Chapter 146: Ch-146: Victor vs Kevin (1)
Amber paid no attention to the wary gazes thrown at her and walked back toward Victor and whispered in his ear, "How did I do, Master?"
She said it with a sultry look, and Victor raised an eyebrow and rolled his eyes.
"Your sadistic tendencies haven’t diminished one bit."
The onlookers were gnashing their teeth seeing how intimate they were acting.
The men were jealous of Victor for hogging the attention of such a beautiful woman—probably the most beautiful they had ever seen in their lives—while the women were jealous of Amber for her bloodline and power.
"Next: Contestant 41, Kevin, versus Contestant 99, Victor," the referee announced indifferently.
Kevin was the first to leap onto the stage.
A minute passed, and veins popped out on both the referee’s and Kevin’s foreheads as they watched Victor strolling toward the stage with a carefree and lazy expression, chatting and laughing with Amber beside him.
"This bastard..."
Kevin clenched his fists, thinking that this was yet another way of humiliating him in public.
Victor swaggered onto the stage and looked at Kevin.
"Tsk, tsk. Looks like you didn’t back away. Judging by the fearful looks you were giving while my girlfriend was pummeling Ethan, I thought you would back out."
"You..."
Kevin’s face flushed red as those words stabbed straight into his heart.
He let out a cold snort and said, "We’ll see if you can act so tough and smug after this fight."
"Let’s begin... at my signal," the referee said.
Kevin immediately assumed a combat stance, but Victor still stood there without even drawing his sword or any other weapon. He was yawning as though he were bored.
"Aren’t you going to draw your weapon? I don’t want to hear you crying later, saying you were at a disadvantage," Kevin said.
Victor remained motionless.
The referee also didn’t waste time waiting for Victor to draw a weapon; otherwise, he would lose for sure.
"Do I even need to draw a weapon for trash like you?" Victor said in a mocking tone, enraging Kevin even further.
Then he raised his hand, covered his eyes, and said, "Look, I’ll close my eyes and won’t even dodge your attack. I’ll let you attack me."
The referee, the audience, and even the judges looked at Victor in shock.
The disdain he was displaying was enough to make a saint lose his composure, and that’s exactly what happened.
"YOU BASTARD, YOU ARE COURTING DEATH!"
Kevin shouted in rage as he charged toward Victor with killing intent and directly targeted his arms, intending to cleave them off.
Even though he was furious, he did not dare kill Victor. He knew he could cripple his opponent and no one would take action against him, but if he committed murder in public, he would face serious consequences.
Clang!
"What!!!"
Kevin’s eyes constricted when he saw the next scene.
"Impossible!"
Even Headmaster Lance had lost his composure as he stared at the sword that had stopped upon striking Victor’s body. It seemed as though the sword had collided with military-grade steel.
The other judges and the referee’s eyes also bulged out as if they had seen a ghost.
"How is this possible? I refuse to believe this!"
Kevin’s heart pounded with fear and panic as sweat trickled down his forehead.
"Heh, come on, why don’t you strike my neck?" Victor said in a teasing tone as he offered his neck to him.
"Fuck!"
Kevin cursed as he activated his skill and struck at Victor’s neck, but to his horror, the sword in his hand instantly shattered into pieces.
The audience immediately erupted into an uproar.
"Holy shit, is his body made of diamond? How is that even possible?!"
"Yeah, how ridiculous are his Defense stats to achieve something this terrifying?"
"Indeed. I thought he would surely die since he was overestimating himself, but it seems I underestimated him."
"Heh, with just a Common-grade weapon and a low-rank skill, he wants to harm Master?"
Amber looked at Kevin with contempt.
She was the only one who knew how ridiculous Victor’s stats were. There was no way an attack like this could even leave a scratch on his body.
She remembered how shocked and speechless she had been when she learned of his stats, which were more exaggerated than those of most beasts.
Kevin jumped back, drew another sword, and was about to use a skill.
"Quick—! Hm?!"
He didn’t even finish activating the skill before feeling his body fly backward, rolling across the platform until he reached its edge.
"What was that?!"
The referee couldn’t believe what he had seen and looked at Victor with a stunned expression, as did everyone else.
"What insane speed!" the referee cried out in disbelief.
The examinees looked shocked, barely comprehending what had happened as Kevin crashed near the edge of the platform but somehow managed to remain on it.
"Come on, loser. You talked all that time just to do this?" Victor said in a mocking tone.
After all, he didn’t intend to knock Kevin out. He had merely given him a casual tap.
He wanted this duel to last much longer than that.
"Not yet...!"
Kevin’s voice rang out as he got back to his feet, filled with anger, and Victor simply looked at him, waiting for him to continue the fight.
Kevin charged again and again, but Victor effortlessly dodged every attack.
"Tsk, you’re too weak."
Victor clicked his tongue as he threw a punch at him.
"Shit!"
Kevin cursed as he quickly used his sword to block the punch.
The moment the sword and Victor’s fist collided, the sword shattered into pieces, and Kevin was sent flying backward. He managed to plant his feet into stage at the ncik of time and stop from falling of the stage.
"Hmm."
Just as Victor was about to end the fight and sever a few of his limbs, a dark light suddenly enveloped Kevin’s body which made him pause his movements and looked at Kevin with narrowed eyes.
