Chapter 1047: Chapter 1047: Evening Star Arc, Rainy Night Car Accident

On a summer night with thunderstorms, the windshield wipers kept scraping away the rainwater.

In the pitch-black night, a girl suddenly dashed out from behind the van parked at the alley entrance...

"Bang—"

Immediately after, the piercing sound of brakes screeched, and the man pretending to sleep in the back seat frowned and opened his eyes.

Looking at the girl lying motionless in front of the car, the driver panicked, trembling as he pushed open the car door, ignoring the pouring rain outside, and quickly walked towards the girl.

Vincent Warner picked up the umbrella by the door, opened it, and got out of the car to check.

"Miss, miss?" the driver’s voice trembled.

Vincent Warner looked at the blood mixed with rainwater flowing around, and said in a deep voice, "Quickly take her to the hospital."

The driver hurriedly carried the girl into the car, and as Vincent Warner turned to get into the car, he suddenly saw a red booklet soaked in rainwater.

He bent down to pick it up; it was an admission letter from Rivia University.

After getting into the car, the driver quickly drove towards the hospital.

Vincent Warner sat in the front passenger seat, looking at the girl lying motionless in the back seat, and let out a sigh.

He looked down at the wet admission letter in his hand.

Stella Charlie, admitted to the finance major.

He wondered why a girl who had just received an admission letter from a prestigious university would venture out alone in the rain at night.

He only hoped the girl would be okay.

Outside the hospital emergency room, Vincent Warner contacted the girl’s family through the police.

After the girl’s parents arrived, they did not show concern for the girl’s current condition.

Instead, seeing Vincent Warner’s appearance as a wealthy person, they started discussing compensation.

Vincent Warner initially intended to resolve the issue with money, so when the girl’s mother aggressively demanded a one-million-dollar compensation, he readily agreed.

To avoid entanglements, both parties signed an agreement of reconciliation, promising that the compensator would bear no further liability after the compensation was paid.

The girl’s mother felt she had underpriced their demand seeing how readily Vincent agreed.

But thinking that a worthless life could be exchanged for one million, which was money they could hardly earn in their lifetime, made it worthwhile.

Having handed the follow-up matters to his legal team, Vincent Warner left the hospital.

He thought the matter was settled, but unexpectedly received a call from the hospital at noon the next day.

"Mr. Warner, I’m sorry to bother you, but regarding Miss Charlie, you might need to come to the hospital again."

"What’s wrong? Did she not survive?"

"... No, it’s just that we can’t reach Miss Charlie’s family, and we had no choice but to call you. It seems the family is unwilling to pay for Miss Charlie’s treatment, not even the hospitalization fee, let alone the subsequent treatment costs."

Vincent Warner frowned; although he sensed their greed yesterday,

he thought that the treatment costs would at most be two or three hundred thousand, and they could do as they pleased with the rest of the money.

He never expected parents to be so heartless.

"Proceed with whatever arrangements and treatment you see fit; I’ll come to the hospital to pay later."

"Okay, thank you, Mr. Warner. The police are already handling this matter as well."

"Alright." Vincent Warner paused and asked, "How is she doing?"

"She’s temporarily out of life-threatening danger, but there could be other aftereffects. We have to wait for Miss Charlie to wake up."

"Okay. Thank you for your hard work."

Although Vincent Warner was disgusted by Stella Charlie’s parents’ actions, it was clear she was a neglected and pitiful girl.

He couldn’t bear to be as indifferent as her parents.

Closing the file in his hand that he hadn’t finished reading, he took his car keys and drove to the hospital.
