Chapter 2498: Chapter 204: Settling Accounts
That night, in Mrs. Wallace’s room on the third floor of the Wallace family home, a solemn and silent atmosphere prevailed.
Mrs. Wallace had called Bruce Wallace, Winona Wallace, and Sheila Fletcher up.
Once the three were present, a stern look flashed across Mrs. Wallace’s old and gloomy face.
"Bruce Wallace, you go over there—"
Mrs. Wallace sternly shouted, pointing with her cane to the shrine on the left side of the room’s entrance.
There, a black-and-white photo was placed, the memorial portrait of Mr. Wallace.
With exasperation, she said, "Kneel in front of your father, bow, and admit your mistake."
"Grandma, what right do you have to make Dad kneel? What did Dad do wrong?" Winona Wallace said discontentedly, feeling that Mrs. Wallace was becoming increasingly muddle-headed.
Sheila Fletcher also urged, "Yes, Mom, if there’s something wrong, please say it slowly and don’t get angry."
However, Bruce Wallace was aware in his heart; he silently walked to Mr. Wallace’s memorial portrait and kneeled down.
Mrs. Wallace glared at Winona Wallace with a stern face, "It’s only right for Bruce to kneel to his father, there’s no right or wrong about it. Winona Wallace, listen carefully, I am your grandmother and the elder of the Wallace family. From today on, you must mend your spoiled temperament and don’t take it into your future husband’s household.
As for you, Bruce Wallace, do you know why I asked you to kneel?"
"I know, Mom, I know it’s my fault." Bruce Wallace said in a heavy tone. From the moment he let Sheila Fletcher threaten the Reddington family, he had anticipated this outcome.
But for his daughter, he could only take a risk.
Fortunately, he had another plan: "But Mom, I hadn’t made up my mind to do it at the time. It was all Iris Yates, she proactively interpreted my intentions to please me and thus sought out Mrs. Lucas. After she did this, she came back to take credit with me. At that point, there was nothing I could do."
His backup plan was to put all the blame on Sheila Fletcher.
Anyway, Sheila Fletcher loved him; she was his wife, and she was willing to accept it.
And Mrs. Wallace, being his own mother, would naturally side with him and not defend Sheila Fletcher.
However, this time, Bruce Wallace’s otherwise flawless plan was wrong.
After listening to him, Mrs. Wallace slammed her cane heavily on the floor: "Rascal, at this point, you still want to muddle through? Don’t think I don’t know, Iris Yates is like a lamb in front of you, she wouldn’t dare do anything without your approval.
Bruce Wallace, let me tell you the truth. You’ve reached the end of your tenure as CEO of the Wallace Group. Starting tomorrow, the CEO position will temporarily be handed over to Iris Yates. When Xavier Wallace grows older in a couple of years, I will personally guide him in managing the family business as the Chairman. You’re on leave for now; no need to return to the company."
In the past, she might not have made such a bold decision.
But now, Bruce Wallace, for the sake of Winona Wallace, had made one foolish decision after another, and now directly offended both the Lucas family and the Reddington family.
Meanwhile, Xavier Wallace and Sheila Fletcher, because of Leslie Howard’s connection, only have a brighter future ahead.
Mrs. Wallace always had a clear understanding of what is more important.
"Mom, you... what did you say? I’m the only son of the Wallace family, and you’re actually going to sideline me!?" Bruce Wallace was shocked, almost unable to believe it.
The reason he took risks for Winona Wallace despite knowing the risks was all because of his unique status.
He was the only heir of the Wallace family, and even if he made a blunder, he shouldn’t be treated this way.
However, Bruce Wallace didn’t count on Mrs. Wallace being able to bypass him and directly hand over real power to Sheila Fletcher behind Xavier Wallace.
This meant that, starting tomorrow, he as a husband would be even less valued than his timid wife who had nothing but her looks!?
