Chapter 523: Chapter 523 Avery’s Brutal Questioning

After the call with their Odium Syndicate contact was over, Avery got up from the captain’s chair and headed to the brig.

Around seven hours ago, their prisoner had woken up after his treatment was finished.

Being a spy that had been captured, the man had immediately tried to attack and take Doctor Raiti hostage.

She had the appearance of a feeble young woman, so it made sense that she would end up as a target.

Of course, appearances could be deceptive.

Short though she may be, Mercedes had augmented her own body to an astounding degree. She had more physical strength than even a non-enhanced bahnen. The spy had never stood a chance.

Once he had been dealt with, some security personnel led by Ezra had brought him to the brig where he was detained an interrogated.

Naturally, the man had remained silent and offered them nothing so far.

Avery had even allowed Kaiden to have another go at the man to persuade him to talk, but he was prepared for such occurrences.

Doctor Raiti’s examination had uncovered several counterintelligence implants within the man’s body.

He had one that flooded his system with massive quantities of endorphins to dull pain, and others designed to denature truth serums that were injected into him.

It was standard stuff for someone acting as a spy.

There had also been an implant attached to his heart that he could activate to kill himself, but Doctor Raiti had made sure it was disabled and removed before the guy woke up.

As for the other implants, she was confident she could disable them with some time, but there was a slight risk that messing with a couple of them could turn the spy into a vegetable or outright kill him.

One of the implants was apparently fused with his spine, while another was lodged deeply in his brain.

She had complained to Avery that it was all such sloppy work, but he honestly did not care.

Waiting around while Doctor Raiti tried to remove or disable the implants did not sit right with Avery.

There were potentially more spies onboard his ship, and he wanted to know about them as soon as possible.

The small chance that the man perished during the operation was also something he was not willing to risk right now.

If his interrogation method failed, it would not be too late to try other methods afterwards.

"Clear the room. I want to talk to him alone. No one is allowed to come in unless I give them permission." Avery said as soon as he entered the brig.

All of the regular crew members rushed out without a second thought after seeing the look on their captain’s face.

However, Ezra and Kaiden did not leave so easily.

"I want to be here for this. That guy is part of the group that killed my family and is hunting me and my sister. I’ve got questions for him that I need answered." Kaiden said, his face a mess of different emotions.

Ezra on the other hand looked as stoic as ever. The only hint of emotion he was showing was a bit of worry in his eyes.

"Personally, I don’t think you need to force yourself to do this. He’s already proven to be resistant to physical persuasion. I believe that letting Doctor Raiti handle his implants first is our best option. She is exceptional in her field, and I don’t doubt that the risks she speaks of are minor enough to hardly consider."

Avery glanced between the two of them and considered their words.

Yet, after a few moments to think, he made up his mind.

"Sorry, I’ve got to do this alone." Avery said, his face a stony mask.

"Kaiden, when the man’s willing to answer questions, I’ll call you in. And Ezra, I’m not planning on hurting the man. What I’ve got in mind is something a bit special."

"Very well. But do not force yourself to do something you aren’t comfortable with. This isn’t worth you losing sleep over." Ezra said, relenting and leaving. With Kaiden following behind him a second later.

Avery could tell that his second-in-command was worried for his mental state. Still, this was something he needed to do, and there was an aspect of his psionic abilities that he wanted to test out.

What he was going to do was not something he would try on most people. But a captured spy was not someone he would offer any mercy to.

"This is a surprise. I didn’t expect the boss to show up personally. But I’m not going to tell you anything. You might as well hand me over to the Alliance Police or kill me already." The spy spiteful spat at Avery.

He was a Mustela Therianthrope and had a thin and long body.

Currently he was tightly chained to a table. With the cuffs attached to his hands and legs digging deeply into his skin.

His race was known to be slippery and flexible. Had his restraints been any looser, he would have been able to slip out of them.

"I’m afraid you won’t be getting away with this so easily. Death would be too kind, and obviously I’m not going to let you live out your days in an Alliance Police prison."

Avery did not make any demands yet. He understood that would be pointless. Instead, he got started.

With blinding speed, he jammed his right index and middle finger into the spy’s left should right above his collarbone.

The man winced, but the pain was numbed thanks to his implant, so he simply endured.

Of course, Avery was not trying to inflict pain. He just needed to be in direct contact with what he was searching for. What he was doing was complicated and something he had never tried before.

"Found it."

Avery opened his fingers a bit and then closed them together like a pair of scissors.

A moment later, the spy’s entire left arm went limp and lost all sensation.
