Chapter 46: Bronze IV

A few minutes later, Bron and Ystella stood at the forge’s entrance and he asked, "You sure you don’t want to talk to him?"

Ystella’s lips lifted into a faint smile and she nodded, "Yes. There would be no point in meeting him at the moment. I believe if I stay away it would give him more motivation."

"Why do you think so?" He pressed.

She looked at him for a long second and answered in a low voice, "He has a goal similar to mine."

Just as he heard those words, his eyes shone with interest and he mumbled in a dubious tone, "Do you think he can defeat him?"

"Not yet." She shook her head and added, "But with how fast he grows, it won’t be long before he can."

"You trust him too much," He added while frowning.

"Haha. I think the same, maybe I have gone stupid from waiting?"

Instead of answering her, Bron shifted his gaze toward the calm moon and mumbled, "It’s already been a decade huh..."

Ystella’s face darkened, she bit her lower lip tightly, and gave a dejected nod before leaving the place with a pained expression.

Bron watched her leave and mumbled, "I cannot love love but at the same time I cannot hate it either... may our prayers be heard, O’ Master of Night."

As he said those words, his hand moved into his pocket from which he gently took out a picture.

The picture had three figures, the first was Bron who looked way younger than now. The second was a woman with sharp gray eyes and yellow hair with a stern look on her face and the last was a young boy with yellow hair and golden eyes holding a beautiful smile.

It was a family picture... and at the same time, it was a memento which made him remember what he once had.

He silently stared at the picture, a storm of emotions visible behind his eyes, yet all of it only manifested as a sigh as he put it back in his pocket and turned around.

"May our prayers be heard..."

The night soon passed and the sunlight filtering through the open window hit Alex together with the cold breeze of a fresh morning.

Chirpings of birds reached his ears as he rose from his sleep and rubbed his eyes with a confused expression.

"When did I fall asleep... Ah! he had knocked me out," he mumbled as the events of the previous night replayed in his head and he stepped down from the bed.

"At least I am not feeling tired anymore," he remarked and whispered, "Status."

"Hmm..."

I reached Bronze IV last night. Skill level up would’ve given me the same amount of CV as acquiring them, reaching Adept at Shadow affinity would’ve given me 5 and Velcrean is giving me an additional 0.5

His gaze moved toward Velcrean placed on top of the table and he mumbled, "Store."

Red and blue static sparks flew out of the sword before she vanished from her spot.

"This should be enough to defeat him," he muttered as he fixed his clothes and walked out of the room.

As he stepped out of the room, his gaze landed on a person bowing deeply toward him.

"What is it, Yoru?"

"I am here to apologize for acting the way I did," Yoru stated without lifting his head.

Alex walked past him and said, "There’s nothing to apologize for, I’ve already gained way more than what I would’ve been able to purchase. In a way, you unintentionally helped me."

Baffled by his reasoning, Yoru watched him leave with an impassive expression and clenched his fist.

As Alex neared the forge, the sounds of hammers clashing with metal hit him.

"Did you sleep well?" Bron who was waiting for him at the door asked with an uninterested expression.

"All thanks to you, Sir," Alex responded with a smile.

Hearing his shameless reply, Bron snorted and asked, "What are you planning to do?"

Alex rubbed his chin in thought and said, "I am thinking of visiting all of the main schools within the inner city."

"Why is that?" Bron asked curiously.

"Well, I am not sure of what I want to be so I am just going to try everything until something sticks. What do you say?"

It was a lie. Alex already had plans for most things however he first needed to test if he could actually be everything thus anything.

"If you don’t have a path, why would you make me forge a sword? Try harder to fool me, child," Bron snorted and said,

"Yesterday’s spar convinced me that you are abnormally stronger than those of the same stage as you. However, your strength is brutish and your skills are crude. Only when you can refine and align them would you truly reach the strength you are capable of."

As he finished, he took out a dark coin bearing a golden hammer with silver flames at its edge from his pocket and added while offering it to Alex, "Once you’ve reached that stage, come meet me and I’ll ask you the favor... during that time, I’ll also forge you an armor so don’t think that I am being unreasonable."

Alex took the coin and said while grinning, "Don’t worry. I was already planning to come back."
