Chapter 47: Trainee Knight Class
Alex walked through the streets of Nyxare while looking around with curious eyes.
Even though the city seemed to be pulled out from some gothic drama, the people were completely different.
Most of them had happy faces and were truly enjoying their life or at least that was what he could gauge from the way they walked, talked, and reacted.
Though seeing them, a bit of somberness rose in his heart. After all, he couldn’t be part of those people.
The civilians – at least according to the common conscience and Villain’s Ascension – weren’t actually real. All of them were images created by Origin Dominion to play its game.
Every species – Humans, Elves, Werefolk, Dragons, Giants, Demons, so on – was forced to play its game and it was the one who decided everything.
But for Alex things were even weirder because of the title he had.
Primum Horrendi. The First of the Horrible.
To everyone, he was something that couldn’t be classified, something that couldn’t be understood—a terrible existence destined to be alone forever.
As he was still weak and Prime Paradox was still Novice: Tier I, the effect of Primum Horrendi wasn’t too much for people who were stronger than him but with time he would become stronger so would the effect, and someday, no one would be able to resist his terrible presence... or so he believed would happen.
Alex wanted to be free and strong, but he didn’t want to be alone. However, fate and destiny weren’t something he could yet fight against.
And above all he couldn’t even think of fighting Origin Dominion... he still remembered the feeling when it had just thought about him for a moment.
To put it into words, the experience was no different than an ant being stared down by a mighty dragon.
He trembled upon remembering that horrible event and once again focused on his surroundings, completely unaware that he was clenching his left fist so hard that blood was dripping from it.
The very civilians who were either smiling or frowning stepped away in terror upon seeing him.
Some of them even froze in pure horror and some raised weapons toward him.
Done with the stupid situation, he walked toward a dark spot and entered his shadow.
Using the invisible network between the shadows, he moved across the city much faster than before but now everything was different.
This makes me feel short. Alex mentally shook his head and soon reached his destination.
It was a building way larger than Haestus Forgery and it had blue banners hanging across its walls.
All of the banners had a single insignia on them: A white owl sitting atop a black fort.
It was the insignia of the City Knight Order.
The streets around this place were comparatively empty and the building’s doors were wide open.
Without wasting any time, Alex stepped out of his shadow and entered the building.
As he entered, his gaze fell on the premium furniture and leather sofas placed beside the walls and then he shifted his eyes toward the only person sitting beside a desk with a faint smile on his face.
That person was George Mirons. A knight belonging to the Order.
"Hello there, have you come to report anyone?" George asked warmly.
Alex shook his head and answered, "No, I want to become a knight."
Just as those words left his lips, a golden screen appeared before him.
[System: Trait (All and None) is in effect!]
What? Alex’s eyes widened and his mouth opened even wider.
George frowned and asked in a suspicious tone, "Are you sure?"
His voice pulled Alex out of his reverie and he answered, "Yes."
Still unsure, George asked the final time, "You do know that once you become a knight, you will be given tasks by the order. Tasks which you must fulfill, right?"
That’s exactly what I want. Alex remarked inwardly and nodded, "Yes."
[System: Host Alex you have joined the Sub Class (Trainee Knight)!]
What the hell? A subclass? Isn’t Trainee Knight a main class?
George smiled and placed a parchment on the desk. "Take this to the training grounds in the eastern city."
Alex nodded, took the parchment, and left the building.
"So I can have the main classes as subclasses... that’s crazy," Alex mumbled with a wide grin and stored the parchment in his inventory.
He entered his shadow and streaked away from the building, making his way toward the inner city gates.
The reason he had come to the inner city was that only twenty-five Players could obtain the Knight class by this method and now that he had it, he could put an end to the little game going on in the outer city.
He soon reached the inner city gates and after checking his Adventurer License, the City Knight allowed him to exit.
A few minutes later, he stepped out of his shadow and looked at the Lightbearers’ base.
Just like always, two players stood guard at the doors and he could sense more people inside.
More Players have joined her, he remarked inwardly.
After standing there for a long while, he once again entered his shadow and went inside the building.
"Sir Kael, do you think we can hold out against the Dark Wolves?" Allura asked the person sitting in front of her.
Kael was a Player wearing silver armor with his shoulder-length blonde hair tied into a knot, and a somber look on his face.
His sharp emerald green eyes were locked onto the map of the outer city which had one section with a sword, another with a flame, and the remaining two with a wolf’s face.
Within the past few days, Antonio Corleone had managed to take another part of the outer city under his control.
Meanwhile, Allura One had formed a peace treaty with Free Sword. Though she knew it was only possible because Crela Estrada had entered the inner city.
She herself could enter the inner city but she didn’t wish the Lightbearers to fall apart due to her absence.
As the two worriedly stared at the map, a step resounded throughout the room.
Kael’s instincts screamed, he instantly drew his sword and pointed it at the dark corner.
"W-Who is there?" He questioned with trembling lips.
W-Why am I scared?
The person hiding within the shadows, stepped forward and muttered, "Ah! My bad. I didn’t mean to scare you."
The moment Allura heard that voice, her eyes lit up and she called out, "Sir Alex!"
