Chapter 885: Chapter 885: The Stand-In’s Child Comes Knocking Again...
Mark looked at Ethan Sterling coldly, "Is that so?"
"Yes!" Ethan replied firmly, looking directly into Mark’s eyes with a cold gaze, stating his position, "I’ve liked Monica since we were young. So, it’s absolutely impossible for me to give up the engagement!"
Mark clenched his fists, wanting to punch this annoying guy, but his military training made him hold back again.
Ethan smirked, staring icily at Mark, fearlessly stating the facts, "Besides, my engagement to Monica was approved by General Moore and agreed upon by both families. And there’s one more thing I forgot to tell Officer Foster, Monica and I truly love each other!"
After saying this, Ethan’s face displayed a victorious, smug smile, "Although Officer Foster doesn’t need to worry about my engagement to Monica, as Monica’s former boss, Officer Foster, don’t forget to come and have a drink at our wedding!"
Mark grabbed Ethan’s collar, speaking coldly, "I told you, Arnold will not get engaged to you. Didn’t you hear it clearly?"
Ethan also grabbed Mark’s collar, "I also made it very clear, whether Monica will get engaged to me, isn’t for Officer Foster to decide!"
Having said that, Ethan continued, "Not to mention that the families have already settled it, and my engagement to Monica is a done deal, with no room for change. Let’s talk about why Officer Foster is here today, and in what capacity are you saying these things to me? Hmm?"
Mark: "..."
Ethan let out a cold laugh, releasing the grip on Mark’s collar.
Then, Ethan glanced at Mark’s hand gripping his collar and said coldly, "Officer Foster, can you let go now?"
Mark let go.
Ethan turned and got into the car.
Mark’s dark eyes were stormy...
He watched as Ethan’s car passed his and left, his fists clenched tightly.
Why?
What right does he have to interfere in Arnold’s engagement?
Just because Arnold was the girl he saved more than ten years ago, he couldn’t let Arnold be taken advantage of by such a shameless guy like Ethan!
But, is it really just that?
Mark drove away, heading to a bar for a drink.
He sat alone in the dim light, drinking one bitter glass after another.
He missed Melody, but somehow, Melody’s face always inexplicably turned into Arnold’s little face.
And slowly, only Arnold’s little face remained in his mind.
Especially when sitting in this dimly lit bar, drinking, and some woman came to flirt with him, Mark couldn’t help but remember the countless drunken nights, where that girl quietly stayed by his side, watching over him...
After being approached by the third woman, Mark stood up irritably and asked for a private room.
In the private room, after drinking a few more glasses of wine, Mark took out his phone and sent a message to Benjamin Parker.
[Darling, how have you been lately?]
After sending the message, Benjamin quickly replied, [Godfather, I’m good, brother, Mia, and mommy are all good. How about you? How have you been lately?]
Mark had just finished reading this message when Benjamin’s second message came in, [Godfather, have you found a godmother for me yet?]
Thinking of Benjamin’s cool little face, a warmth and affection filled Mark’s eyes.
He picked up his wine glass, downed the red wine inside, and then replied to Benjamin, [Should be soon, after all, the six-month deadline your godmother gave me is almost up.]
Benjamin: [Oh.]
Then, Benjamin quickly sent a gossip emoji.
Before Mark could reply, Benjamin immediately sent another message, [Godfather, is the chosen godmother that cross-dressing, very chic little auntie?]
Mark: [...]
Benjamin: [So, I guessed right?!]
Mark always knew Benjamin was very smart, especially intelligent, but he had just discovered his own feelings. How did his darling guess it?
Seeing no reply from Mark, Benjamin quickly sent another message.
[Godfather, that little auntie is pretty nice-looking, you must seize the chance, and don’t let her down!]
That night, Mark stayed in the bar for a long time, chatted a lot with Benjamin, and drank quite a bit.
When he left the bar, Mark was already very drunk.
Drunkenly returning to the apartment, Mark didn’t even make it to the bedroom, he just slumped directly onto the living room sofa and immediately fell into a deep sleep...
The next morning, before Mark could wake up from his hangover, there was a knock on the apartment door.
Mark rubbed his head, stood up, and opened the door.
As the door opened, a woman dressed seductively and a boy who bore a striking resemblance to Mark appeared before him.
Seeing the woman and child standing at the door, Mark immediately frowned.
But before Mark could say anything, the boy chirped, "Daddy!"
Mark was bewildered.
He’s not this child’s dad!
Mark looked at the woman, just about to say something, when the woman spoke first, "Kaleb, it’s been so many days. Have you found the stand-in you mentioned?"
"Not yet. His phone hasn’t been reachable lately, and I don’t know where he’s gone. But don’t worry, Lucy, I’ll find him." Mark said truthfully.
The woman looked at Mark with disbelief, "Kaleb, I think this supposed stand-in is just a fabrication, isn’t it? You’re just refusing to acknowledge your son!"
Mark was so angry he almost spat blood.
Is he the kind of jerk who would have a kid and not admit it?
He’s literally saved his first time for his future wife, only to be unfairly burdened with being a dad.
And more outrageously, his stand-in dared to go missing!
Mark thought angrily: Once I find that stand-in, I’ll beat him so hard he’ll be unrecognizable to his parents!
Still, no matter how I plan to deal with the stand-in later, these troublesome matters need addressing now, before he’s found.
Thinking this, Mark pulled out a card, "Lucy, the child truly is the stand-in’s, but until I find him, I can give you some money."
Lucy snatched the card, "Kaleb, why couldn’t you have done this earlier? I never wanted to marry you anyway."
