Chapter 893: Chapter 893: He Refuses to Let Go...

Quickly, the two arrived at a nearby café and took seats.

After each ordered a cup of coffee, and the waiter brought them over, Arnold looked at Ethan Sterling and spoke directly: "Ethan, I want to talk to you about whether we can not be engaged?"

Before Ethan could say anything, Arnold continued, "Ethan, I grew up with you. In my eyes, you are my buddy, my good brother... Over the years, I’ve only seen you as a brother, and I hope you see me only as your sister..."

Ethan was stunned for a moment, then smiled.

Sure enough, he hadn’t guessed wrong; what was meant to come had indeed come.

Just a brother, sister?

Maybe Monica had always seen him as a brother, but he had never regarded Monica as a sister!

Ethan’s smile was bitter, with a hint of self-mockery, "Monica, couldn’t you tell all these years that I’ve really liked you?"

"Even if you couldn’t tell, haven’t I already expressed my true feelings to you?"

Arnold: "..."

Before, she really didn’t know Ethan’s feelings towards her.

Because Ethan never told her, and because she was entirely focused on the big boss, she had never been in a relationship and was half-ignorant about feelings.

She only learned that Ethan liked her—and had liked her for many years, longer even than she liked the big boss—after Elder Moore mentioned engagement, and Ethan came himself to tell her.

Arnold had been shocked, and upon learning Ethan’s feelings, she immediately told him that she already had someone she liked.

But Ethan said he didn’t mind and even said he would surely make Arnold forget that man and come to like him...

Ethan looked at Arnold with deep affection and pain, continuing to reveal his feelings, "Monica, the way I like you is not a brother’s affection for a sister—it’s a man’s love for a woman!"

Saying this, Ethan excitedly grabbed Arnold’s hand, "Monica, from the beginning to the end, I’ve never treated you as a sister. I’ve always thought you would be my wife, ever since I was very young."

Arnold lowered her head and withdrew her hand from Ethan’s grasp, "I’m sorry, Ethan, I already have someone I like."

"Ha ha, so again, you have someone you like." Ethan looked at Arnold, questioning, "Monica, the person you like is Laurant Foster, right?"

Arnold nodded, admitting, "Yes!"

Ethan scoffed, "I knew that despicable man would interfere!"

Arnold’s expression was unhappy as she defended Mark, speaking out, "Ethan, don’t speak of him that way; he’s not the kind of person you say!"

"Isn’t he?" Ethan’s dark eyes glinted with fierceness, "If he isn’t a despicable man, why did he hurt you before, and now he hears we’re getting engaged and comes out to disrupt it?"

Arnold looked at Ethan, explaining, "He didn’t hurt me before, it’s just he hadn’t fallen in love with me yet..."

"Now he’s fallen in love with you?" Ethan retorted, then continued, "Monica, believe me, love is always pure. Loved means loved, not loved means not loved, no one will not love at first and then suddenly love later!"

"He just can’t stand for you to be well, can’t stand for you and me to be engaged. He hopes you’ll continue chasing after him, so he’s come out to disrupt our engagement!"

After stating this firmly, Ethan continued to express his feelings, "Monica, I’ve liked you, loved you, since I was very young. The problem is, you never saw me in your eyes..."

"Monica, I’ve always repressed my feelings for you, dared not confess because I was afraid. Afraid once I confessed, we couldn’t even stay friends..."

Arnold looked at Ethan, wanting to say something.

But before Arnold could speak, Ethan looked at her again and asked, "Do you know, Monica? Do you know how happy I was when Uncle Moore said we’d be engaged?"

Then, without waiting for Arnold to respond, Ethan continued excitedly, "I thought that finally heaven had seen my true heart, so Uncle Moore picked me. I thought you had finally seen my goodness..."

Talking, Ethan bitterly smiled again, "Ha ha, but when I happily ran to your house, when I shared my joy with you, you said you wanted to find Uncle Moore, saying you already had someone you liked..."

"Ethan, I’m sorry." Arnold apologized again, "I’m sorry for my father suggesting engagement to you, for not firmly opposing it before."

Later, Arnold explained, "Before, the boss hadn’t realized he liked me, and I, disheartened, thought—except for the boss—engaging with anyone didn’t matter?"

"So, I didn’t insist."

"But now the boss already likes me and has expressed his feelings..."

Arnold looked at Ethan and sincerely spoke, "Ethan, I hope our engagement can be canceled, hope you’ll fulfill this for me."

Saying these words, Arnold knew she would hurt Ethan.

But to get Ethan to agree not to be engaged with her, Arnold had no choice.

Moreover, Arnold clearly knew that she couldn’t give Ethan the love he wanted, and eventually, she would hurt him.

Now Arnold only hoped Ethan could understand, hoped he could fulfill her wish, also sincerely wishing Ethan could meet a girl who truly liked him, whom he also liked...

After Arnold finished speaking, the two fell into a prolonged silence.

Ethan just stared at Arnold and finally said decisively, "Monica, our engagement was personally decided by the head, I can’t disobey the head’s orders."

"So, sorry Monica, in this matter, I cannot, and will not, fulfill your wish."

Then, Ethan grasped Arnold’s hand again, "Monica, ever since I knew we’d be engaged, I decided I would never let go of your hand in this lifetime!"

Arnold withdrew her hand, "Ethan, you..."

Ethan held tightly to Arnold’s small hand, spoke painfully and deeply, "Monica, don’t you know the heartbreak of getting something only to lose it again? I can’t bear that kind of pain, so I’ll just be selfish then."

After speaking, without waiting for Arnold to say anything, Ethan stood up and left...

Arnold was speechless.

Before the big boss didn’t like her, they couldn’t be together.

Now that the big boss liked her, this whole troublesome situation emerged. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Elder Moore, mommy, and grandparents were hard to persuade, Ethan was equally immovable, sigh, the worry was killing her.
