Chapter 57: The Legendary Player Returns

After settling everything at the university, Lucas suddenly realized he hadn’t visited his dorm in quite a while.

Ever since breaking up with Jessica and obtaining the system, his life had been moving at a ridiculous pace.

Thinking about it, he couldn’t even remember the last time he had simply relaxed with his roommates.

So instead of returning to the hotel, Lucas headed straight toward the boys’ dormitory.

As soon as he pushed open the door, he was greeted by loud shouting.

"Behind you!"

"Fuck, that warning came a bit late, revive me first!"

"Sorry but that guy moved like a pro that I was too focused on trying to get him. But guys damn it! I swear he’s one shot!"

The familiar noise instantly made him smile.

Inside the room, Max, Ben, and Luke were sitting together with their phones in hand.

All three were completely focused on the match. A moment later, Luke accidentally glanced toward the door.

His eyes widened..

"Holy shit!"

"Lucas?"

The other two immediately looked over.

"Bro, you’re actually alive?"

"Look who finally remembered he has roommates!"

The room instantly erupted into laughter. Lucas shook his head and tossed his backpack onto his bed.

When he looked at their screens, his eyes immediately lit up. They were playing call of duty mobile, his favorite game.

Back before Jessica, he used to spend countless nights grinding sweaty ranked matches with the boys.

Unfortunately, after getting into a relationship, almost all his free time had been spent working part-time jobs or spending money on that bitch Jessica.

Thinking about it now, Lucas felt like an idiot. He had sacrificed hobbies, friends, and even sleep just to please someone who never appreciated him.

"What rank are you guys?" Max immediately bragged.

"Legendary."

"We’re pros unlike a certain person who disappeared."

Lucas laughed and downloaded the latest update.

"Bro wants to get ranked up so bad..." Luke teased from the side and they all burst out laughing.

The game had changed a lot. They had brought new weapons, new skins and new maps. After logging in, he nearly choked.

His account had been inactive for so long that his rank had fallen from Top 5000 Legendary all the way down to Master I.

"What the hell?!"

The roommates burst out laughing. "You deserve it!"

After downloading all the required resources and maps, Lucas joined their squad.

Just in time too. A few minutes later, Max’s entire team got wiped and sent back to the lobby.

"You guys are ass." Lucas said with a grin, after all they won’t have made it as far as they did without him, all of a sudden they weren’t playing like the pros they were proclaiming themselves to be just a few minutes ago...

"How is Lucas who haven’t played this game in a while, how is he the one carrying us."

The next several matches became a massacre. It was strange but, even after months of inactivity, Lucas’s game sense hadn’t disappeared.

His movement remained smooth. His aim remained deadly. The moment enemies exposed themselves, they died. The squad’s rank points climbed rapidly.

MVP!

MVP!!

MVP again!!!

After several victories, Lucas suddenly frowned.

"Why are we playing Isolated?"

"Let’s play Alcatraz."

That had always been his favorite map. After all it fast-paced, chaotic, there was constant fighting and also there’s also 5 free respawns which means he doesn’t have to depend entirely on his team gameplay...

The three roommates looked at him strangely.

"Bro..."

"How long has it been since you played?"

Lucas blinked. "What?"

Ben laughed. "Alcatraz got removed ages ago."

"Now everybody plays Rebirth Island."

Lucas was genuinely surprised. ’Rebirth Island huh? That sounds interesting.’

Without hesitation, they queued. The first match started and to their outmost surprise it ended with a victory.

The second match was surprisingly another victory again. Lucas naturally secured MVP both times.

Then came the third game. A random teammate joined their squad.

The moment she spoke, everyone froze.

"Hello."

"Thanks for inviting me."

A girl’s voice. A very pleasant girl’s voice. The dorm instantly became quiet.

Excited that he’s playing with a gamer girl, Max hurriedly wiped his phone screen. Ben adjusted his sitting position and Luke even fixed his hair. They were clearly all focused and planning to lock in on this game...

Lucas stared at them. "What are you idiots doing?"

Max immediately coughed. "Bro."

"We have a request." Lucas already had a bad feeling. "Don’t tell me..."

"Please don’t dominate this game."

Lucas nearly laughed. "What?"

Max looked serious. "She’s a streamer."

"We finally got matched with a girl."

"Let us impress her."

Luke nodded aggressively. "Exactly."

"Stop stealing all the kills."

Lucas couldn’t stop himself from laughing.

These shameless bastards. Still, he agreed. What were roommates for?

Unfortunately... Things didn’t go according to plan.

Rebirth Island was far more chaotic than Lucas expected. Everywhere they landed, enemies appeared.

Teams fought nonstop. The revival flights eventually ended. One by one, Lucas’s teammates died.

Then Max died. Ben died. Luke died. Even the female streamer got eliminated.

Suddenly, Lucas was alone. The entire squad was spectating him.

The streamer herself was watching. Her live chat was exploding.

"Bro, these guys are hacking."

"Why is every squad sweaty?"

"It’s only a matter of time before this last guy gets killed."

Sighing, Lucas slowly sat upright. The lazy look disappeared from his face. ’If he was going to play seriously... Then it was time to lock in.

He immediately rotated toward an airdrop. A few moments later, he swapped his loadout, to his favourite combination which was DL Q33 sniper with BY15 shotgun

The moment he acquired the weapons, his playstyle completely changed.

Every movement flowed naturally. Enemy after enemy fell. Each quick scope snipe was a headshot, it was almost as if Lucas was an hacker. Even the streamer became quiet. She had expected him to die. Instead, he was dismantling entire squads by himself.

"Wait..."

"He’s actually insane."

The viewers in her stream began spamming messages.

"Who is this guy?"

"Invite him again."

"His movement is crazy."

Soon, only two teams remained. Lucas versus four enemies. A true 1v4!

The final safe zone was already shrinking. Gunfire echoed across the map. Lucas calmly threw a smoke grenade. Visibility disappeared instantly making the squad moving together just ahead from him unable to cooperate together properly

With a quick strategy in his mind, he moved.

going just the way he controls it, his codm in-game character, did a quick slide a sharp slide cancel then a jump and a shotgun blast.

The first enemy was Knock.

The streamer and his roommates watching could feel blood pumping through their veins as they watched...

Lucas then quick scoped with his sniper, directly targeting the head of the enemy’s character that came of out the blinding smoke and the enemy wanted to support his team mate. It was another knock down.

The spectators could barely follow his screen. One enemy attempted to flank, Lucas immediately turned.

A single sniper shot and then another headshot!

The last man panicked after losing all three teammates. Realizing he was the last man standing, he immediately activated his class skill and rushed toward Lucas, hoping to force a close-range fight.

The spectators all held their breath. The streamer was practically screaming "Careful!"

She had every right to be scared for him because Lucas’s health had gone unbelievably low after facing those three enemies

However, Lucas remained unbelievably calm.

The moment the enemy fired, Lucas slid sideways, instantly breaking the opponent’s aim.

Before the enemy could adjust, Lucas chained a jump into a sharp movement cancel, circling around him at an absurd speed.

The enemy desperately tried to track him. But he couldn’t keep up.

Lucas had already appeared behind him. The spectators watching the killcam felt their scalps go numb.

"What the hell was that movement?!"

The enemy spun around frantically, firing in every direction. Unfortunately, he was already too late.

Lucas stepped forward.

BOOM!

The shotgun roared.

The final player was blasted out of the safe zone and instantly eliminated.

WINNER!

The victory banner exploded across the screen. For a brief moment, the entire voice chat went silent.

Then everyone erupted.

"HOLY SHIT!"

"THAT MOVEMENT IS ILLEGAL!"

"That clutch is insane!"

Even the female streamer couldn’t contain her excitement.

"No way!"

"No freaking way!"

"That was disgusting!"

Her viewers instantly flooded the chat, demanding that she invite Lucas for another game.

Even she couldn’t stop staring at the results screen.

As for Max, Ben, and Luke?

They looked at Lucas like they were seeing a monster.

After a long silence, Luke finally spoke.

"Bro..."

"The last time you seriously played was freshman year."

"How the hell are you still this good?"
