Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Grieved Souls (4)

" Where am I?" It was during the day so there were people on the street. Seeing a man walking around confused in his sleepwear.

They naturally avoided him, he looked around in confusion and finally recognised the place.

" No no no." He walked towards the road, there was a spot covered in blood and skid marks from car tyres.

" No, not this place no." The people looked at him like he was crazy. Jonathan started running.

He reached a phone booth and tried to make a call but he had no coins. " Excuse me, excuse me, can I borrow your phone.

Can I borr..." The people avoided and ignored him. He started walking as fast as he could.

He reached the bank but found it was closed, he turned around and boom, the woman was standing there looking at him.

Jonatha screamed and ran even faster, everybody looked at him. At first their faces were nothing but confused.

Then slowly they changed, from confused expressions to blank expressions. Their eyes started melting.

Seeing this Jonathan peed his pants but he didn’t stop running. The people on the street drew closer to him.

Centimetre by centimetre they closed the distance. " NO STAY AWAY!" He shouted and closed his eyes.

His eyes started burning forcing him to open them. Unexpectedly the people around him had returned to normal.

They looked at him with even more confusion. The one who had been reaching out was a man in a suit.

" Sir, sir are you okay, do you need help?" The man asked. Jonathan finally noticed him and registered his words.

He nodded, " Please, can I borrow your phone, I need to make a phone call." The man nodded and gave him his cellphone.

Jonathan made a call and Nancy answered from the other end. " Jonathan oh my god where are you?

I’ve been worried sick, you just disappeared without saying anything. Are you at work, when are you coming back?"

Her questions came as a flood, " No, no I’m not at work, it’s hard to explain, please come get me.

I’m near Avenue street 46." He gave his location and hanged up. The man who had given him the phone smiled.

However his smile felt forced, wrong somehow like he was a doll. Jonathan found himself backing off to the wall.

Then he stopped himself, ’ What is wrong with you Jonathan, this man had just helped you.’

He stood up, thanked the man and started walking. Before long his car showed up with Nancy on the driver’s seat.

He got in and they drove back to his house. Jonathan noticed his eyes no longer hurt when he closed them.

’ Thank god.’ he figured this only happened when the ghost was around. To be fair he wasn’t even sure if there was Ghost.

Maybe it was just his own guilt eating through him, making him hallucinate and sleep walk. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

But that would be strange, why now? Jonathan was not a good person, he knew that.

Over the course of his career he had protected a lot of guilty people and harmed a lot of innocent people.

They got back, he changed, ate and spent the entire day with her. They went to sleep and the next morning.

The same thing happened, he woke on the exact same place forcing her the come fetch him again.

Even Nancy looked worried now, she told him to go see a doctor and just like the first day.

The doctor told him there was nothing wrong, he might just need to rest a little more.

He nodded and went back home, the day went by and night came. He went to bed with Nancy.

Sometime during the night he woke up, he walked to the bathroom and washed his face.

Ring ring, ring ring. A phone rang on his pocket? Jonathan got confused, he wasn’t wearing any pants.

He reached down and felt it, ’ I’m wearing pants? Since when?’ he pulled out his phone and answered.

" Hello, who’s this?" He asked impatiently, he didn’t like being called so late at night.

" Oh my God Jonathan, thank God you answered, I’ve been trying to reach you for the past three days."

" N..Nancy?" His voice came out as whisper, he started shaking and he wondered if this was a prank but her voice, this was real.

Before Nancy could reply the phone was cut off. Jonathan looked up and saw his reflection on the mirror.

What was reflected terrified him, bags under his eyes like he hadn’t slept, tears of blood rolled down his cheeks. His hair was unkept and covered in grime.

He was wearing the same clothes he had been wearing when all of this began. He looked down and saw blood.

His feet were bleeding and there was a trail of bloody footsteps behind him as if he had been walking for a very long distance.

He looked at his phone, the time was 11: 23, exactly one minute less than when this all began. He looked up at the mirror again.

On the reflection he saw Nancy but her face was different, covered in blood with long unkept hair and a creepy smile.

Her neck snapped to the side and her smile grew wider. Jonathan tried to scream but his voice didn’t come out.

He tried to move but it was as if his body was bound by unbreakable chains. The Nancy reached out.

He expected her to grab him from behind but her hand came out of the mirror. Her body followed.

She touched his face and their eyes met. Jonathan opened his mouth to scream but his voice didn’t come out.

Through her eyes he experienced her pain and the fear she felt when she died. The feeling of being hit by a speeding car rammed his entire body at once.

His bones snapped, his skin was ripped off on some parts of his body like he was dragged through tar.

The pain was overwhelming then he felt her rage, like an inferno that blazed in the pits of hell.

His own eyes started burning, they melted in front of him. He saw everything happening to him through her eyes.

His eyes started melting like wax. He wanted to scream but his voice couldn’t leave his throat.

He could only watch as he died slowly, he regretted everything but it was too late to change anything.

And just like that, Jonathan a famous and successful lawyer died.

-----------------------------------------

48 minutes after his death, two women entered his house. They followed the bloody footsteps to his bathroom.

" It seems we were late, the jump from one target to another is faster than I expected."

Annie touched Sanchez who was shivering, both from the cold and fear. She wondered if this was how her parents died.
