Chapter 218: Chapter 217:I... don’t know.

I just stood there, watching Malachi shame the demonic looking monkey with no limits.

Seeing how unhinged the monkey was, I didn’t need to be told that there was history between them, and it must’ve been quite bad, for the usually jovial monkey to go this hard on someone..

"MALACHIIIIIII!!!!!!!"

The demonic looking ape roared, about to rush at us, when a clawed hand stopped him..

"Wait, Rothar!" The demon spoke up.

"Brother bale, don’t stop me! Let me rip that filthy stoneborn’s head off!"

"In due time, but first." The demon turned towards me, eyes squinting.

"Are you by chance, Dante Draven?" The demon asked.

"Oh? And how does filth like you know me?"

"You killed my brother and his friends during your excursion to the land of the damned."

"I’ve killed a few demons lately, you all look the same to me, I don’t think I recall your filthy kin."

"I do not care for your remorse, I merely care for your life."

"In case you couldn’t tell, goat brain, I wasn’t remorseful, and you needn’t care for my life either, because yours will soon be forfeit." I replied plainly, voice devoid of any emotion.

The only reason I had yet to make a move was because I was waiting for Malachi, but the monkey’s next words shattered the atmosphere like stone through glass..

"You know his butt is red?"

"What?" I couldn’t even begin to understand where such a random statement came from..

"Uncle said his mum’s cheeks were tomatoe red, so the bastard might’ve inherited it too."

"And have you confirmed such a thing yet?" I was suddenly curious, images of those red bottomed baboons flashing through my head, my murderous intent, momentarily forgotten..

"I haven’t, but don’t you think this is a good enough time as any to try?"..

"I WILL KILL BOTH OF YOU!!!!!!"

SWOOOOSHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

A darkened claw strike passed through the place we once stood as both Malachi and I moved back..

"DIIIIEEEEEE!!!!!!!"

WOOOOOSHHHHHHH!!!!!!

The silhouette of a massive black staff came plummeting from the sky, threatening to flatten us..

"He has a staff too?" I asked, brow raised..

"It comes as part of the bloodline." Malachi grinned, his own staff appearing within his grasp..

"Then what the hell are hunting another staff for??"

"What else?" He hefted it up,

ORYYYYYYAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

"If not to make ours better!!!"

CLANGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!

The sound of metal colliding against metal rang out as both weapons clashed, both mine and the demon’s figures not moving an inch as we watched the fight unfold.

Boooom!!!!!

Clang!!!!!

ORYAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

The terrain shifted as both figures collided continuously, massive craters opening up as gigantic staff strikes beat the earth into play dough...

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHA... come, you poser bastard, let me bash those ugly horns in!!"

"DIEEEEEEE!!!!!!" Malachi’s laughter rang out, followed swiftly by the angry voice of the demonic ape..

"That monkey is quite strong."

Leo’s comment drew my attention.

"Huh? Why’s that?"

"Well, he’s putting up with a transformation stage Demon hybrid, that’s already doing a lot"

"You don’t mean?"

"Indeed, that ape is the source of the mixed energy, which means your friend probably doesn’t stand much of a chance if the monkey gets serious."

"He’s not serious?"

"Oh Dante... please.."

Before I could ask for more,

"Ahhhhhhh!!!!!"

BOOOOM!!!!!

A body came flying right passed me, crashing into a distant mountain.

I rushed over, there, embedded deep into the face of the mountain, was Malachi’s figure, his right arm had been torn clean off...

"Aha.. ahahaha... hahahahahahah... what a ride, the little monkey thought he could finally contend with me?" A smug, derisive voice came from behind us, as I pulled Malachi out of the mountain face...

I turned around, attention focusing on the figures of the ape and the goat.

The rage and anger on the face of the ape had vanished, replaced by a playful grin, "what? You really thought your words had any effect?" The monkey grinned.

"Look at me? I’m the peak of what monkey evolution could ever hope to achieve." He stretched out his left hand, a dark corrupted flame manifesting in his open palm.

Stretching out his right, a bright green flame manifested on it..

"Demonic energy and Primal energy, both at my fingertips, and you thought your name calling was going to get to me? You, little Malachi, are nothing before I, Rothar Darkclaw, and it’s time I make you understand that." The monkey grinned sinisterly, the demon by his side still standing silent, eyes locked onto my figure..

Cough... cough.. Malachi coughed up a mouthful of blood as he struggled to stand, the halo of light I’d come to recognize as some recovery method flashed, before his arm finally grew back, the process being agonizingly slow due to the corrupting nature of demonic energy..

"Heh. You sound like you’ve won.. cough.. you bastard.." Malachi grinned, a bloody, sharp, toothy expression on his face..

"Oho? Do you by chance have anything else you wish to show me before I rip your head off?" The demonic ape sneered..

"Heh. Of course there’s plenty, but why should I bother myself, when there’s someone here just eager to tear you apart?" The shameless monkey just grinned as he walked behind me, placing me squarely in the crosshairs of both figures..

It clicked immediately.

If this monkey already knew who was releasing that energy, then that meant he’d already faced the guy before, so he knew perfectly well how much of a fight he could put up.

"You monkey bastard! You planned this didn’t you?" I’d been played, played hard.

"Hehehe.. don’t say it like that, you’ll make me sound like a bad person." The monkey grinned shamelessly, "just take it as me handing you a rare specie of demon to vent on, might make you less edgy."

"Fuck you."

"Ahhh... a human, to think you would hide behind a mere human." The demonic looking ape chuckled, "no matter, once I’m done with this human scum, I’ll deal with you." The ape sneered.

I merely stood, watching, as the atmosphere twisted at the aura he was releasing, she wasn’t hurting, but she didn’t like the ape, so, "first of all, let’s stop doing that." The moment the words left my lips, the atmosphere around the ape disappeared, he ended up in a soundless, windless, space..

"What.. is this??" The monkey looked confused, just as the goat headed demon seemed to turn grim..

"Alright monkey, I only have one question." I paused, letting the moment settle..

"Are your butt cheeks really red?"

...

...

Silence!

A cold, deafening silence was what greeted my question..

"Really? Still on that one?"

"What? I’m curious, I want to see."

"For what?"

"Research purposes."

"You dare to make jest of me, human?" The monkey growled, whilst Malachi laughed hysterically...

"I don’t make jests, I’m just asking a simple question."

"You shall die for that."

"Look, all you guys love throwing out that word, yet I’m still here, so yea, there’s that." I paused, letting the moment hang..

Another wave of silence settled on the place before my voice broke it up once more..

"So, what? Is it red or not?" I urged..

"Human! I shall slay and feast on all seven of your generations to come!!"

"Look buddy, I know you’re angry, I get it, but we can either do this the easy way, or the hard way." I gave out my ultimatum, only for the monkey and goat headed demon to sneer derisively.

"Oh? And what might those two options be?"

"The easy way is, you show me your red butt, I laugh, and give you an easy death."

The ape’s expression fell.

"The hard way and my personal favorite? You resist, I beat you up, embarrass you, check out your red butt, then still kill you, only painfully slowly this time."

"So pick your poison."

"You’re starting to sound really weird with your sudden interest in this monkey’s butt."

I ignored the chicken-cat, attention centered on the now furious monkey...

"HUMAN!!!!!!! DIEEEEEE!!!!" The monkey lunged towards me, claws extended.

I swerved, dodging the attack with little effort, yet before I could strike, the world shifted.

Lines.

The world disappeared.

And.

The lines reappeared.

Structural maps, points in existence where things converged and collapsed.

And the moment my eyes landed on the monkey’s slow moving figure, I saw them.

Spread all over his body, like a living circuitry of energy, lines connecting to EVERYTHING, and at the center, a massive network that acted as the hub of it all.

I was spurred, instincts kicking in as I gathered energy at my fingertip, pressing it gently on that energy bubble at the center of it all.

My energy tank dropped sharply, but I was too stunned by what happened next to care about that.

Because the moment I made contact with that central circuit, the lines vanished and the world reappeared, my eyes widened in increasing disbelief at the sight before me..

The demonic ape, a hybrid of monkey and demon bloodlines, was unraveling.

Not dying.

Unraveling.

Like his entire existential structure was collapsing from within.

His skin disintegrated into motes of ashen light, his flesh following soon after, then his muscles and bones, like someone had tugged the string of a yarn, his entire being unraveled entirely until, with not even a scream, his form collapsed, leaving nothing but empty air and a silence so loud it was deafening..

....

...

"Dan...Dante."

"What.. what was that?"

"I.. don’t know."

I looked down, at my hands, utterly shaken.

"I... don’t know."
