Chapter 216: Chapter 216: Don’t Know, or Dare Not Admit?
Tina Wallace—no, she should be called Seraphina Sutton. Seraphina Sutton’s heart skipped a beat. She gave a guilty tug at the corner of her lips and forced a laugh.
"Wren, what are you talking about? Who is Seraphina Sutton? A friend of yours?"
Seeing Seraphina was still playing dumb, Wren’s lips curled, a hint of mockery and coldness in their curve.
"Is it that you don’t know her, or you just don’t dare to admit it?"
Seraphina was so nervous it felt like her heart would leap out of her chest at any second. She subconsciously swallowed, her hands clenched into tight fists.
"Wren, I really don’t understand what you’re saying. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back now."
Seraphina stood up to leave, but Wren narrowed her eyes and immediately grabbed her, speaking with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
"No rush."
Wren didn’t actually have any direct evidence that Tina Wallace was Seraphina Sutton. It was all based on her intuition.
But she believed that one day, she would find a crack in the facade.
Finn Wynter walked over. His powerful aura terrified Seraphina, draining the color from her face and making her body tremble uncontrollably. Unlike Kaden Xavier, his hostility toward Seraphina was absolute.
"Wren, what are you planning to do with her?"
Wren glanced at the fear-stricken Seraphina, her expression calm and her voice detached. "Clarify those posts online. Otherwise, I’ll expose the fact that you bailed out Seraphina Sutton. Since you love cyberbullying so much, I’ll let you have a taste of your own medicine."
Seraphina’s eyes widened. She struggled to maintain her composure, still trying to play innocent. "Wren, I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"You don’t know, is that it?" Wren took out her phone and played the surveillance footage Shaun Quinn had sent her. "Then does this look familiar?"
The surveillance footage clearly showed Tina Wallace’s face. ’This is bad,’ Seraphina thought. Now that she was wearing this face, the consequences for everything Tina Wallace had done before would all fall on her.
She dropped the act. To protect her reputation and the Wallace Family, she had no choice but to kneel, grabbing Wren’s clothes and begging bitterly.
"Wren, I was wrong! I was just possessed at the time. I... I just didn’t want you and Brother Kaden to be together! It’s all my fault. Please, just forgive me this once, okay?"
Seraphina never expected Wren to have this kind of leverage over her, much less that she would already be suspicious of her identity.
Now, her only choice was to misdirect them so they wouldn’t discover she was Seraphina Sutton.
"Do as I say. Clarify the facts."
"Okay, I promise. I’ll have them clarify it right now."
Seraphina frantically pulled out her phone and made a call. "Take all the posts down and put up a clarification post! Hurry up!"
The person on the other end seemed to curse before abruptly hanging up.
Within five minutes, all the posts online had been deleted, and burner accounts began to speak up for Wren and clarify the situation.
[I’ve interacted with this doctor before. She’s a really good person, not the type to have a messy private life. She’s amazing.]
[That’s right, my old man’s illness was treated by this doctor. Now he’s full of life, healthier than ever.]
[I’m an employee at Xavier Group, and I can testify that Miss Wynter and Mr. Xavier have always maintained a professional distance. They’ve never crossed any lines, and their relationship is definitely not the kind of illicit affair the rumors make it out to be.]
In an instant, the tide of public opinion turned in Wren’s favor. Those familiar online IDs, like reeds swaying in the wind, all started praising her.
[I’m sorry, Dr. Wynter. It was my fault. I shouldn’t have bad-mouthed you. I repent.]
[I knew it! How could someone so beautiful have a bad heart? Forgive me for what I said. I was actually on your side the whole time, but I caved to the pressure of public opinion.]
Seraphina crawled over and grabbed Wren’s leg, speaking in an aggrieved and innocent tone. "Wren, I’ve already clarified everything. You can forgive me now, right? Please delete the video, okay?"
She wasn’t stupid. She would never leave such crucial leverage in Wren’s hands. The moment Wren deleted the video, she would immediately find someone else to spread different information.
Wren looked down coldly at the top of Seraphina’s head. She knew Seraphina wouldn’t let this go so easily. With a cold laugh, she deleted the video right in front of her.
"Wren, I really do see you as a good friend. Please believe me, okay?"
Seraphina was trying to play the friendship card, but Wren just shook her head, pulled her hand away, and turned to leave.
As Wren left, Finn Wynter also shot Tina Wallace a cold glance.
The Wallace Family had some standing in The Capital. Holding one of them captive indefinitely would surely cause a huge scene, so they had no choice but to let her go.
Tina Wallace felt the iciness in Wren’s eyes and couldn’t help but shiver, subconsciously shrinking back.
"Brother Kaden, believe me, I really didn’t have any malicious intent. I truly want to be friends with Wren."
Kaden Xavier stared down at Seraphina, coldly shaking off her hand. The disgust in his eyes was a sharp sting to Seraphina’s heart.
’That look again. Just how much does he hate me?’
Seraphina secretly clenched her fists, a sense of resentment welling up in her chest. She suppressed her jealousy and forced a smile.
"I know I did something wrong, so it’s normal that you won’t forgive me. Blame me for wanting to be friends with Wren too badly. Don’t worry, I won’t bother any of you again."
Normally, hearing such words would have made Wren and the others feel a sense of pity and guilt. Unfortunately for her, their expressions remained completely unmoved.
Wren sneered internally. ’Trying to guilt-trip us? Seraphina’s tactics are as despicable and crude as ever.’
Seeing that none of them were speaking, Seraphina’s face paled. She bit her lip and looked at Kaden Xavier with a pitiful expression, ready to play the victim.
Finn Wynter had seen enough. With a wave of his hand, he summoned his subordinates.
"Throw her out."
"Yes, sir."
A few subordinates immediately flanked Seraphina, grabbing her by the arms and hauling her outside.
"Let me go! How can you do this to me?! Brother Kaden! Wren, save me!"
The sound of Seraphina’s struggles reached the ears of the three who remained. An undisguised look of disgust and contempt appeared on Finn Wynter’s face. He glanced disdainfully at Kaden Xavier, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
"Utterly blind!"
Although he hadn’t named anyone, Kaden Xavier knew Finn Wynter was targeting him. His expression darkened, but he couldn’t bring himself to retort.
It was true. He had mistaken a fish eye for a pearl, and he owed Wren.
But back then, his hands had been tied. His best friend had left behind only this one bloodline, and he had to protect her.
"Let’s go back."
Finn Wynter put an arm around Wren’s shoulder and turned to leave.
Kaden Xavier hurriedly grabbed Wren’s wrist. "There are countless eyes watching her in the shadows right now. If you two walk out like this, it will affect her."
Kaden Xavier couldn’t be blamed for stopping them. Because of the recent scandal, many people were watching the former Mrs. Xavier.
