Chapter 1049: Chapter 1049: Unfamiliar Dependence

Stella Charlie spent a week in darkness, gradually getting used to the blackness and the fact of being abandoned.

After losing her sight, her hearing seemed sharper than before.

She could clearly distinguish between the footsteps of the attending physician, the nurse, and that charming stranger.

The sound of a man’s leather shoes tread on the floor, neither too light nor too heavy, coming from afar to near.

He came again, later than the previous days.

He would only look at her from the doorway each day, and if the nurse was there, he would occasionally call the nurse over to ask about her condition, but he never entered the room to speak directly to her.

Yet, his arrival had unknowingly become something Stella Charlie anticipated daily.

Vincent Warner came to the hospital to check Stella Charlie’s condition after finishing a morning meeting due to company matters.

The nurse was not there at the moment, with only Stella Charlie lying alone in the room.

Stella Charlie seemed to hear something at the door, and she turned her head slightly towards the door.

Vincent Warner hesitated to step forward to the bedside, just when he was pondering how to speak, Stella Charlie asked first: "Who are you?"

This was Vincent Warner’s first time hearing Stella Charlie speak, her clear and sweet voice sounded very pleasant.

After a few seconds of silence, Vincent Warner apologized: "I’m sorry, the rain was too heavy that night, I..."

Stella Charlie softly interrupted him and asked, "I mean, what’s your name? How should I address you?"

Before Vincent Warner could answer, the nurse’s voice was heard from the doorway: "Mr. Warner, you’ve come?"

Vincent Warner nodded and asked the nurse, "Have you done the rounds?"

"Yes, Miss Charlie’s vital signs have basically returned to normal, we just need to observe for a few more days and she can be discharged."

Vincent Warner glanced at Stella Charlie’s eyes, seemed to want to ask something, but merely instructed the nurse to take good care of her, hesitated and left the room.

After arriving at Dr. Linton’s office, Vincent Warner frankly asked, "When is the earliest her eyes can have surgery?"

Dr. Linton sighed and said, "Currently, the main issue is the lack of corneal donors, I can’t say when the surgery will be done, but I will notify you first once there’s news."

"Okay." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

After Vincent Warner left, Stella Charlie fell into silence once again.

She lay on the bed with headphones on, closing her eyes, falling asleep to the music and waking up to the music.

Repeating this monotonous cycle, waiting for the arrival of the next day.

Yet, what awaited her the next day were unfamiliar footsteps.

A somewhat coarse masculine voice conversing with the nurse, inquiring about similar topics as before.

Unable to restrain herself, Stella Charlie interjected, "Why hasn’t he come?"

The man and the nurse were both momentarily stunned, after realizing who "he" referred to, the man respectfully replied, "President Warner went abroad on a business trip last night, he won’t be back for a couple of days, so he specially sent me to check on the situation."

Stella Charlie put on her headphones again to listen to music, asking no more questions.

Her heart felt a sense of disappointment over dashed expectations, but having grown up in such a family environment, she was already accustomed to digesting and adjusting those negative emotions.

She understood she shouldn’t have such dependency emotions on a stranger.

In the evening, as the nurse helped her wipe her body and change clothes, she happily told her she could be discharged in two days.

Listening to this, Stella Charlie felt lost inside.

After discharge, where could she go?

Was there still a place for her in that home?

Should she really give up her dream of university and make a living by working?

But she had just graduated from high school, without any skills, and now she couldn’t see, what could she do?

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to work hard, but sometimes life is really difficult...
