it was okay because you were taking care of mom. But you are crying with her. What’s wrong with you?"

Ruby didn’t speak and looked down.

Greyson cleared his throat, "She... she is in denial, Sienna. After organ donation, they were not allowed to see him, maybe that’s the reason they aren’t accepting it."

Sienna pouted and fished her phone out of her purse, "Here," her phone opened with a click, "I took Papa’s pictures when he lay in the coffin. Look at that and tell this to your heart, Mom, that he is no more."

Her voice broke with tears as she showed the screen to her mom. Mariana gave a confused look to her daughter, who smiled and raised one shoulder casually, "Sorry. I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to say my final goodbye. Though none of us were allowed, I secretly took these pictures so that..." Sienna’s eyes welled up with tears, "So that I can look at them at night before going to bed and tell him how much I’ve achieved in life."

Mariana and Ruby’s mouths hung open in surprise, and then Mariana fainted and fell on the floor with a thud.
